Hello from Roseville, CA

Come on in and say hello.

Hello from Roseville, CA

Postby MandysMom » Sun Sep 22, 2013 10:49 pm

I am glad to finally get in. Registered then could not get in for a week, but here I am . Yay.
I live in Northern CA (Roseville, near Sacramento) with hubby and disabled son, 2 cats and a bird. We traveled some in our 76 GMC 4905 Bus conversion, until husbands health took a sideways turn. We also have a Leisure Travel Free Spirit, 2005. Funny story to that one is, husband tried for years to get me to buy a Mercedes. I kept balking as I just did not like them. Then I saw the Sprinter! It was love at first sight. I bought it without having driven one, from a Tx dealer and we actually drove to the factory in spring of 05 to pick her up. I love that van. We do weekends in it , though not much recently. I did spend a week in the van at the Kiwanis House behind UC Davis Hospital in June/July, while husband had 12 hours of surgery to remove a tumor on his palate and recover. Since then at home, caring for him as he goes through radiation. Tomorrow is the last day of that ! Yay. Now to start true recovery so we can take weekends away and plan our next big trip.
I am a lifelong camper, having spent my youth going to Girl Scout Camp and camping in tents in wonderful places such as Yosemite with my parents. Married a man who said, "I only camp if it's in a RV with a color tv, AC, and a comfortable bed". So I finally got us into the RV's and he camps. LOL
I can't really take off on my own, as he is a diabetic (insulin pump and all) and needs a helper, but hopefully I can meet some of you at some point in time.
My other hobbies include crochet, card making (rubber stamps), and of course my computer and digital camera.
Our two cats come with us in the larger RV and love to get out on their leashes and chase squirrels. The bird stays at the birdie resort (aka her fav avian vet).
Our son goes with us in the big RV, but it's just hubby and I in the van. Our next hoped for trip is to Okla to see his father and sister next fall (was supposed to be this fall, but life had it's changes in mind).
Looking forward to getting to know the wonderful women here, although I feel like I have met some of you having read most of what has been written in the forum while waiting for approval. Happy Travels. -Velda PS, I just turned 65 and feel young at heart!

Hello Velda.

Welcome to the forum. There are a bunch of great people here, and they are very knowledgeable and sharing.

I really like the Sprinter too, but I went with a GMC Savanna.

Best wishes!

Welcome, Velda, from the Midwest.
You've found a great group here - so just join in whenever you'd like. We do like pics of you, your rig, your travels... Of course, I'm not one to speak as I still haven't posted pics from my trip out west.
As you can see, I've got a 2004 Airstream Interstate on the Sprinter chassis - just got it last year & have enjoyed it thus far - especially the mpg. :D
Hope to meet you on my next trip out west.

Welcome to the group. Look forward to reading about your trips. Did you train your cats to walk on a leash from when they were kittens? My cats are not leash receptive!

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
In answer to the kitty question, Yes we put ours on leashes fairly early. We have had both since they were a few months old. They are Savannah's and the breed seems to take to walks on leash. Add to that we would never allow them alone outdoors as we had too many problems with previous cats who were indoor /outdoor. We bought special walking jackets from a woman who makes them for Savannah's to be escape proof and comfortable. Stormy, the elder by three weeks, took to hers almost immediately enjoying walking with my husband around our court and on trips. Mandy tended to flop on her side and look pained then try to climb my leg for a while, until she saw how much fun her "sister" was having and then decided to go along with it. Some cats seem never to like it but key may be the right harness and patience.
I will try to get pics in soon. This whole 20 mi each way five days a week thing has me wore out. Wonderfully that is over as of Monday and now it will be follow up appointments fairly often for a few months. He needs to get over the radiation so we can try a few short trips before we plan a longer journey once appointments are spaced out. We are tentatively planning a week maybe to Quartzite in Jan. I look forward to getting to know you all and lovE hoe caring you all seem to be. I have been silently wishing Mitch all the best in recovery and treatment. Happy travels all.

Welcome Velda & family (including critters!) :D As they say, age is only a number! Yes, really caring women on this forum, & I hope you get to meet as many of them as I have. My RVing wouldn't be near as enjoyable without them! ...Happy travels!
