Let me introduce myself

I'm Sandie from Tennessee, a widow of 18 years. And just recently decided to get back into the camping business. I haven't done any camping since my husband passed.. Now its me and the dog.(Dudley Odell Barker) I have a 29 ft. Savoy travel trailer with 1 slide.. Its a lot of weight for my 1/2 ton truck but for local trips it will have to do for now.. I have a transmission cooler on it and it has the factory tow package so I'm hoping everything will hold up for a while.. I've only had it out once . I was a little nervous at first but settled in quite nicely.. I camped in a pull through site because I'm still nervous about my backing skills.. But I hope to master that real soon.. I had a blow out about 15 miles from home and Oh.yea. forgot to mention everything in the cabinets fell into the floor So I spent a lot of time cleaning up the mess of a broken jar of spaghetti sauce and lots of dented cans.... Live and learn... I will be replacing the door latches with something stronger....Even after a few little sit backs.. I didn't get discouraged.. I look forward to meeting some of you on the road real soon.... :D

Welcome, Sandie! I'm smiling about your sauce mess (and I'm sure lots more). I've only had one door open on me - it's never repeated which makes me think maybe I didn't latch it completely? But I can tell you - unbreakable corelle - does break :) I've also had one blow-out and hope that will be my one and only - bet you agree on that.

Glad to have you with us. And will hope you continue sharing the ups and downs with us - we will share right back.

Welcome Sandie, I'm from AR but now in Nashville. There is a small gtg in Crossville beginning today. It's at Deer Run (go to the Get Together thread for the link)
I topped you on the mess of spaghetti sauce. I opened my refridg and a big bowl of beef stew comes out upside down of course and on carpet. I cleaned for half an hour and shampooed when I got home...what a mess! and it was such good beef stew!
You have my respect, getting out there pulling your rv. I have a 24' motor home and I've been thinking of going larger and that would mean a toad too. If I didn't have a gps I wouldn't even consider it.

Welcome, Sandie. Yes, a 29' is pretty long for a 150. Make sure you aren't exceeding the gross weight carrying capacity for the truck as well as the towing capacity.

And good luck to you. Fortunately, I haven't had the broken jars coming out of the pantry, but I do occasionally forget to secure something sitting on the counter - oops.

Never alone

Oh how great to see responses to my post its good to never be alone even when on the road... Until I get a little more used to traveling alone I hope to find Campgrounds with WiFi so I can keep in touch with friends and do some blogging while enjoying my "Me" time... I've packed plenty of down time activities... Books, movies, crochet (which I haven't done in years) and to answer the question about exceeding the gross weight limit...I;m pretty sure I'm within the limits I haven't actually went to a scale and weighed but this is considered a light weight camper and rated for a 1/2 ton pick up... I do have weight distributing hitch sway bars and equalizer and that helps too. I am so rusty when it comes to backing up a trailer I am going to need lots of practice on that one.. I have done it before and it fell into place like it was supposed to but I'm thinking that was beginners luck for sure..LOL :D About me.. I'm 62 live in East Tennessee Single and Retired....My passion is riding my motorcycle a 2004 1100 cc cruiser Honda Saber....and of course my grandchildren... whom I sometimes take with me camping...

A Big, Ol' Forum Welcome to you, Sandie!

I had to smile at your broken jars. My fridge opened once - eggs and milk everywhere! UGH. Now I NEVER forget to add those tension bars!!

We'll look forward to following along on your adventures...that'd be great if you could join up with the ladies in Crossville! It's bound to be a wonderful GTG.

PS: I'm in NW Tennessee, near Paris.

Welcome. I am from Florida and know what you feel about cleaning up a dump mess. Mine was a canister of coffee. I have a motorhome, the door came open and that container roller out spilling coffee. I could smell it, but couldn't stop and do anything. When I did get stopped, I cleaned it up, did have enough coffee left for the next morning. Had to make a grocery shopping trip. Get out in a big parking lot and practice your backing skills. set up cones and practice. You will get the hang of it. Keep your eye on those gatherings and head over to visit when you can.

I know you asked Tina, but I'm the pushy sort (and I'm just sitting here waiting for my pal to get ready so we can go buy her an iPad)...

The Forum Member Map detail post is pinned to the top under General Topics.

WooHoo!! Another biker chiky! Welcome Sandie! I have a 2005 Harley Electraglide aka Big Bikey. Those Saber's are gorgeous bikes! Gotta laugh about your spaghetti sauce, I know it wasn't funny to you, but we've all been there and done that. I haven't actually lost anything messy, but it seems like everytime I take off something hits the floor. This last time it was a bag of avacados. The Chewmonster had a feast before I could get pulled over and get them. Did you know a chihuahua can peel an avacado and eat a good portion of it in about 5 minutes? That dog is good!! Last June the salt and pepper shakers hit the floor on that durned I-10. Salt, pepper and glass all over the floor. Those things have been in the same spot for 7 years, never moved. Ah well, the joys of heading down the road more than make up for the mishaps. Hope to see you in the near future, may have to rent a bike and go for a scoot! LOL!

And oh yeah....go get some balls from Wallyworld, cut them in half and go practice in a parking lot....You'll have that backing up down pat before you know it!
