Good morning ladies! Well I am new to the RVing world. Retired last November and just moved to Texas. This "Retirement" is a totally new thing to me. You know what I mean?! My trailer is a 17' Casita Spirit travel trailer that I got last May. Still have fun backing this puppy in a parking place - 2, 3, 4 even 6 tries (:oops: ) but I get there. Looking forward to making some trips this year. Just recently got my laptop setup to take on the road. Now on to the next thing!

I admire you re the backing up. We had our TT (23') about 4 years and I never really mastered it well and hubby not at all. My big bus suits me better --- drives like a big car and I have to keep reminding myself it is NOT a car LOL!

Isn't retirement grand?? ...this from someone with only two months under her belt LOL. What plans have you at this point?

Awesome to hear that you have a Casita and are hitting the road this year. I looked at them and thought they were really cute. But with the daughter and I plus one dog (at the moment) it would be way to tight for us. We will for sure need something bigger so that we both have "our own space".

Have fun reading and jump on in anytime. No sharks here to worry about taking a chunk out of ya.

Welcome Birdie! I'm on the road at the moment....well just now I'm sitting in the parking lot of a mall with my laptop plugged into the truck. But after lunch I'll be rolling again. I just left Florida and am now in Mississippi. I'll spend the night at a State Park becuase I've been boondocking since the 20 of February and you wouldn't want to know me at the moment. I just e-mailed a friend that I look like a crazy old lady, just barely washed with a washcloth, clothes all frumpy, hair sticking out everywhere and to top it off I drive along yelling and punching my dog, who I really adore! But he's driving me nuts constantly whining. He thinks his name is, Shut up for Gods sake, Thump! I will apologise to him tonight. There is such a thing as putting on too many miles. But anyway, you'll find out for yourself and I hope you love it as much as I do. Beth, me (the crazy 'ol woman) Karen and her friend are all meeting at Port Lavaca next week. Are you too far away to make it there?

Please do look into coming to Port Lavaca - Sparkle and I will both be boondocking - Karen is staying at a small park near us. I believe I have another woman friend who will be coming in her rig from the park I'm at now. I figure we women have to take over from the kids who will be on spring break

Islandmomma, the group I ran with in Tucson, had two Nancy's - so cuz my hobby is birding, I got that, the other one is "Red" cuz she is redheaded. The backing up is tough but a no-brainer. Tough to do. No brainer cuz no backup = no utilities and people will run u ovr. i.e. ain't got no choice. Besides in my career I worked, for, with and thru men - I learned if they can do it...I can do it, and usually do! Joking aside, it was a situation if I wanted to do this (turtle travel), I had to learn how to herd the system down the road, park it, feed it, empty it and all the other 'it' stuff. And Echo, it is small, but it is less room to clean up....

Sparkle, I already love your style, girl! I have had makeup and good clothes on 3 times since I retired. And wonder if I don't get cleaned up Thursday for the Doctor will she not take me on as a patient? I have given away bunches of my 'good clothes' (suits and dresses) and kept the better ones (the jeans and t-shirts). I don't miss 'having" to get up at 4:30 to go slave. I love getting up at 5:00 and lounging on the beach with a cup of Joe. I will see about having a vet psych at the beach for 'thumper'!

I can boondock but prefer to not do that, so I'll look for at least elec and water. Expect to see yall down there on the edge and looks like it may be either Monday or Tuesday.

Congratulations on your retirement, Birdie! Those Casitas are nice. Mtngal will be interested...she's been looking at those. Glad you joined us, and yep, you'll fit right in!

Hi Birdie, welcome to the forum and to Texas! I'm in Austin part-time (currently in CA), so we are practically neighbors. And yes, I love Casitas, but have just about decided to go with a Class B now. Have fun at the gtg in Port Lavaca and look forward to meeting you this summer.

Hi, Birdie, and welcome. I am also a birder but don't do the list thing. Hope to get back to AZ to see some of those tropicals we never get here in WA.
I have a 16' tt that I have never pulled as I didn't have a tow vehicle. Now I do and am faced with the backing-it-up that I haven't done in many, many years. Scares me just thinking about it.

Welcome. I was able to talk to a bunch of Casita owners having a small rally last Nov in a NC State Park. They let me look at their little turtles and I really appreciated the one woman that showed me all the adaptations she and her DH had done to utilize that space for what was important for them. One gentleman traveled with two standard poodles. I had to use my imagination for how they all fit. Hope to see you down the road.

Retirement does take some getting used to. Or as a good friend and former secretary of mine once said, "When did I have time to work?" Once I retired I made a pact with my feet. Only comfortable shoes and no suits or skirts. You can do a lot with black dress pants when you need to.

You've got a great rig with your Casita. I've seen some in rv shows and at campgrounds. Very handy size. don't worry about backing up with it, you will get the hang of it with practice. I know,... I'm still practicing!
