Newbie wanta be

Hello
What a friendly and supportive group of women you all seem to be!- just what I need, I think, because I am wanting so much to take the plunge but am a bit scared. I am also from Northern California. I love to camp and explore new places but have always done it in the company of my children who are now almost all grown. I can't see myself just sitting around doing nothing and long for the freedom of such adventures but the thought of being alone at night time in strange places makes me hesitate. Of course I do have my best dog friend to keep me company but he's not the bravest either! I was just about ready to put a deposit down on a camping van but once again find myself pulling back because of my fear. So, all you courageous souls, any advice and encouragement would be greatly welcomed.
Thanks, Geordie

Welcome, Geordy. RVers are some of the most friendly people you can hope to meet. I have made friends at every state park campground I have gone to. Your campground neighbors are close by so you aren't really alone. I know it is scarey to go out on your own but you will never regret it.

Welcome to the forum. I does help with you like quiet evenings reading with just the dog because traveling by yourself you do spend time by yourself but there are all sort of wonderful people out there that you just haven't met yet. A few on here to start with..... :) If you are still leery travel to a gtg without a rig and check out the rigs and folks and sit around a few campfires and listen to the stories. Maybe that will help you decide!

Welcome from another Californian. I travel alone with my 2 dogs. To me it's no different than driving your car somewhere alone. With both, you just need to be aware of your surroundings and trust your gut feelings. It's much better to get out there and enjoy this wonderful country than warming the couch in front of the TV.

Hello Geordy,

I'm single and travel alone with one dog, so I guess I'm not really alone! Whenever I go to a campground and have fear for my safety, I think about the people sleeping in tents. They are way more vulnerable! Like others have said, take the usual precautions that you use in everyday life. You will not regret getting over this hurdle, as you have conquered other hurdles in your life. It will give you a feeling of great freedom. And there are lots of ladies here to help!

Hi Geordie. The women on the forum are great with helping. Just do what feels comfortable for you, you'll get braver with more experience.

Hi Geordy, welcome to the group. One great way to ease into RVing is to join some of the get togethers (GTGs) that always seem to be happening. It is a great way to RV and meet some of the members.

Hoosier Welcome :D

9 time out of 10 times its we that hold ourselves back. (facts made up to suit my point  ) Point is, a little common sense and a great adventure awaits. :D We have met some great people in the camp grounds.

Just this last weekend we enjoyed a camp fire with a new friend and shared a bottle of Winter Jack (apple cider liquor made by Jack Daniel's). Sitting around a camp fire with our coffee cups, sipping a way and telling stories, beats sitting at home any night.

Welcome Geordi :D Hey, if that "not so brave" dog of yours barks, no reason to be fearful at night! Go for it!
