Hello from SC

Postby scchic » Fri Oct 04, 2013 8:55 pm

Hi everyone! I have been reading all the posts, learned alot!

My new Winnebago Adventurer will be here next month. I was wondering how many of you drive these things? 38 feet is a little daunting to me. But.... Since mt husband knocked the gutters off the house with the last motorhome I am thinking well maybe I should try driving! I need to mention that he is 14 years younger than me and should be seeing a whole lot better than me!

What is the learning curve for driving these things?

Off to read more posts! So informative!

Welcome to the forum. Remember whatever size rig you want to drive...take a big breath, driving an RV is a learn-able skill. Large empty parking lots are great to build confidence! Practice, practice, practice and then head down the road! We love pictures....of rigs and travels....(but if you have read past post, you already figured that part out. :D )

Hosier Welcome :D

Space is your friend, you can't hit anything if there is nothing there  Seriously, when you drive try to keep a space cushion around you and if you are not sure when backing up, G.O.A.L. (Get Out And Look). When you see semi's and you look at the bottom of their west coast mirror (tall narrow mirror) you will often find a G.O.A.L. decal to remind the driver to get out an look when backing up.

Good luck and enjoy.

I looked up the 38Q, is that the right model? Nice looking coach and I love that it has a King bed, a fireplace, sofa AND recliner chair.
You will have many adventures. Learning to drive should be a must whether going alone (that one is obvious) or with a husband. I have a friend who "learned" to drive her 40 ft bus conversion as her husband took a turn for worse while they were on a trip and he lay in the back of the coach and later died (he had Mesothelioma). She let it sit a while, then decided, by golly he built this to my specs, I'm going to drive it. ANd she did for a good number of years, before she retired from her bus a year or so ago, in her 70's. You can do it!

Hi Velda! I loved the 38Q but I got the 37F because of the 2 bathrooms. I had 2 baths in the other MH and got use to having 2!

I also loved the idea the door is in the middle of the coach. It just feels better to me to have it there. There were many things I liked about the 37F but those are 2 of them.

I am seriously considering learning how to drive this MH! Can't wait for the delivery!

just want to say welcome, learning to drive a big motorhome is quite doable, but easy for me to say as I've driven a 40' schoolbus for
over 20 years. Empty parking lots and familiar roads are key to success :D Happy learning :D

Welcome. You'll do fine driving. Take it one day at a time. As to backing, agree about the get out and look - and do it as often as YOU need to ... do NOT rely on others unless you trust them implicitly. And that includes friends and family - seen many mishaps with couples guiding each other.

Welcome from SoCal! Great group here. I learned to drive on a 40ft diesel pusher, so yes, you can do it!

Hi Carolb, my name is Debbie, lol, sorry about that!

I would love to join everyone in florida, will read up on that today! I have to get the coach first and there is some talk about late Nov - late December. Apparently there are none of these out there at the moment and are on the production line. Once I get the MH, then I have to learn to drive it. Amazingly I am not frightened of it, yet! We have to have it delivered here as it is our busy season at our shop and on line. So I wont have the usual tell em what this is chat.. I am hoping I can pay someone that does know to drive it hear other than a transport driver.

I am learning so much here! Thanks to everyone! I am an avid cook, so I will try to post recipes too. What we use is a traeger wood pellet fired grill. We have one at home and one for the MH. Best thing I ever bought!

38 footer, Wow and I'm intimidated by my 26'! Just got 2014 Winnebago on July 5, 2013. Just joined this group. I've never driven an RV and it's a handful; driving for 3 months now. How is the weather in SC during the winter months? I'm in Maryland and cold, freezing weather is coming. Looking for a place not too far from Maryland as my family is here.

Hi Ethyl, the weather is chilly this week! Lows in the 50's! High during the day 70-80
Very windy Noreaster blowing right now. It is too cold for me! I want to head south LOL

I am going to learn to drive that thing when it comes. I scoped out a good parking lot last week end! Gosh, I just had the thought of parallel parking LOL I can not even do that in my SUV!

Hi sccshic,

Here in Maryland it snows and freezes. What part of SC is good that will not freeze up my pipes in RV? This is all so new to me. Is there an area in SC where RV's are wecome?
