Hopping on in to wish all my friends a very very Happy Easter. Another beautiful day here in central Alabama. I have once again dropped unseuccessful hints at having holiday celebrations at someone else's house, so off to drink coffee, get shoer, and start making sausage cassseroles. It is looking like this Easter might bring in a few showers here in NC AR. I work with Wee Church on Sundays...am looking forward to seeing the beautiful pastel finery on all my little 'wobblers'.

Wendy, learned a long time ago that hints DON'T work. I think maybe it's because they all turn a deaf ear to the hints as they don't want the hassle of hosting whatever event that is going on.

You need to simply and point blank announce that someone else will have to step up and do it as next year you will NOT be hosting *?event?*. For sure it will probably cause some grumbles but, oh well. If no one else is willing then that will tell you that it's not important enough to them. If no one else is willing??? Therefore no one else wants it's? Then don't have it...... Don't be forced or guilt tripped into hosting it again.

My mother-in-law back out of hosting duties gracefully also. We compromised because we still wanted to come to her house (this was a Christmas eve meal) but convinced her that we liked paper plates and cups and would carry in/potluck all the food except whatever she still wanted to contribute. It worked of us. Though I think that Echo's recommendation would also work...something as "I'll bring the *-----* but you had better tell me where to bring it because it isn't going to be here!

Love the children. Not being a cook....and both my kids having found far flung cities to settle in...I don't seem to have that problem. I do get to go to restaurants when I go see them.

Happy Easter, everyone.

I remember wanting to do a holiday and having a family member say no. Did they think I'd poison them? But when I was married and my ex and I offered to do a non-traditional Christmas Eve dinner with lasagne and lobster tail - guess what - every one of my family members decided my house would be great for the holiday. And they all knew they'd be having turkey (like we would) somewhere on Christmas Day. I agree, though - that you should have to have the meal - or let your house be used, but they bring everything, like Tina suggested, or simply say, ok, whose turn is it next year? Like Echo says, hints aren't enough.

Thanks everyone. It's really no trouble hosting family events, paper plates and easy dishes. Just nice to have a change of scenery and start new traditions!
