Oh Boy do I need advice!

Come on in and say hello.

Oh Boy do I need advice!

Postby FatLadyHound » Mon Jun 24, 2013 2:04 pm

Hey there ladies,

In September, I am embarking on a year long drive across country with my basset hound, after quitting my job and selling my house and most of my possessions. In a rut - need to reinvent, reconnect with myself, and see this beautiful country.

I've been researching like heck to find out what to do and not to do, where to go, how to budget, and how to manage day to day. My biggest dilemma now is what to drive. I will be traveling with my basset hound and need something with a little space for her. it needs to be something easy to drive and park, and hookup.

I've been looking at the ALiner pop up travel campers and also thinking about a VW Euro/Campervan. Anyone have them - any advice on what else I should consider? Sure would appreciate it!

Can I still belong to your club if I don't buy a "real rv?"

Looking forward to being a member of the group!

RV=recreational vehicle. So what is a "real rv?" whatever you are using and you are welcome here even if you don't have an rv. Some of our members are still waiting and looking for their special one. So, welcome, even if you tent camp.

yep, what she said
welcome and you have come to the right place for honest opinions, and we all have them :D
currently I have a fifthwheel but of course its in storage but my plan is to get a class c. I also
have dogs and the need to just turn the key and drive away is the most important thing in my
mind. Don't want to have to bother with the hooking up part. So..you see, we all have our
special requirements to be happy. Go looking and imagine yourself in one that suits you, sit
down, spend some time, walk around and see how it feels. And of course you have to look at
your budget too. Don't be afraid to post and ask questions, thats how we all got where we are
today. :D

Read read read all you can about all available options. There is at least one thread here on why each of us chose the rigs we did. I'll try and find it. It's a good read.

After ALL my research, I determined that a tiny travel trailer would be the best fit for me, my husband, our Little Beast, and our budget. It's worked out well.

So, welcome to a great Forum of very experienced and smart women.
We'll look forward to following along on your shopping adventures! :)
Now I'm off to try and find that discussion...

Welcome to the forum.....visit all the dealers or the RV shows that you can...walk in everything, even the rigs you ahve already decided you didn;t want. If nothing else you can make yourself sure that isn't what you want! Have fun. The search is the first art of the adventure!. :)

Thanks Mitch, for those thread links. I read thru both of them. Very interesting and thought-provoking! I was thinking about buying my brother's pop-up when he gets ready to sell it, but now I think I will pass on that. I think I will eventually get a small trailer like yours.

I second what has been written here. Take a pencil and paper and write down everything!!! What you like and do not like.

And keep asking questions!!! We're here to help. lyn

I agree with all the others, don't rush into anything. When I bought my 13ft scamp, I decided to buy it based on my TV. I had a Chevy van and I was told I could pull a Scamp, in 2-3 weeks I owned one. I now have a Chevy Trailblazer. It's all I could afford, and all the bigger I could tow. It's everything I need and more to give me the freedom of getting away and camping. I love how easy it is to set up, and tear down. I can leave it at the campground and still be able to go site seeing. I live in the city and have had many people stop in to see if I would sell it. I finally put a little sign in the back window "I'm Not for Sale". Take your time, check all your options, and most of all... Have fun!

Wow! I am overwhelmed by your hospitality, everyone! Thank you one and all for your replies.

Right now, i am leaning towards either an ALiner or a VW EuroVan Camper. Going to look this weekend with friends who've done some research on this. Can't wait to get time to check out the links you sent me.

SoLow and I thank you! I'll be back!
