Homemade Fire Logs

If anyone is interested in making their own fire logs and doesn't want to spend $$ on wood or worry about bringing wood across state lines, the Livewell network show Deals had a way to make your own fire logs. Kind of a nifty idea (to me) as long as you still read newspapers and have a place to store them.
Newspaper file logs
1. Collect your newspapers. A large pile from a week or two's reading should be a good start.
2. Fill a tub of water.
3. Roll newspaper tightly on a broom handle. When approximately 5" in diameter are reached, remove from the broom handle. Ends can be tied with string if needed.
4. Soak each log thoroughly in the tub of water.
5. Layout to dry.
6. Once thoroughly dry, the newspaper logs are ready for use. They should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated area
Cotton ball fire starter
Soak cotton ball completely with petroleum jelly. Store in container until use (sample was a small plastic camera film canister).
Flame will light almost immediately and be wind resistant (to some degree).
