HI. I'm Sooz and I joined awhile ago, introduced myself, and then faded into the background because my enthusiasm for hitting the road did not strike a matching chord in my partner, Jenny. Now, however, she's anxious to retire and get going. So, in the past six days, we traded the Prius for a Dodge Ram, the pop-up for a fifth wheel, and by year's end at the latest we will be fulltiming.

Our first trip (assuming they can schedule that hitch installation) is Cannon Beach, Oregon with two of our daughters and all six of our grandchildren. This will be a first to have all the grandkids together. (Of course, two of them were just born) One daughter will be missing because she's in Italy taking circus training. I brag about her a lot and show photos on Facebook all the time.

We plan to spend six months traveling to warmer climes (we live outside Portland) and the rest of the year hanging out in Seattle where two grandkids live and the PDX area where our friends are. We also plan to hit the East coast to see friends and family, the deep south, and even the Northern states and Canada. Once our oldest and her family get back from a three year stint in Korea, we'll be annoying them in Texas.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know all of you and plan to pick your brains. While we've done a lot of camping over the years, fulltiming is a whole new phase.

I haven't gotten out much yet (still working), but hope to make weekend runs as soon as springtime sets in here in the midwest.

Welcome to the forum and the fun. Sounds as if you both have plenty of reasons to travel the country and that is just for the visiting. If you check out the Get to Gethre thread and take a look at the members map you may find other reasons to visit areas!

Another welcome from Texas!

When we get to Texas to visit the kids, we'll be in the Ft. Hood area. They have a house in Copperas Cove and SIL plans to retire from Ft. Hood so they can stay in Texas. We'll also go to Southern Texas as SIL's parents live in Rockport, and because I crave warmth. Plus, I'm now working on getting Jenny to at least dip one toe across the Mexican border. She thinks drug gangs are just on the other side waiting to kill her.....

I'll go look at the Oregon GTGs right now....And I'll put them on the calendar. Jenny is also afraid we'll never make friends on the road. I'm sorry, but we've been in foreign countries where she's made friends (or run into old friends). I have no doubts about her ability to make friends wherever we go....

Sooz - I hate to say it, but you really do have to be careful in the Texas border towns. The only I would recommend is Nuevo Progresso. We used to go across all the time in Matamoros or more commonly, Reynosa, as my grandparents lived in McAllen but both are not the best in the world any longer.

And Rockport is more in the Coastal Bend region, still over 200 miles to the border.

Hi and welcome to you and Jenny. Good for you both to be living your dreams. If you are going to be in South Central Oklahoma on your trips into or out of Texas, I will be Camp Hosting at Lake Murray State Park this summer. Would love to meet you both.

Welcome Sooz, Jenny & 4-leggers! I'm fairly new to this, now on my first big trip (NY to FL to CA) which was to be two months & now will be three! Can't get enoff of it! Hope we meet someday, somewhere along the road or join a gtg!!!! Keep posting!
