Lookin towards the future!

Oh hello all, its soooo good to find this site! I am a "used to be " camper, lol. Had a 35 foot set up at a distant campground that I stayed at most of the year and went to work from there. I miss it soo much. Jump to the future, I am now home taking care of my mother who has Alzheimer's, and will continue to do so as long as necessary. Still working too, but I decided I needed a goal to work towards to keep my spirits up.

My future plans....sell house and all and head out on the road. I know I will have to wait till that terrible day when I lose mom, but I know I don't want to be stuck in a house that takes more and more care the older I get. I just loved the camping life and spent plenty of time in my younger years on some fantastic road trips.

I worry some about going it alone, not the alone part, lol, the security part of it. But then I have always been pretty independent! Saw some RV groups for "singles" online but don't want to be caught in that "looking for a mate" atmosphere either!

My kids live out of state, so I could visit occasionally, but mostly would like to travel some, just park some, and basically just enjoy my retirement years.

Sooo, while my journey wont start for awhile, I am compiling all the info I can and making plans for the future. This looks like a great site to lean on and learn from. Thanks!

Good to have you with us. I know it's hard to take care of aging parents. Mine are long gone now, but I remember it well. And others on here have done it/are doing it now. Good that you are able to see beyond that and to what will make you happy. Hope you can get what you want when the time comes. No reason to not jump in with the fun here in the meantime, as you're doing.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you have found a place to explore your dreams and collect lists of places to go and people to see. Keep you dreams alive. Your journey may have some local "roads" to tackle before you head out to the bigger highways, but you will get there. Keep on!

Welcome! Our GTGs are fun but don't assume that the other groups for singles are mate matching. Some are simply for solo travelers, providing comraderie on the road. Men can be fun too, especially in small doses.

As was mentioned, you can join one of our GTGs just as a day trip. You will have fun, eat well and get tons of info on our lifestyle. If you see another member on the map in your area, contact them for a mini gtg; maybe coffee.

You are a wonderful daughter. Are there programs in your area that will give you a caregiver break?

You sure have your hands full with a job and your Mom. It's certainly a gift of Love you are giving her. And it will take its toll on you. You know, I'm sure, you need to care for yourself, too.

Hello all, Thanks for the warm welcome! I am looking forward to the day of heading out on the road! Making plans is great therapy for me now I guess. lol

One of my worries is the security aspect of traveling alone. I lost my pup a few years ago and haven't gotten another yet. I have enough to take care of now. But wonder if getting one before I head out on the road would be a good idea, security wise. Kinda a built in security system, lol. Yet I am not sure I want something else to take care of after all this, my kitty is pretty independent. What do you do when you want to spend time out running around all day and cant take dog with you? Do the campgrounds get picky about leaving them alone in the RV?

On a lighter note, you have to have a sense of humor when you take care of a person with Alzheimers. My mom came out on the deck this morning and told me she didn't want to go to school today! She is 87. Kinda caught me off guard so I said " what?" She said again she didn't want to go to school today, so I told her she isn't in school anymore but if you know this mind set, you aren't being heard at this point. She insisted she didn't want to go so I told her I would write her an excuse and she could stay home and hang out with me today. 5 minutes later she comes back out on the deck with pen an paper and I indeed have to write her that note! lol Gotta love her!
