Please allow me to introduce myself. I've been reading and enjoying this forum for the past few weeks. Camping has been part of my life as a child and an adult. I introduced my son to camping when he was 14 and we began seasonal camping the next year. We started in a tent, quickly moved to a pop up and then a travel trailer. He spent his high school years making many new friends both seasonal and weekenders from many different places. Life changed and we gave it up his last year in high school. I always talked about missing camping and wanting to get back into it. This past summer I finally took the plunge, found a new camper and rented a seasonal site at the same cg. Its 8 years later and my son is an adult but he still comes along and has made many friends. I prefer to relax by the fire, walk my dogs and people watch. Our camper was a 96 Jayco Designer Series travel trailer delivered to the site by the gentleman I bought it from. Unfortunately superstorm Sandy blew over a very large double trunked tree flattening the camper. Fortunately no one was in it. We decided to continue to camp and have replaced the tt with a 2001 Fleetwood Prowler tt. We have yet to camp in it since the weather has not cooperated. I will be 60 later this year so retirement is getting closer. It was my dream for a long time to buy a rv and go see the country. Part of me doesn't really think I'll do it. Your posts have been inspirational. Even though the only thing I've towed is a pop up( and lost it a few times, thanks goodness for those chains) I'm seriously thinking I could do it. I will probably always need to consider my son's living situation so I don't see me selling my home but I could take extended trips. My retirement income will not be huge but I should be able to get by. Anyway just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. Keep those posts coming so I can experience the rest of the country while continuing to do the 8-5 routine.
Sandy

Welcome Sandy,
I'm a newbie too. Funny thing about this forum is dreams have a way of coming true... :D I joined it last July & found my van in August. I haven't been out much - doing that work thing too - but I hope I can shorten my original plans & get on the road sooner rather than later. These ladies show us it can be done! :o :o
Stay tuned to all the adventures here & soon you'll be adding your own.
:)
Hope to meet you down the road.
Catherine

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I wish the weather here in Pa was as warm. I live in Reading Pa which is about 50miles NW of Phila. My camper is set up at Appalachian Campsites in Shartlesville Pa. It takes about 45 minutes to get there from home. I swear the air pressure is different there. I can feel the stress leaving my body almost as soon as I leave home. I don't have a vehicle to tow my TT. I pay someone to move it for me when needed. The only camper I ever towed was a pop up. When I bought the pop up they installed the necessary towing equipment onto my minivan. They gave me a demo of how to hook it up and sent me on my merry way. I found it difficult to get that ball and coupler just right. It would appear to be in place and I could lock it but on two occasions it turned out to not be secured. The one time was on a city street going around 20mph. What a racket! The tongue hit the ground and the whole unit was drug a few feet. Fortunately I was not going too fast and I had those chains on correctly. There was no real damage just scared the heck out of us. The other time was leaving a campsite. Kinda the same thing happened. After that I had it down pat and towed it many times without incident. It was a great little camper. We once slept two adults, four kids and two dobermans in that pop up. Was lots of fun.

Yep, even if you don't have a rig to take to it, you should make at least a day trip to the PA gtg this summer!

I have workamped two years not far from you ... Lake in Wood... legal address is Narvon, but it's actually right by Bowmansville. Just a hop skip and jump from Reading. They sold to a larger cg group this past year (after lots of deaths in the family) but the manager is still the same there. It is a beautiful, and peaceful, part of the world, so definitely understand you leaving your troubles behind when you head to your cg.
