Hi Ladies! I was directed to your site by a friend and poked around a bit earlier today to see what it was like. I've been RVing almost 3 years now with my partner. We started RVing because some of our friends are in the RVW group. We had such a good time at one of their rallies that we went right out and bought a used popup and used Ford Explorer. That got us through the remainder of that season. The following summer we decided to go on an extended trip to Edmonton, Alberta to see the Edmonton Mall. We found out that having to schlepp stuff between the popup and the Explorer so we could set up and break down was a lot of work! The day after we got home from that trip, we traded the popup for a 25 foot travel trailer and we got a used F-150 - much nicer. :D

We took one long trip last year to Utah (from Oregon) to see the National Parks. That went quite well with the exception of hitting a cow at night in open range on the way back from the north rim of the Grand Canyon. Luckily we weren't towing and no one was hurt - not even the cow - at least not badly. The truck suffered some damage but we were able to wait until we got home to fix it except for the left headlight.

Our next long range adventure will probably be this September to Glacier and Yellowstone Parks. I've been trying to calculate costs to take the rig vs drive (Civic hybrid). It will be more to take the rig, but I think the advantage of not having to pack and unpack the car and having a safe place to leave our dogs during side day trips makes the rig a distinct advantage. We're hoping to find a couple of places to boon-dock overnight on the going and coming to save a few dollars. We'll see how that works out.

Anyway, I'm glad to have found you all and hope to make some new online friends here.

Hi and welcome. Love your trip plans. I too am planning a long fall trip and trying to calculate costs. Boondocking is definitely doable and helps a lot to cut down on costs. Plus, you can pull out of a Flying J at 4 in the morning to avoid city traffic and no one cares about how noisy you are leaving.

Welcome to the forum. I think its always cheaper to take an RV on a trip when you count the motels and meals it adds up pretty fast and being able to have a place to leave the dogs when sightseeing is a big deal. I used to stay overnight at rest stops to save on campground fees if all I wanted was to sleep. And of course, there is always walmart or other big shopping centers.

Thanks Ladies! Say - how do you post the extra photos? It took me quite a few tries to get an acceptable one for my avatar. There doesn't seem to be much help for that sort of thing or I'm just not seeing where it is.

Welcome to the forum, June and partner. We always welcome a new member to share adventures. Not only do we entertain each other, we learn too. Many of us are making decisions about selling our homes and what RV do we think fits our lifestyle. Listening to each other is invaluable. We also have a group of ladies in Alaska and following along through their blogs is so exciting. You joined at a good time...hope to see you out there. By the way I'm in Arkansas.

Welcome to the group from another Oregonian. I live in Salem.

We're having a gtg (get together) at the end of September at the Valley of the Rogue State Park near Grants Pass. I'm not sure when in September you're planning on going to Glacier/Yellowstone, but we'd love to have you and your partner join us! The gtg dates are September 27 thru October 2. Please check out the "get together room" for more info.

We had a gtg at Bullards Beach State Park last August and had a blast!

Welcome!

I, too, hope if you can work it around your trip, that you might be able to make the gtg. It's so good to meet our fellow sisters.

You should be able to find lots of places to boondock going to/from those national parks. Depending on the routes you take, I boondocked heading north to Glacier NP this spring and some of the other ladies on their trip to Alaska found some really neat places to camp - free with electric at some of them. Again, they were heading to Glacier - so when you know your route, we might be able to help you there. Then again, we were all more heading north, but you never know!

Hope to meet you - maybe in just a few months - down the road.
