Welcome to the forum. I like you message to the kids as to your plans to stay out of COLD for as long as it takes for the north to warm up. :o :) Several of us plan to wander south of the border later this winter. Keep posting and eventually our paths may cross on some beach somewhere! :)

I'll be heading for Mexico next month, too, but to the southeast. As for wifi, stop in a Telcel store and get a wifi stick (Banda ancha) which you can add time to as you need it. There's not really anything you can't find down there that I can think of. Almost takes the fun out of it these days. ;) And no, not TMI. You'll find that we're sympathetic souls here. ;) You can always sign on to amazon.com and send baby gifts. ;) Oh, if the "transitos" (traffic cops) stop you anywhere with unlikely charges, most are doing best by not speaking Spanish and playing the dumb turista, but I don't hear many stories of that in the Baja. And, FYI, there's a Facebook page on traveling in Mexico. Search Facebook for "on the road in." Always someone around with an answer to whatever. Buen viaje!

Welcome - and as Tina said, some of us will be down that way at some point. Have you been to Todos Santos before? It's an artsy town - and where Hotel California is ... south of La Paz (but close enough for major shopping expeditions) and north of the really, really crowded areas. Right now my plans are jello for down there, but don't think staying quite that far south - loved too many other beach areas more on my last trip. But you never know. And stay in touch, cuz not staying long doesn't mean not visiting!

Glad to have you with us.

Welcome! Where in MN are you from? I live just west of Mpls. No RV for me yet but one of these days... I recently moved back here from San Diego to help look after my dad. Loved it down there!

Have fun in Mexico! There are several ladies here heading down to Baja next month so maybe you can meet up with them somewhere. One of the ladies on here is already in Mexico with her hubby but they are not in Baja. They go down every winter and know a lot about the different areas and the best ways to travel, etc down there.

Have fun on your new journey!

Welcome to the group. Loved the line about killing pretty fishes. I too have grandchildren in cold country, mine being in Minnesota. Happy travels. Oh and I too am a retired nurse.

Welcome, Judi. I'm new here myself. And I'm appreciating hearing about Mexico. I didn't think it would be an option for me as a single gal, but I'm encouraged. Don't think I'll start my first winter soloing that way though. I do know about taking off in an RV (with my significant other) to live the full-time dream just as my daughter got pregnant with her first child. Luckily, I wasn't too far away when the baby was born, and I was able to be there. I had no idea I'd have such a visceral reaction to the birth of a grandchild. I found I couldn't bear to be too far away as the baby grew (I missed a lot), and so I returned to the area before she had the next one. I'm giving running away in an RV another go (alone this time while S/O works and takes care of the house) but will have to come home more often because the kids grow so fast. I want them to know who I am.

Happy trails to you!

Dawn
