I need to upgrade my camera. I have a Nikon point and shoot that is pretty good, but I would like a better camera. Does anyone have an Olympus Stylus Traveller SP-100EE? comments? Does anyone have recommendations? I need help! I will be in Fairbanks tomorrow and will be able to find a camera store.

Judi, that looks like a great little camera. I've used Olympus point-and-shoot cameras for years and have really appreciated their reliability and ruggedness. Took one on my 8-day trip down the Grand Canyon and it performed flawlessly. The one you're looking at looks like it's got some nice features. As long as you don't mind a larger camera, I'd say you'll probably be pleased with it.

Judi, 2 years ago and this year, LeRoy went to a great camera store in Fairbanks. I think it was the Alaskan Photographic Repair. I'll send him and e-mail but don't know when he'll get it. The girl was very helpful both times.

Judi, I'm looking for one too. But this time I think I am going to go for a DSLR. I've used SLR cameras for years before I went to a point and shoot, but there are time's when I wish I had had a longer zoom range. Looking at the Nikons right now. If you go to the camera store in Fairbanks, they can help you pick on out as they are knowledgeable on the various kinds.

Anybody out there have a Nikon D3200?

I bought a Canon SX280HS in January and just love it. 20X zoom.

Several folks have the Canon SX40 HS, Liz, Diana (mtngal) and I. It has a 35X zoom. The newer model is a SX50 HS and has a 50X zoom. Great camera and the digital zoom on it really goes out and catches the tiny things on the far mountain. It is pretty rugged as I have dropped mine a lot. Liz takes her's in the kayoe for those great shots. The SX50 is running about $400 at WalMart and on Amazon. I haven't priced it anywhere else.

Nice camera, Judi. Looks comparable to the Canon 50.

Looks like a good camera, Judi, and comparable to the Canon SX 50. Here's a review I found:

Anita, I think I will go there tomorrow. Thank you everyone for the suggestions! There are so many cameras available so this helps me narrow down my choices.

After searching in vain around Fairbanks for a Canon SX 50, which is actually just a few stores, I gave up and did more research. Then I returned to the Fast Foto place - they have been very helpful and didn't try to push me into buying anything. I had two choices; wait until I got to a bigger city to find that camera or the Olympus, or get a different camera. Since I am in Alaska NOW, I didn't want to wait, so I asked for help. So glad I did! I bought an Olympus E-PL5, and also an additional lens, an Olympus PEN 40-150mm. I'm spending the day reading the manual and figuring everything out. One reason I chose this camera - you can tap the viewing screen and it will auto focus and take the photo. I very happy with my choice, and now I can play with it! Oh, and I got an ORANGE!!! camera bag. Can't misplace it or leave it on a rock somewhere...the cushioning insides of the bag can be removed and put in a backpack for hiking.
Thank you all for your suggestions and help!
