Good Morning All! Blueberry coffee on again this morning, but pistachio muffins are all gone!!! Sob!
Thanks to all who tried to inform me about abbreviations, but I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER stoop to trying to communicate (as in text messaging) using those grammatical abbreviations! It is an affront to the English language that is making grammar, spelling, and proper use of the English language obsolete! Students at school are forgetting how to make written communication interesting, informative, and unique. As a former English teacher, it really sets my teeth on edge to read how they write to each other in emails now! Our English teaching department is shocked at how essays are being written, or at the attempts to write essays.
The abbreviations I was referring to are the usual, like the states, certain geographical locations, such as federal parks, or state parks....terms that may be used on maps, for instance. I feel as if I should know those. As far as things like LOL, DIL, and all those assinine text abbreviations, most of which came into existence because time and money requires it if you plan to text someone instead of talk or actually WRITE (heaven forbid!) a letter to someone-----I don't care if I EVER understand those, nor do I plan to ever waste my time attempting to learn what in heck someone who uses those in all messages is trying to tell me. Sorry, ladies....this is a THING with me, that, as a teacher, I am finding an attrocity in our language. I rank this right up there with trying to talk with a 'service provider' on the phone whose native language is Hindu and who has had maybe ONE lesson in English!
But I do appreciate the responses in Thursday's breakfast message. I also suspect I should have put this message in the general topic heading rather than this good morning one.....but I find I have time for just one message each morning, and it's usually this one I come to first. I will try to go to general from now on, perhaps, and let others do the good morning thing, especially if I am full of pee and vinegar about something!
For now, however, Happy Friday, you all, and hope your day is a fun one! It's an oddly warm 44 degrees out there this morning, with light rain. It is jeans day for our faculty, and we will have our contributions for the privilege of wearing them go to Locks of Love this week!
Now, having had my rant, please don't feel guilty using any language you want in your messages....this is just my 'thing' and most people have no problem with today's 'shortened' communications! Just please don't expect me to understand them or respond in a like manner!
'Til later.....off I go!
P. S. I wish there were a spell-checker on here as I often make typos or real spelling errors that embarrass me! ("Attrocity doesn't look quite right---is it atrocity---nope, that looks wrong, too!)
