New to roaming...but been planning for years.

Come on in and say hello.

New to roaming...but been planning for years.

Postby MrsHomeSweetRoam » Thu Nov 08, 2012 6:42 pm

Hey all...just wanted to introduce myself before I jumped into any other conversations here:

As I said, new to this forum (but not forums in general) and new to RVing (although spent a good amount of time in them in childhood). About two weeks ago, my husband and I took possession of an RV we purchased during the Pomona RV Show here in SoCal. We've had it about two week- within our first week, we've boondocked in the streets of LA (outside our apartment and near my husbands place of employment) and we've boondocked on my aunt's property in the Inland Empire...and finally we've spent a night or two experiencing full hook-ups at both a nice RV park and a more camp-like site. This second week it has been in the shop to address some of the issues we found during the "shakedown period".

First- WE ARE LOVING EVERY SECOND OF IT- even the hiccups, educational mishaps and the expected and not so expected "shakedown" discoveries of our rig during this week of orientation (okay maybe not the leak part, but everything else).

We're in the midst of selling off our remaining possessions and trying to find and move our last fledgling to his [first] own/new place. We wish this part was as easy as our transition to the RV lifestyle.

We have til the end of the month and then we're no longer tethered to a "stick and brick" home (Los Angeles based apartment, in our case) ...but we are still chained to my husbands office/job. Our plan is to float around the LA, Orange and Inland Empire counties while he's working- and then take long weekends ...or make our weekends much more exciting than they've been. And when duty calls us out of state- we'll have our contents/home with us (previously we've traveled in our Honda Element). We'll bounce from family homes/lands to boondocking on various streets to staying in campsites and official RV parks- depending on our whim and mood and finances.

In the future, we plan on taking contract jobs all over the US and using that as a way to travel and see new places---moving along when we don't like a place and finding further work in the area if we decide to stay longer.

In the meantime, we'll take all the savings from our initial lifestyle change to boost our "fuel fund" and have it on stand by for future fun trips.

And amongst all of this we'll be learning, learning and learning.

Oh and my husband has a blog -more like he rambles and I supply some images for it... Look forward to chatting and learning from you all.

Welcome, :D and we're a nosy bunch and expect lots of stories from your meanderings around the countryside. We love photos too, including the
four footers. Feel free to stop in for morning coffee, anyone can make the coffee even if its just a splash and go and we also have the campfire
where you can talk about anything and everything or just count the beers on the wall  Hope to meet you down the road somewhere someday :D

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to hearing more about your adventures and meeting you around a campfire. If your husband wants to share and he is your family "blog" writer, you can add a link to your blog in the signature section if you want and he is willing to share.

Thanks for the warm welcomes everyone! I linked to my husband's blog as the "website" portion of my profile- hope that's good. Definitely look forward to crossing paths and meeting new friends- especially rv-minded people!

Hello! :) Almost... sitting in our wrecked apartment (stuff scattered about in various piles and sections that only mean something to me) waiting around for the 15th- when we hope to move our last fledgling out into his first [efficiency] apartment...and then whatever is left (as almost everything we are taking with us is already in the rig) we'll sell or give away... We are busy trying to sell off the big stuff- and use it as a nest egg for fun fuel or for le kiddo. Too bad selling things and moving the kiddo forward is not as easy as our transition to the new lifestyle. ;)

My husband is sitting next to me watching a live video question/answer thing with fellow full-timers, Technomadia --he's a computer guy and interested in all the mobile tech talk stuffs. So twenty-something days til we're cut loose.

I recommend you put a link to the blog in your signature. Easier for everyone.
