Hi- I found out about this site from a friend of a friend. She was Rving a lot of last year and created a blog to share her travels and pix. It got me thru the last few months before retirement..
My partner Jim and I live in the high desert outside Santa Fe, NM. We are hoping to spend a great deal of the rest of our lives on the road..but first he's having back surgery in Dec and there will be a recovery period... so.... i was hoping to use the time to plan out some trips for the spring.. He is a civil war buff and i love textiles (quilting and weaving) . Neither one of us prefers to stay on the interstates--we stick to secondary roads as much as possible and forrest roads are even better. We have a cab over truck camper that Jim has customized with solar gizmos... Would like to go thru the south in the spring--perhaps the Blue Ridge Highway and up to NE to visit my dau in VT . Jim says everything its
too developed (for him) in the East so if any of you have information to the contrary that would be great!!!! I want to thank the people who came up with this idea for the site and for the people that maintain it..

Hi Lennie. Glad to have you with us.

I'm pretty confident that you're husband will like the blue ridge parkway. And there are lots of back roads and open space in the ne. Upstate NY, most of New Hampshire and Vermont. Look and you shall find. Those are the places and areas I usually prefer also.

Welcome! I have not traveled extensively in the NE, but I was surprised at the amount of 'wide open space' in several areas. Lovely country to be seen.

.
Don't forget there's some sort of Quilting Museum in Paducah KY...
And TN has Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett.
Google "Pride of Tennessee" and see all the famous men and women who hail from here.

And a BIG, OL' FORUM WELCOME to you!! We'll look forward to hearing about your adventures.

Welcome to the forum. If he is a Civil War buff he will have to suck it up to come toe the East eventually. Prices of some parks are a little higher but there are still state parks and national forests to be found and of course tons of Civil War history down every country road. Enjoy doing your research and dreaming your dreams. We look forward to getting to know you and meeting down one of those country road in the future....

Welcome to the forum, Lennie. This is a great place to begin your dreams and planning. Ask questions anytime. And when you do get on the road, we will expect pictures.

I grew up in VT, and still visit New England every year or two. My favorite route for getting there from FL is the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Skyline drive. Love the slower pace, lack of traffic, history, hiking trails and low-cost NP campgrounds. From there I like to go north through west-central PA and NY, then taking the Saint Lawrence Seaway route to enter VT at Lake Champlain near the Canadian border. That avoids all the congestion of the big cities from Washington DC, Philly, NYC, etc. I too like to drive the scenic routes and you will find many in VT, NH, and ME.

Welcome, Lennie, from the Inland Northwest - closer to Idaho than Seattle. You just listen all you want. If/when you're comfortable sharing, let us know as you start planning your spring adventures. Watch for those Get Togethers (GTGs) along the way, both planned and spontaneous. Men even get to go too occasionally.

WELCOME, LENNIE AND HUBBY!

Liz has the best route all planned out for you for exploring the east coast! I have to agree with her choices whole-heartedly. I live not far from the Lake Champlain ferry crossing (or bridge, if you prefer) up near the Canadian border in NY State. There is some beautiful country up there, and on the way if you choose the Blue ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive routes as well.

Hope to meet you somewhere up there next summer, if you get anywhere near where I live! I have tons of space for parkign RVs on my property----400 acres in the heart of the Adirondacks.
