No More Lurking

Been lurking on the sidelines for a few weeks and finally made the decision to join up so I can ask questions. I value all the input I can gain from your experiences. I am a young at heart widow within a couple of years of retirement. Am trying to sell my toooo large home with the toooo large yard and all that work. Don't get me wrong, when my husband was alive I really enjoyed working around the home and yard, but now that it's just me and Gus (12 year old fox terrier) it's no fun. What I have learned since becoming single again is that I love seeking out new horizons. So I've been exploring the idea of full time rving. Glad to know there is a network out there.

I teach so in about 20 days I will be on my summer break and was thinking it would be a good time to test the waters so to speak. I "think" I am looking for a good used Class C. I like having it all contained with the driving area. As it so happens I already own a towable vehicle -HHR - so I think I would want something that could pull the car. Then there is the question of washer/dryer on board or use public facilities; how necessary is a tub or is just a shower enough; are slides worth the trouble?So, as you can see, I have lots of questions. Looking forward to input and ideas.

Welcome Horizon Seeker. I like that name. As you can see I had no such creativity when I joined the forum. There's a great bunch of ladies here with a wide variety of experience and interests, so you're bound to get many responses to your questions. Best wishes finding the right rv for you. Welcome, glad to have you with us.

You'll get as many varied answers as you people you ask. Personally, I wouldn't waste the space in an rv for the washer and drier - as much as that's something I'd never be without in a house, it's something I wouldn't get in my rv - and I full-time. You won't see many Class C's with them - only the largest ones. Actually rarely see them in anything but the largest tt's, 5th wheels and A's, too.

My rv has a tiny tub in the shower area. What I like about it is that I use it for doing hand washables. I don't use it to take a bath. Not enough room to do that - plus that uses too much water - you'll only have so much hot water. So, it depends on what you want to use the tub for. Again, if you find a Class C with a tub, it will usually be like mine - small. I can't sit in it - at least not in the tub part, it has a seat, though.

Go look at lots of rv's - find out the things you can't live without - because looking used, you'll have to make some concessions in most cases. Might get some things you don't really need, and give up some - but don't give up on the things you HAVE to have, unless they are things you can EASILY add.

Glad you decided to join and not just lurk. Post often - keep us up on your thoughts. And others will give you opinions completely different from mine - as I said, there are as many opinions about what you need, etc, as there are women rver's.

Welcome aboard. I think there is a thread in the history where some us shared how and why we came up with the rigs we did. But the best part is to look look look and use you imaginaation of how you want to live. You can learn to drive anything....

Welcome, welcome. Glad you decided to join us. I 2nd beth about not having a washer/dryer and most C's don' have them anyway. They use too much water and electric. You learn as you go - instead of a fresh pair of jean/shorts EVERY day you learn to wear them two days. Check your vehicle manual to be sure it can be towed wheels down and find out how much it weighs. All RV's have a weight limit on how much they can tow. Anything you want to know, just ask. We don't consider any question too dumb - we've all been there.

Welcome and glad you decided to join in. Everybody's needs are different. And you don't always get it right the first time. If you browse thru the Forum, I know there's lots of info about this topic. We've moved from a Class C to an A. Good things about both. Have a washer/dryer in this rig and, although I didn't really want it, love it now. But was 3 years without and had no problems-just stopped at a laundromat if I was traveling. Enjoy the process and we'll enjoy right along with you. carold

My rig buying came in baby steps. Little crank up truck camper, bigger truck camper, little class C, bigger class C...that progression took decades and every step seemed like the increase in square footage was like moving into a palace. I think I'm as big now as I'm ever going to be. I think. I'm visualizing something smaller and more energy efficient in my future, far into my future, I'm really happy with what I have now and trying to make it last for a long time.

Welcome to the group. Looking forward to shopping for your RV along with you. I have a truck camper, so no room for a washer/dryer, heck there is hardly enough room to spin around in the camper. Only you can decide what you need/want and must have. There are pros and cons to everything from size of RV to options. Once you decide on how you are going to use the RV, then the other things will fall into place. Just my 2 cents. Again, welcome. Linda

Welcome. I've been lurking for awhile too and finally decided to join up earlier this spring. Have gotten lots of good info, advice and laughs included. LIke you I'm ready to hit the road, but have to wait one more year. Am still looking for my rig. While a lot of the gals on this site have starte small and worked up over the years, Still looking for my first rig. Long patient process. Have it now narrowed down to TT, 2 5th wheels or a Class B. Thought about a C, but I think a B might be better. As to washer and dryer, I wouldn't bother with it either. Unless you are a person who puts on a total clean change of clothes every day, you wouldn't have enough washing to bother with. Since my dad passed away 7 years ago, I find my self doing laundry about once a week. Remember, the more stuff you have in an RV, the more weight you are carrying. If you are going to park and stay put in one spot, then maybe having a washer/dryer might be okay, but there is the added expense of buying propane etc. and you can only carry so much water on board. Nope, I think stopping at the laundromat works out the best. Have fun. Going to enjoy hearing how you make out.
