Good morning all! Glad to hear y'all share stories of holidays past & stories of plans for this year. Lifting my spirits; thanks all ...Now, I'm really awake too early this morning! It was stil Sat. for those on the west coast!! Accomplished some howse cleaning yesterday even before the son rose, which gave me time later in the day to sit in the yard & enjoy the perfect weather! This morning, I'll get to Walmart--I call it my "Ch-rch of Capitalism," as it's become a habit for me to shop there early on Sonday mornings. May even get there before daylight this morning! Going to take my HarBor for a spin today--keep the engine working properly. YIKES, I read last night that the water heater holds water even when the fresh water tank/lines are emptied! Needs to be drained before extreme cold & I didn't do that!!! & we've had temps in the 20s/teens all week G'grief, hope I don't have to pay the price for doing my own winterizing!!! Hi Carolb & everyone who follows...
I've been awake since 3 - not too unusual, but decided to go ahead & start my day now that it's after 5. Putting on some coffee...
I finally gave in & put my mega van in storage last week - found great RV/boat storage in underground caves. They even start the vehicles & generators monthly to keep everything in good order. I, too, did my own winterizing so I'm kind of glad that I don't need to worry about how good of a job I've done. I miss having it close at hand more than I thought I would, but will sleep better once the temps drop more drastically.
Having a pre-Thanksgiving peanut brittle making get-together with all my sibs & their families this afternoon. Should be lots of laughter, food & the usual chaos as we continue to feel our way thru the holidays without Mom telling us what to do. We used to practically roll on the floor with laughter as she dictated everything little thing. The key was to keep her out of the kitchen so we could tend to everything - the joke was on us last year though when we found more cranberry salad in the fridge as we were cleaning up. Any tears shed today will be those of extreme laughter as we know she'll make her presence known while we fumble our way through making peanut brittle for the first time on our own. (Mind you, we are all grown adults with children, & grandchildren of our own - thus the riotous laughter when we are treated like 5 year olds again)
Back to winterizing - I've never read anything that you have to do extra to the hot water heater to try & get all the water out of it - as long as you drained it, you should be ok (I hope) - maybe you can ask in the tech area about this.
Hope everyone enjoys their day - traveling, resting, preparing, remembering... So glad we're not alone & have each other here.

Up here early in middle TX...3:30am Central Time...have had my coffee, walked Spinner in the dark with a flashlight, played my games, and now, I'm going back to bed for awhile....will check back later...

Good morning everyone. Made myself heuvos rancheros for breakfast. Now sipping coffee, watching TV while looking at recipes. I have been assigned to bring a pecan pie and dressing. We have 17 pecan trees, so I will go grab pecans when it gets warmer. We are going to a memorial service this afternoon for the wife of one of DHs colleagues from work. I feel funny going because I don't know any of the people or the deceased. DH is so hard to "read". Don't know if he wants me to go with him or not. Then we have tickets to go see Bill Cosby tonight. So I'm gonna start pulling myself together....do hair, find a dress, etc. Hope everyone have a great day and stay safe if you are on the road. Aloha

Good Morning coffee is good have a muffin but it does not taste good it is dry as a bone and to think I just bought it yesterday... oh well such is life...
We continue with our mild weather...
Didn't accomplish much yesterday other than getting lunch for Tim's house doing a bit of grocery shopping and cleaning up the dishes then ruminating about many things... I can assure everyone that I am not a loser but a fighter so will do what I can and more!

made a run to publix ...got beef roast to put in crock pot...with ounion soup
mix...then add cooked noodles later...mmmm good over mashed tata's
there is an art show just down the road...would like to go..if dad gets out
in time...other than that nothing till tomorrow...

Good morning! I have a fresh pot of java and some caramel rolls in the oven and a batch of King Hawaiian bread mixing. My two bread machines have been getting a work out since yesterday. I’m getting off easy for Thanksgiving…the green bean casserole, Dream Potatoes and buns. Christmas is at our house so I’ll have to make up for it then!

Yesterday I found out that one of our friend’s dad passed away. I called Lisa and asked if I could help in anyway. She told me the family is gathering at their house late this afternoon and Mike (it’s his father who died) is smoking brisket and a pork loin today. Mike loves my Dill Buns so Lisa suggested making them for the sandwiches. Mike heard Lisa’s end of the conversation and I heard him say “NO…tell her I want her deviled eggs!” So I made four dozen buns yesterday and will make the eggs today.

Catherine, your stories of your mom supervising the kitchen make me laugh. My mom had a hysterectomy shortly before Thanksgiving one year. So I was in charge of making Thanksgiving dinner at their house. As many of you know I taught FACS for 23 years. That year I had just walked my students in Advanced Foods through making an entire Thanksgiving meal for the school board before their November meeting. (PR for the department) So I wasn’t exactly a rookie in the kitchen. By the time I had finished making the meal at their house I was ready to stuff the turkey down her throat! She had been barking orders and questioning my every move from the bedroom all day. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I swept the kitchen floor and she asked me what I did with the dirt. Which I replied “I swept it under the rug and you can take care of it later.” My dad was sitting at the kitchen table and told her that she had asked for that one. She was a more congenial the rest of the day.

Oh yes…the water heater does need to be drained.

Well caramel rolls are just about done get them out of the oven and on a sheet before the caramel is all stuck to the bottom of the pan.

I had the best day yesterday! I was invited to see two 13-foot vintage fiberglass trailers. They were great -- even better than I had hoped they would be! I'll be looking for one of those when we're done with probate.

Got up later than normal this morning. Guess I was really tired yesterday. Took a good nap, so around 11 last night I got in the bed with dry cereal to snack on. I like a bowl of cereal before I go to bed, but don't have any milk until I go to store today. Started watching TV. From what I can estimate, I was asleep in less than 10 minutes. Woke up at 3 with the light still on by the bed, the cereal bag on the bed and my glasses nowhere to be found. I did find them this morning. They were under the covers beside Belle. I guess she pushed them when she went under the covers after I fell asleep.

Going to the grocery store today. Have my menu planned and my shopping list in my iPhone. Don't plan on doing anything in a hurry today or for that matter, any day this week.

Just saw your post, Louise. Looking forward to seeing what you decide on.

good morning ladies
been researching and starting somewhat of an itinerary for my first trip after I retire. Granted thats still over a year away but by now you should know
I like to plan ahead and my first loop will take me into Texas, Oklahoma, NM and back home. The research has been fun. I really want to get acquainted
with Texas because its SO big and it can't be avoided if my next trip takes me farther east like Lousianna and then onto Florida.
Housework is all done and today is a day to do a long soak in a hot tub and do my hair. Not really fun but it has to happen. Will run to Frys to load the electric
card for the week, that seems to be my job in this house cause I never want to run out.
Still watching for a post from Joan, hope she is ok.
Off to catch up on a few more posts then run the bath. Ya'll have a great day.

Good Morning,

After some chores yesterday, we went for a RZR (ATV) ride to couple of my favorite areas. Now today it is back to cleaning the 5er and emptying the basement. I will call the guy in Quartzsite again tomorrow to have him come look at the 5er. He has already told me what he would probably pay and while it isn't nearly enough, I wouldn't have to deal with it anymore.

Maybe someday I will get to organize the camper! I did finally get to wash the sheets yesterday so HAD to find the entire bed! LeRoy cut an opening for the usable space above the bedroom closet. My few DVDs fit with lots of room to spare!

We had just moved to Washington State from Kansas before Thanksgiving one year. My grandmother came with us to stay a few months as my brother was 1 and my mother was very pregnant (I was 10). My mother and grandmother were both wonderful cooks, but before they had dinner ready, my mother went into labor so my sister was born on Thanksgiving. We had a Thanksgiving a few days late In Washington we had no family so it was quite different from Kansas where we always had family get togethers for the holidays.

Coffee is gone so time to get movin'. Have a wonderful day.

It's Sunday already? Hard to keep track of time when you are doing nothing and don't have to be any where.
Good Morning to All from a cool, breezy and cloudy beach in Mexico. We are the only people in the RV park and where did the kids last night decide to party - why right in front of us of course. And they loved doing donuts on their ATVs.....
Didn't do much yesterday - just went into town to the grocery store. They are selling live Christmas trees already. Sure smell good.
Today I think there is a farmers market in town - we'll drive in later to see.
Bought a couple of different kinds of Mexican pastries and lots of just made tortillas. Also a fresh pot of coffee. Got lucky with it - I slid the pot in wrong and the coffee was going all over the place glad I noticed it right away. Need to watch that in the future.

Good morning all from the left cost...

I had to add my two cents here about mom's directing traffic. I'm lucky in that my mom is still with us and doing well. But she's also the cop of the kitchen. Years ago she badly broke her ankle and was in bed for the most of six weeks. I was in VA and was able to fly home right after the surgery. She had a wheel chair but was supposed to stay in bed mostly. So I'm in the kitchen making dinner, and here comes Mom rolling out. She's gonna make the gravy. But, Mom, I can make the gravy, really. I do it all the time. No, you probably don't make it right! So she pushes toward the stove, but the chair can't get close enough. Well, mom says she will let me do it, but she's going to supervise. She asks, what would we do if YOU ruin the gravy? I say, I guess you'd have to eat it anyway or go without! I got a dirty look. My dear mom is a bit OCD...she bleaches down the kitchen twice a day...she has cleaning clothes that she wears to do the biweekly "good cleaning"! Laundry is done on Mondays, although she now does sheets on Tuesday. There is the hot, bleached load, the warm light colors load, the dark load, and the jeans load. Bless her heart, minus the skirts and heels, my mom is the epitome of the classic 50s wife who will be running the show from heaven one day. And bless my dad who's been directed for 60 years come March. All my young life I wondered how my dad managed to navigate B-52s at work, but had to be told how to make a salad each time! But despite all that, I saw true love when we went to see my dad after he had surgery to repair three aneurysms last month. His survival was/is miraculous (sp?)...and Daddy is still pretty well under the influence of the anesthesia, but he sees my mom, smiles, reaches out for her hand...they both are pretty non-demonstrative with affection in public, but the sweet kisses and the "I love yous" were indicative that the traffic cop and the directed driver still adore each other! Mom will be directing us forever...and we understand we are lucky to have her doing so!!

And today is my younger son's birthday. He is 31. And my grandson (son of older son) turns 6 today. Busy November.
