Desert Botanical - Chihully exhibit

Postby avalen » Mon Jan 19, 2009 1:44 pm

There were so many blown glass in this exhibit I could not get all the photos taken, my
batteries ran out for the second time, but I'll post a few of my favorites.
The Desert Botanical Gardens does have a website with the pieces displayed in a gallery.

this one was huge, like a tree

this one was in a big old rowboat, lots of those glass bouys too in that boat and some
were really big like beach balls, unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the boat from
the other side as my batteries died.

these reminded me of little icebergs and actually floated around a little, although I'm
sure they were anchored so they didn't float around too far

This was so unexpected, would never have dreamed blown glass would be in a garden with cactus. what a unique idea and so pretty !! Sure sorry, your batteries died, so glad you posted some of what you got though. Thats a place to visit for sure.

The colors are so pretty. What a job blowing all that glass though. Some are really big pieces and many of them. Beautiful place !!

I understand Chihully also has a permanent exhibit in Las Vegas at one of the casinos. He's fascinating isn't he. I believe his studio is in the Seattle area.

That looks like a really interesting place to walk around! I love botanical gardens.

These are so kewl. I hope you don't mind, but I merged all the threads on the Chihully exhibit. Didn't do them in the right order to get the title I wanted, but hopefully you'll forgive me :)

It's been years since I've been to those gardens, and this exhibit was not there then. I love the regular botanical gardens you showed, and these. Thanks!

thank you Beth, I was hoping you would merge them.
the guy is from Seattle Washington but currently he is staying here in the rv park
where I live, I haven't met him. His exhibit runs until the end of may I think, and
after that I don't know if that means they will take them out of the garden or leave
them. So many pretty colors and at night they are lit, the website shows some of
the night time pictures and it also tells a little about the artist.

Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for the pics, I would so love to see that in person but your pics are the next best thing! Is this just an exhibit or is it there all the time?

Oh my gosh - absolutely wonderful - Thank you so much. What an exciting thing to see. Can't say enough. I would hope they would leave them there. Will have to stop there if we go home that way. Again thank you.

I've never seen anything like it...especially in a botanical garden. Very colorful and unique. The straight ones look like candle/tapers.
