I am two years from retiring and am looking forward to buying an RV and hitting the road. I was so glad to find this site, because I anticipate having many questions.
I'm not a complete novice since I did own a Coleman pop-up for 5 yrs that I used for weekend getaways
I would like to purchase a Class C motorhome or a travel trailer. I have been reading and researching everything I can find about the RV lifestyle for about a year and now I am ready to get serious with my planning. I plan to go out this weekend and look at RVs.
I'm not sure if I should be concentrating my search on new or used. What are the pros and cons of each?

Welcome to the forum. Good luck on your purchase. I purchased my 2007 Class A diesel new at the CA Pomona RV show but if I purchased the same type of RV now, I would look at used because of the huge depreciation on new vehicles. Have fun in your search.

New or used is a personal choice. We bought new since we had specific needs and we found it in a new unit. Sometime a used unit will allow you to move up a level financially. I would like a Mobile Suite http://www.drvsuites.com/ if I was going to full time but I could not afford a new one. Likewise, I could afford a good used truck, but not a new one. Every new unit will have a few bugs. With a used unit, hopefully someone else fixed all the bugs.

There is not a one size fits all answer.

Hi, Deb...and Welcome!!! Where are you located in GA? We know the Savannah to Jacksonville, FL area well as we camphosted at Ft. Stewart for 5 yrs....

We bought our 1 TT and both 5th wheels new....just our preference as full timers...of 9 yrs. as of last Sunday, Aug. 4th...

Welcome Deb Melissa hit it on the nose--personal preference as well as finances are generally the biggest factors in finding an RV. The old "you'll know the one when you find it" worked for me. Wishing you luck & hope to see you down the road someday!!

Welcome to the forum. Be sure to enjoy the research and rig hunt portion of the journey. It is an adventure all it own. At this point I would look any anything I could find that people will let you inside. The more you see, the more information you will have. Used or New both have benefits.....it is all about your budget and finding that "great" deal for a rig that fits your needs. Have fun and be sure to come through here and tell of the trials, tribulations and joys! Your learning curve can help someone else! We pay it forward when ever possible!

Thanks to you all for the warm welcome. Someone ask where I live in Georgia. That would be Atlanta, in Decatur to be exact.
I did go to a couple of RV dealerships this weekend and I was surprised by the many choices and decisions you have just with the class C.
I think I did decide to go with new instead of used. So I did make one decision.
One salesman actually suggested a Class B conversion van since at first I will be traveling solo. The dealerships I checked out didn't carry them, but from what I found on the internet, I don't think I would want something that small.
I'm just glad I have a while before I have to decide.

Have fun...you can never walk through too many units while on the hunt. It is great to help you understand why you don't want the mirrors on the ceiling and all white leather......
