Flame Disc

Here is an alternative for charcoal for grilling. It is a round foil disc that fits in the bottom of your grill. Just light it and cook! I haven't tried it yet but it sounds like a great idea! They are clean, safe and disposable and only cost $5.

well now, that looks like a good invention. It might not burn long enough
for some foods though, 40 min? is that what it said? Would be great for
burgers and hot dogs though and kabobs. Large chicken pieces (breasts)
would take longer I think. Ok, now I'm getting hungry.
But it would certainly be easy cleanup! and thats my favorite part :D

SHUT UP, Vickie!

PS: I have no idea how I posted twice. Obviously I'm a Dufus. But you all already knew that.

Nice find, Dewfus! From what I've quickly read, it looks great for certain situations and worth keeping a few on hand.
I only saw them on Amazon for $15/3 pack.

I will order some to throw in the trailer. Cool.
Not bad, what with you being such such a huge Dewfus and all...

From Answer.com: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_ethanol_dangerous

Is ethanol dangerous?

Answer

Be advised that ethanol, or ethyl alcohol, is flammable. It is mildly toxic, too. But is probably most dangerous for the deleterious effects it produces when it is consumed. People ingest it, become intoxicated and act differently because of the changes that CH3CH2OH, C2H5OH causes to those who have imbibed.

It might make you more like Mitch and you'll become Dufus2 instead of Dewfus!

Gee, I wonder if you get slightly intoxicated from eating food cooked with it?? :o  Could be kind of fun!

Actually, it is the same stuff I put in my fireplace. Comes in little cans that I light and put behind the faux logs. They say it is safe for cooking marshmallows over, so it should be safe for cooking other food. Charcoal isn't all that safe from what I've read, especially if you use lighter fluid with it. It seems everything is toxic to one degree or another in this world!

Those look interesting. I bet they could be used in fire pits, too. I've been known to cook over the wood - but that would give a more even heat and be easier. I'm going to remember this post is here when I want to buy those. Can't wait for some of you to try them and give a review. Did you already purchase, Mitch?

Here is some info I found on-line about cooking with gel-fuel:

"Many people are cautious about cooking directly over a gel fuel's flame because of concerns about chemical emissions. However, this worry is unfounded. Gel fuels are odorless and the chemicals will not affect your food. Sterno is one of the most prominent brand name creators of gel fuel and, according to the company's website, cooking directly over the flame is perfectly safe in terms of chemical emissions. They do, however, caution against open flame cooking because drippings that can come from food cause flare-ups that can result in injury. You should also not eat food that has cooking fuel on it or that has fallen in the flame."

Not yet. Going to see if the Home Depot in Paducah has them on Tuesday. (according to the FlameDisk web site, KY Home Depots do not have them.)
But ya can just never take a web sites' word...
