That circle of Lake Superior sounds intriguing! Are the equally unique circles of the other Great Lakes?

I want to see the southwest! Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, back to NC, Mount Rushmore, and everywhere in between. It seems that every day somewhere new crops up that I wonder about. Just do not want to see snow except from a distance.

Just HAD to add my nickel's worth to THIS post.

I think my list coincides most w/ the Extxlady... wow! I'd sure like to be an EX texan! that is to say,,, at least half of the year or more!

It's coming up on 5 yrs that i've been w/ mama and daddy now...this December. Now that I have Roy w/ me to help shoulder the load,,, that helps a bunch! He was an unexpected blessing. I thought i'd be going this alone but I was wrong!

Now 2 dogs and a husband are in the mix! One never knows does one?

Glad the girls are enjoying Alaska, as am I, just reading their posts and looking @ their lovely pics!

I know the rest of ya'll are in agreement on that!

love those bucket lists! I do wanna try to do all the natl parks and monuments..Just hope the body holds out ,, mine and Roy's.

love yall!

I spent a week by car in the northeast one fall and loved it. Truly beautiful everywhere. Am spending my summer in the mountains of northwest GA and will hike a lot of the trails there. Am thinking about taking 6 weeks this fall and driving from GA to my niece's wedding in Maine Have not made that drive up the east coast. Am working on getting out west and hope to spend next winter in Texas or near my brother in Arizona. One thing on my bucket list is to stand at the four corners marker. Having taught US history for so many years there are lots of places I would like to see. I really don't have a llist I seek out, but whenever I find myself somewhere I try to find out what's around and go see interesting things. Found myself in Louisville for Memorial Day and went to services at Zachory Taylor National Cemetery. Serendipity is my guide.

You can circle the other Great Lakes, but they are more built-up. Lake Superior is still pretty undeveloped on all shores and has lots of empty beaches to wander. Don't expect to go in for a swim, however, no matter how hot it may be in the summer. Lake Superior is extremely cold--to the point where they say the only reason for wearing a life jacket on a boat is so that they can retrieve your body.

On the north shore in Canada, especially, every few miles you will find a river full of rapids and low waterfalls that dumps into the lake. When we did that trip 30 years ago, we stopped at a lot of them and walked upstream across the rocks--very pretty and fresh. Not too many towns, so stock up on food before you go. Need to spend at least 3 weeks or so, with maybe a stop at Mackinac Island slightly south, where you go "back in time."

Neat towns are Duluth, Thunder Bay, Nipigon, Grand Marais, Munising, Marquette, Whitefish Bay, and Sault St Marie. Here is a brochure: http://www.northofsuperior.org/lakesupe ... etour2012/

And a good site for information that is less commercial: http://www.great-lakes.net/tourism/circletour/superior/

My mom and I spent a lot of time on the west side of Lake Superior from Duluth up to the Canadian border. Yes, lots of beautiful rivers and waterfalls along there! Grand Marais was one of our favorite little towns. The beaches are fun to look for agates, driftwood, etc.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
