Cherokee, NC

In August 2010, we stopped in Cherokee, NC for about three weeks. It was pretty much heaven on Earth for us with, of course, the exception being Glencoe in The Highlands of Scotland.

We did a lot of chilling out and exploring an area that was new for both of us. This park and area was special for me, as it is situated on Cherokee Land and run by Cherokee families. I had the honor of speaking occasionally with an Elder in the park and one night sat out alone by the fire at our site.

You'll find in my photos that you rarely see me, as I'm the one behind the lens . . .

Beautiful pictures, and I agree, Cherokee and all the Smoky Mountain areas are wonderful.

That area does make you slow down and be a little more at peace. I have been through that area twice now..... My daughter has tried to drowned us twice by having family come down and camp....and go whitewater kayaking with her. I survived but only because we took the "duckies" instead of the kayaks. Every where I travel I imagine what a cabin in the woods....beside the creek....along the lake would look like...... Since I don't have one of those my RV will serve that purpose.

I have been in that area a couple of times, but not in my RV. It is on my list to go back in my RV. I hope to stay for several weeks, maybe a few months when I retire.

I like Cherokee (was there a long time ago) because it is so less crazy than the north end of the national park where you can hardly drive more than 2 MPH. Much more peaceful.
