A blood letting

Some may remember that I went back to work at my old job in January. That is why I am green with envy at the gals in Alaska since I should have been one of them. Well the search for a new CEO was successful. We hired a very qualified woman!! She just finished her 60 day assessment of the company and all of us. Let the massacre begin. The heads are rolling this week. So far four down and we only had 14 people here! One of the terminations was my former boss. I was so sad today. I cried knowing he is leaving. He is young enough to be my son but we developed a very close relationship when he first joined the company and he was the one who convinced me to come back.

Those of us left are doubling up on work load wearing several hats. i know she has plans to hire fairly quickly..some of her former cronies. Hurry. Hurry. I've been working such long days.

Anyway, I haven't posted much but I do lurk often keeping tabs on everyone. I've been in NY on my sister's property but will probably head back to FL very soon. My ex is having some problems and needs some help.

May have decision making soon. If they are keeping me, I may have to move to Charlotte NC. Just not sure about settling down so soon. So maybe next year, if there are still adventurers wanting to head to Alaska.......

I worked for 2 large companies that changed hands. The new management could care less about the employees. The ones that kept the business going while they got their s*%t together to move the office to Houston were told they were doing us a favor. If they give you too much trouble tell them to kiss it and that you have better things to do.

I don't know why new managers tend to be dismissive of those who have worked hard and well before their arrival. I remember when new managers -- and their cronies -- took over our little community all-news NPR radio affiliate. Then, right in front of me, they made fun of the work that we did -- like we were a bunch of rubes. What the newbies didn't notice was that I was kept on because the listener surveys consistently gave me high marks.

They changed the direction of the station's news coverage and the most loyal listeners started looking and donating elsewhere.

I guess the positive is that if you needed to you could say....Hey, I tried to retire once and I think will this time. It is hard to watch the effect on younger, talented folks that don't really deserve to be shown the door. Hope that who ever is left after the blood letting still has the heart and motivation to show up and produce a quality effort.

Good work teams with heart are difficult to build and nurture.

Hang in there, Joan! You are one very busy woman, tackling many things at once. We have been wondering where you were and what you were doing. I do hope to meet up with you in FL if you will be down there this coming winter. I hope to get out and about more to explore more state campgrounds down there.

Hang in there....it isn't much fun, but it either settles down to a bearable environment or not! Maybe retirement is calling your name!!! But try not to stress too much. Life is too short.

Don't I remember that you really went back as a favor to the company? It will be wise no doubt to let them give you the pink slip. I guess you could ask for it. I also hope things soon slow down abit for you are wearing too many hats. You remain close to your ex and it speaks volumes of you that you will be there for him.
