new bus nut

Hello everyone. Just would like to introduce myself, my name is Janis and I'm a new bus nut and am starting a new chapter in my life. I'd love to find an old girl GMC Buffalo bus, the 4905 to be my accomplice on this journey. Id like to work and travel for awhile and look around for just that right spot in the sun. For the first time in my life I'm able to pursue this Bohemian lifestyle and am starting fresh at age 50.oh well, a late Bloomer, LOL.

I'd love to meet new friends here and keep in touch on the road. As soon as I get my bus I plan to pinstripe her and turn that into my mobile canvas and maybe make a go of it as an artist along the way.

we are a great bunch, thats for sure, you'll find lots of support and many opinions here.
Not sure what you mean by a 4905 bus, as I drive a schoolbus, thats what comes to mind
when someone says bus. Couple more years and I can hang the bus keys up and grab
keys for a class C. Can hardly wait. Where are you from?

Welcome to the forum....good luck in your search for a "bus". Are you able to do the mechanical stuff as well as the renovations? Cool I have heard folks refer to forums just for certain bus/vehicles....you might check there for specific info and maybe even availability of a used vehicle....

Hello again, and thank you so much for that wonderful welcome ! Thank you, I will just jump right in, I'm so excited about my bus shopping. I have actually found a couple of 4905's, although in the U.S. and I suppose with some legal beagle help I could get the rig brought over the border and through customs, but I'm going to continue looking here and snoop through Greyhound's graveyard for any forgotten old Buffaloes needing a new home. GMC originally was commissioned to build these buses for them back in the 60's. So, a vintage bus already, and much more in my price range.

Btw, I live in Langley, B.C. Canada, not that far from the Washington border. I'm weary of city and inland living and plan to head for the coast when I'm organized. I need to live by the ocean now. My house is up for sale and I'm hoping changes will happen sooner than later about that. I lived here for many years with my grandmother, as her caregiver, and our little Pomeranian, fiercest five pounds I've ever met. Within the last year and a half they have both passed on, my grandmother late in 2010 and Sparky two months ago. So, very strange state of affairs having no one and nothing to come home to or for. A fork in the road, and believe me, buying a bus came as a surprise to me too. Back-burnered childhood pastimes of building motorhomes with my wooden wagon and old refrigerator boxes has been revived, just on a bigger scale. I didn't have much time for dolls really as a kid. And it's funny my ex husband used to say it was never too late to have a good second childhood, the old boy was right I think, lol. He was terribly difficult to get along with though and I had to part with him, over twenty years ago now.

I guess I can't prattle on much longer without changing out of the Intro category, but I will add that I do like to do a few mechanical things and can swing a hammer, press, glue, paint, polish and spin spanners with the best of them and it's looking like I'll be getting more practice with that doing up the coach cabin myself to fit my needs. Nothing glamorous, just comfortable. I may end up starting with a shell only and work from there. I'd like my coach to be entirely electric except for that nice big Detroit diesel to push us along and a diesel generator. I've got some homework to do on solar power options too. I'm going to get set up for some boondocking excursions. A.K.A., frugal living. I also have a black belt in thrifty shopping and feel confident I'll be able to pull together a shabby chic decor. In fact, maybe even able to use some of the furnishings I currently have in my stick and brick house. I'm finding it a bit tough to part with some things and downsizing has been such a challenge because I'm fully qualified as a "pack-rat" and haven't thrown anything out for years. Wish me luck

Oh, and thank you about the bus conversion sites, yes, I have been haunting there too soaking up as much information about buses as possible. They are so extremely versatile and impressive beasts built to last. Good thing, as I plan to live onboard indefinitely, fulltime.
