Hi, I'm new here!

Come on in and say hello.

Hi, I'm new here!

Postby HomeOnWheels » Wed Jul 15, 2009 7:41 pm

Hello new friends...my name is Kathi and I am new about EVERYTHING that has to do with RVing!

Although it has been financial hardship that got me to this place (of contemplating full-time residence in a travel trailer) I am really excited about the idea of shedding the responsibility of home ownership and all the tasks and obligations that come with it.

It is exciting to think that a group of women have come together on the net to share their experiences and I look forward to getting to know each of you. Believe me, I will be like a sponge soaking up all the information you share with me.

It's a good life! Kathi

Welcome Kathi. You're right, it is a good life. You still have a community - the RVing community. We're pretty close even tho many of us have never met and we're spread all over the country which just means you have someone to visit almost everywhere you might go. Have you thought about workamping? Tell us more about yourself - what kind of rig do you have or want? What part of the country are you in? Married? Single? Pets? We're a pretty nosy bunch.

Thanks for the welcome Karen,

I really don't know much about what is next for me. I have big plans to relinquish my worldly possessions through an estate sale and purchase a travel trailer. There is a wonderful RV park near my work...so I plan to stay there for atleast 6 months and get settled into a routine. Then see what happens next.

I will continue to live with my Llaso Apso puppy (10 years old) and tiny calico kitten (3 years old).

I have a lot to learn about what my options are in travel trailers. So far, all my research as been through the internet. I live near Houston where it has been hot - very hot - so I have not ventured out to see any trailers yet. I plan to make a road trip soon to central Texas where a dealer has consignment, new and used units in an air-conditioned warehouse. I hope to come back home with enough knowledge to make an educated decision about what I want to purchase.

Hi Kathi, welcome, great to have you here! I'm not far from you, in Southwest Louisiana. This is a great place to learn, laugh and lots more. You know there are lots of places to look at rv's around Houston,, I think there is a PPL that sell RV's on consignment also. Good luck in whatever you choose for your new home, don't be afraid to ask people for their experiences and recomendations, it can help you decide what you want and help to weigh your options. AND I'll tell you now, these gals (me included) love pictures of any kind, you, your fur babies, rv, tow vehicle, campgrounds, crafts, travels, and anything else you could think of! So, I will say again, Welcome Kathi, jump right in with us!

Welcome to the forum. Just wanted to tell you there is an RV consignment lot in or near Houston that has a very good web site with a lot of different RV's posted. I'm not in the market for an RV but I like to look at the pictures of the different RV's. You can see I have a lot to do. :) The company is PPL Motorhomes. There is a section that tells what RV's have sold for so if you can kind of get an idea what used RV's are worth.

Hello, Kathi, and welcome. I have a limited income so plan on living in my travel trailer in the not too distant future which will increase my available funds by almost half as I now pay space rent for my mobilehome. That way I can also see more of this beautiful country.
Like the others have said: we love photos.

Hi Kathi, welcome!
So glad to have you and we'll get excited right along with you over your new purchase.
I've lived in my rv for 2 years, out of budget necessity, rent is just too high in this
town and I have 3 dogs so the rv was my cheapest option. I settled into a retirement
community and am quite happy in my arrangements.

Welcome to our wonderful group of RVing women, Kath!

You will love this group.....we are very diverse, and yet share a common love of camping and daring to take to the road! Many do not have RVs yet, so don't worry about that. We love to shop with each other, and share info and photos of rigs, repairs, remakes, decorating, designs, floor plans, and much more!

Hope to meet you somewhere along the road after I retire from teaching next spring! I will be looking for a long-term place to park my rig over the toughest winter months here in the north country of way upstate NY. One more long winter of feeding a woodstove! But I DO love cross-country skiing, too, so will hopefully be able to wait for a few early snowfalls before I head south.

Would be neat to see a few pics of you and your 4-footers! Read Beth's instructions on how to post photos without using bandwidth on the forum>

Happy travels!

Welcome. If there are any rallys planned in you area try to attend. Most of the rallys have excellent seminars with lots of information to soak up. You don't have to have an RV to attend. Most have a price for day passes. It also gives you a chance to see so many options available to you. Each one has positives and drawbacks but those are so individual to your wants and needs! Just don't trust the salesperson to give you straight info! :-)
Have fun and look, look, look.....

Hi Kathi,

Welcome! I'm so glad you found us, it sounds like you are one of us already! The shopping for the right rig is fun and we all join in celebrating each other's adventures. Yes, we love pictures, and using Photobucket is pretty easy after the first time or two of getting used to the site. I don't mind it at all.

I'm still living in my home and will work a few more years but now that I have a little travel trailer (TT) I can see me living full time in one. In fact I'm camping in my own back yard right now and typing this from the camper sofa! :D

Don't be afraid to ask questions, we all have. We are here for you! I hope to meet you somewhere down the road!

Hi Kathi and Welcome to the forum. We are a great bunch of women and it will not take you too long to realize that. Take your time deciding on your RV, after all that is half the fun. Shopping for a unit really is personal. We can give advice about ours and why we chose it. Don't rely too much on the salesman, they just want to sell the biggest and most expensive units. Start by making a list of the things you have to have, then want, then can live without. This will narrow down your search. Good luck in the adventure. Linda

What a nice warm welcome!!!

I really appreciate all the advice and welcoming comments on my first venture onto the forum. Obviously there is something common among the women who frequent this site...and the common thread seems to come from the heart. Thanks for bringing me into the fold.

Kathi

A big, ol' WELCOME, Kathi! And - what everyone else said!! I think I searched the internet for almost 2 years before I could make a somewhat intelligent decision on an RV. Ended up with the cutest little travel trailer. So, move slowly so you don't make an expensive mistake - there are sooooo many choices out there!

Anyway - pop right in here whenever you can. It's an addicting little group! :)
