Egg Boiler

Postby Bethers » Thu Feb 05, 2009 10:47 am

OK back on here Zeee talks about her Fasta Pasta. When I bought that (on Amazon, where I got the best price) they suggested I might be interested in an Egg Boiler. Well, I do boil quite a few eggs - and have sometimes forgotten I had them boiling. This one works in the microwave. Anyway - price was right (don't remember what - but was right lol) - and I added it to the order. Have still to use the Fasta Pasta - but have used this Egg Boiler at least a dozen times already and love it more each time.

It's by Nordic Ware - boils up to 4 eggs at a time in the microwave (can do soft, med or hard) - and works like a charm. I started it this morning and got on here - completely forgot about it - no problem - microwave shuts off when it's done. Easy, easy, easy.

Yes, I know, boiling eggs is not a hard job - but this makes my life even easier. OK, just went to Amazon and got the link to it - in case you're interested: Nordic Ware 64802 Microwave Egg CookerImage

No egg boiler here but I have one of the "Pasta and More" as seen on TV gadgets. It was a birthday gift which I did not use at first. Then got to looking at booklet that came with it. Directions for steaming all sorts of veggies in the microwave, even potatoes. It does a great job on everything I've tried so far. I would strongly recommend it to those who like steamed veggies and prefer microwave cooking over stove top. Think mine was purchased at Bed, Bath, and Beyond but know you can find them on-line.

I have a rice cooker for the microwave that I use to steam veggies all the time. Works wonderful on caluliflower.

I, too, have the Nordic Ware Rice cooker, which cooks, in addition to rice, potatoes, vegies, pasta, and whatever in the microwave. That egg cooker intrigues me, as eggs are on my diet, and I have been known to boil all the water out of a pan of eggs more than once! Waiting for water to boil is NOT one of my favorite things to do, nor is timing it once it does!

Do you put water in that egg boiler, Beth? It says you don't need to pierce the eggs, thank gawd, so I guess they don't explode, eh? I might have to consider this, along with a shower head that I can use in my tub while sitting in it!

Yes, you put water in it - but then you set your microwave for the proper cooking time, so it never will boil dry - and no, you don't need to pierce the eggs. Like I said, I love it - even though I was very confused with a very simple contraption the first time I used it LOL - Lid just sits on top, and I turned and turned trying to get it off .. duh. Oh, and it does get hot - so I use pot holders to take it out of the microwave and open it. Then use the pot holders to take the eggs out and set them in the sink and run cold water over them. Every egg I've done this way peels like a dream.

Sounds wonderful! I am going to order myself one of these pronto...I can use it all summer in the trailer, and all winter in here! I LOVE egg salad and deviled eggs, but can NEVER peel them, and I usually break them and get all that gooky stuff all over my pot and------ACK!!!

Thanks, Beth!

I read some of the reviews and it seems most are happy with the cooker, but others have problems with eggs exploding. It would be kind of exciting each time you use it to see if you'll get the exploding egg or not! :o

I've never had an egg explode with this - and have used it lots of times. I will guess those who do - have cooked them longer than they are supposed to. Just a guess on my part - from the person who just recently did explode a potato :)

BTW if an egg exploded in this, it would be completely inside the egg boiler, so shouldn't be a mess -

Good deal on that price, Karen!

Beth, I have used the Egg boiler several times...and yep it does do the job..in my Microwave it was exactly 8 minutes..and if I'm doing a big salad .. While I'm peeling my first 4 my second 4 is cookin...oh and no smell of eggs boiling over...Woooooo hoooooo...

Make sure you use pot holders on removing from the MicroWave..cause them suckers is hot... I then let cold water run over the whole big Egg LOL in which I dump the eggs out and into ice water..and start all over a gain...Uh oh ...a new toy....

God Bless

Zeee...and the edible egg LOL..

Glad you like it, Zeee.

A hint on peeling eggs - always crack and start peeling with the big end of the egg - that's where there's some space between the shell and egg. Makes it easier.

Beth, now I'm only quoting from the reviews, but those who did explode eggs say that it's extremely hard to get all the egg mess removed. Not sure why this would be. Are they just poor dishwashers!?

I think they didn't follow the rules to begin with - probably thought if they cooked them longer, they'd be harder boiled? Just my guess. Like, Zeee, I cook mine 8 minutes - always done. And when I do a new batch, I use fresh cold water - do not put it back in hot with the hot water in it.

Course, it could happen, just like I exploded a tater the other day - but I'm pretty sure that was my fault also.

I also just bought a 19" flat screen. The complaints on it are that it doesn't have loud enough volume. Guess what, it's not as loud as other tv's - but it's not meant for big rooms. And it's loud enough for me with my hearing aids in - so I figure it's a good thing - I can't turn it up too loud by mistake when my hearing aids are out :)

I have had the unpleasant experience (many years ago) of exploding an egg in the microwave. It becomes like glue on the walls of microwave and can be very difficult to clean off anything it hits. Then someone shared the trick of putting a bowl of water in the microwave to help steam it off. It did help but still a pain to clean.
