Good Morning All! Blueberry coffee on again this morning, but pistachio muffins are all gone!!! Sob!
Thanks to all who tried to inform me about abbreviations, but I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER stoop to trying to communicate (as in text messaging) using those grammatical abbreviations! It is an affront to the English language that is making grammar, spelling, and proper use of the English language obsolete! Students at school are forgetting how to make written communication interesting, informative, and unique. As a former English teacher, it really sets my teeth on edge to read how they write to each other in emails now! Our English teaching department is shocked at how essays are being written, or at the attempts to write essays.
The abbreviations I was referring to are the usual, like the states, certain geographical locations, such as federal parks, or state parks....terms that may be used on maps, for instance. I feel as if I should know those. As far as things like LOL, DIL, and all those assinine text abbreviations, most of which came into existence because time and money requires it if you plan to text someone instead of talk or actually WRITE (heaven forbid!) a letter to someone-----I don't care if I EVER understand those, nor do I plan to ever waste my time attempting to learn what in heck someone who uses those in all messages is trying to tell me. Sorry, ladies....this is a THING with me, that, as a teacher, I am finding an attrocity in our language. I rank this right up there with trying to talk with a 'service provider' on the phone whose native language is Hindu and who has had maybe ONE lesson in English!
But I do appreciate the responses in Thursday's breakfast message. I also suspect I should have put this message in the general topic heading rather than this good morning one.....but I find I have time for just one message each morning, and it's usually this one I come to first. I will try to go to general from now on, perhaps, and let others do the good morning thing, especially if I am full of pee and vinegar about something!
For now, however, Happy Friday, you all, and hope your day is a fun one! It's an oddly warm 44 degrees out there this morning, with light rain. It is jeans day for our faculty, and we will have our contributions for the privilege of wearing them go to Locks of Love this week!
Now, having had my rant, please don't feel guilty using any language you want in your messages....this is just my 'thing' and most people have no problem with today's 'shortened' communications! Just please don't expect me to understand them or respond in a like manner!
'Til later.....off I go!
P. S. I wish there were a spell-checker on here as I often make typos or real spelling errors that embarrass me! ("Attrocity doesn't look quite right---is it atrocity---nope, that looks wrong, too!)

Goooood Morning Sistahs!!!
Yep it's Friday. Suppose to be our day off but of course it's mandatory to work at least 4hrs today. Was gonna go in at 9 and work til 1 but Kelly had planned to meet another woman we work with at a hair extension place in town. So it's up at 5:30 just like a regular day. And I did get up at 5:30 too! Got my shower and I've been swilling coffee. Ahhhhhhhhh I feel human again! HA
Soos don't feel bad about the abbreviations. It's not that we can't spell them it's more or less just simple expediency and tedious repetition. At work I am constantly trying to find ways to shorten a work because it takes so long to type stuff out in our puter notes and the bosses get after us for taking to long. Most of the time it's a simple case of just dropping the vowels. But I've been doing that for a very long time. We use Qal-Comm satellite computers in the trucks and they charge for every letter, space and punctuation mark. So we shorten everything up. But not all is lost. When I do write a letter or card to send to someone. I write each word out. The worse part is that there is no spell check when your hand writing only a dictionary.
Ok Kelly is now showered and getting dressed. She's getting around early?? I can just about guarantee that she is gonna come out of her bedroom telling me to get a move on cause she wants to stop and get breakfast! Dang kid.
Hope everyone has a super great day and be sure to stay safe.
Love to all
ps. did ya'll do your clicks this morning for breast cancer and animal rescue????

Blessed Friday to all. Carol and I are in Alabama, and should arrive at Carol's house in NC today. Not good traveling weather though...heavy fog this morning followed by showers moving in this afternoon. Tomorrow I'll drive home to FL as I promised my church group I'd be back for Sunday services. We're staying at Nocolusa Falls State Park, where we stayed before during our "Alabama" tour. It's a nice park with a pioneer village to tour and of course, the waterfall. In March when we were here before the park was filled with blooming azaleas and dogwood...very beautiful. This time it was just an overnight stop.
Have a safe day.

Good morning all !
It's dark so I don't know what the day will bring but I did see some stars in the sky so maybe we'll have another blue day in Oregon - Yippee
I'm planning on going down to Old Town today - there's a toy store there that has a Groovy Girls doll my niece would like for Christmas so I think I'd better get it now - I'd feel bad if I waited and it was gone. Besides, it's a chance to shop !!!
Just a comment on language - I think it changes and lots of times that's OK - if it didn't, we'd all be saying "verily I say onto thee" and stuff like that ! I do agree that we're loosing the art of letter writing, and that's sort of a sad thing, but without computers we wouldn't have the forum and I wouldn't have met all of you, so there's good and bad to most all things.
Have a great day !!!

Good Morning, Good Morning.
Trudy, I think you hit the nail on the head with your response on abbreviations. I actually like these much better than the shorthand I learned many, many moons ago and have completely (almost) forgotten. But without these types of abbreviating, we'd have less time for each other - and I love the time I get to spend with you all here.
I have today off - have gone on a long walk, then Peaches and I hopped on a golf cart with a couple here and their 2 dogs to take a ride - and now home to work on my websites. I really feel lazy, though - and today is probably the only nice day of my 3 day weekend (well, nice - little wind, no rain and warm) so I might just have to work very little and play very much
As in - I think I might go take a book to the pool area this afternoon. Ahhh
Oh, I'm also dog sitting today for 2 other people's dogs. I don't have the dogs at my place, but Peaches and I will go visit them a few times each today to let them out, walk them, and just keep them company for a bit. Their parents are off to Mexico for the day.
Have a great day all!

I use abbreviations on the computer-------
But I still do lots of letter writing---------also--------------
About 35 year ago I owned a beauty salon & one of my "regulars" who I did her shampoo & set back then each week------ Vera was in her 90's then-------- & one day she said------I want you to do a favor for me-------And she asked me to take over her "card ministry" for her-------- she said I took over this ministry about 40 years ago from an older friend & now I want to pass it on to you to keep up & when you are no longer able to do it I want you to pass it on to some one else!!!
She explained to me that she sent a "positive card" to some one each week--------or more than one card----- it was either a birthday card or a get well card or a congratulations card or a thinking of you card-----but it had to be a card with a note in it-----with encouragement for that person!!!!
I took on her "card ministry" & have been doing it for around 35 years now!
I try to send letters in each card-------& many I send to older people who are shut in's or to young people to tell them how happy I am with their accomplishments------- etc.etc--------
But now in this day & age of computers------ I have extended the "card ministry" to also "e-mail ministry"------I send an e-mail once a week------ to over 9 care home activity directors who read the e-mail to several who are living in the care homes who know me----from me donating time to those care homes when we lived in those areas---------& with just news & uplifting things for them to enjoy!
I also have over 350 people who live alone who have their own computers-------& have MCS (multi chemical sensitivity) & are living in their "safe Homes" totally chemical & fragrance free----& are not able to go out into the public a lot if at all with all the chemicals & fragrances & scented products "the outside world" thinks they have to use!!!!!!! I knock on their e-mail doors each week & say how ya doing--------& let them tell me what ever they need to say to some one!!!!!!!!
I pass on encouragement & a scripture & hopefully a smile or laugh for them also!!!!!!!
I have talked to many different small clubs in rural areas over the years about a "Card Ministry"-- & many clubs have taken up card ministries for their service work also!!!!!!!
Several garden clubs I have talked to-- have not only taken us a card ministry -but also a flower ministry-------they deliver cards & flowers to care homes & shut in's in their areas!!!!!!!!
Blessings to each of you-------- OO

I think many of you have expressed why we use abbreviations. But the best explanation I heard was in school recently. The College Prep class is held in the computer lab,... taught jointly by an English teacher and a business teacher. In coaching these highschool seniors in how to write their college essays they explained as follows: we have "casual" speech and writing and "formal" speech and writing. Casual is just dandy when we are emailing, texting, chatting with friends in modern society,... and i will add, writing here on forums. Formal is what is appropriate for essays, formal letters, news articles, etc. when correct language and grammer is indicated.
I seldom use capital letters now that i'm no longer in the business world. it's not that I don't know how to use language correctly, it's just quicker. it's ......casual!
But as we celebrate our diversity here we know that there is no right and wrong to how each of us think,...

As Cedar says, I agree....certainly no right or wrong. Just preferences.
And, so far, I haven't seen where messages on any of these posts in here look like text messages, or online chat groups where no sentences are ever spoken! I love the way you all write on here, in fact. And I will definitely shutup from now on about any abbreviations you all might enjoy using. It matters not to me if I understand them any more, or not. As long as the majority of you know what's going on, that's all that counts! I confess to being the odd one!! Always have been, and always will be, I guess! My strict upbringing and training in English has left me very jaded, I fear. A text messager I shall never be...it's not in me to do it!
Thanks for putting up with my morning tirade....I was thinking about the English language (I call it abuse, most call it adaptations) all night, actually.....not just because of abbreviations on here, which are very few, but because of what kids are doing in school now. I guess it's definitely time for me to retire before I become so neurotic I can't function!!
Carry on, y'all!

I'm a little late on this one, but wanted to mention my reason for using some abbreviations, it's really very simple and all about respecting privacy, so I don't use my family or friend's names on forums.
And, by the way, I too love the English language, that's why I am such an avid reader. Sorry to say though, I don't have the way with words of so many on the forum and in their blogs.
p.s. My latest read is Anita Shreve's "Eden Close". Very excellent writing.
