Morning everyone. Woke early so I could have a couple cups of coffee before breaking camp to head for Livingston and the Boot Camp. Cannot wait to see Red again and meet Ellen. From what everyone said at the GTG, we are all going to be really busy at the Boot Camp. Plan on taking the driving course and having my rig weighed also. Since today's trip will be about 260 miles, that will be the furthest distance I have driven in a day so far. Birdie came over yesterday and was kind enough to help me route this trip so I will not be driving anywhere near Houston traffic. Just have about 30 minutes, then have to hit the ground running to get everything stowed away. We want to be on the road around 9:00. That will put us in Livingston somewhere around 3:00 depending on the roads. Hoping I can get my propane tank refilled when we get to Livingston. I figure with Escapees there, I should be able to. Will also have to do my menu plan tonight and do my grocery shopping tomorrow or Friday morning. Going to put pork country ribs in crockpot to be cooking as we drive to Livingston. Put the crockpot in the sink and when we get there, meal is hot and ready when we are. This is a trick I learned from Zeee.

Have been wondering about Joan and how she did with her surgery yesterday. I need to catch up on the posts tonight to see if there is anything posted.

Well, I had better get my rear in gear. Hope everyone has a great day and if you are traveling, stay safe.

Wed, disappearing posts!

Carol, two of you started morning posts almost simultaneously. They get merged and the one they was first timewise, becomes the start. Like today, and yours became 2nd by only a minute or two.

Good Morning... I have a question... how do you cook things while you are traveling... do you draw power from your house battery? I thought you had to be hooked up to use the outlets...
Yesterday was very busy... I got my voting done and did some shopping... I got a modem and router... beings I am not going to be gone I will use cable internet... it is less expensive than Verizon... and you get 250 GB a month where with Verizon you get 5 GB... now that makes no sense to me at all...
Drive safe Dawn and enjoy the training... so many exciting thing are happening in your first few months... Red take care and glad the stitches are coming out...
Have a great day everyone...
Kathleen
GM Carol I didn't see you must have been because Beth was combining the thread when I came on...

Good morning all. I see a beautiful day outside in Ala. Don't know what that temp is supposed to get to, but I see SUN. My energy and mood are really affected by sun or lack of. Yesterday I just drug around. Am going to wait awhile and see if the company calls about coming to fix my kitchen countertop which cracked. Its a manmade solid surface and it just cracked after being in about six years. Its under warranty they are making the arrangements to fix it. Not sure how they are going to fix it. Dawn, I can't resist. You are going to get your rig weighed??? With all that stuff in it?? HeIve been teasing her about all the kitchen stuff and craft stuff! Id better stop or she may not cook me anything!!!! Ya'll have FUN today. Wendy

guess great minds think alike and 'together' too.
Well no more speeches, what are we going to do without all the pre election hullabaloo...get back to old normal I guess.
Tex GTG is now over and some of the girls are off to Boot Camp. I am anxious to hear from them on Boot Camp. I will someday make one and they can give me a heads up on what to expect.
Dawn, I wondered about cooking while traveling too. That will be a good dinner when you arrive. Do you cook for all of you? You are certainly a busy gal. How are you feeling now? Is mom still improving?
I hope we hear something about Joan soon. I know they do surgery on the heart all the time but her problem sounds more serious than a bypass. Maybe one of you nurses can enlighten us.
Red, I'm so glad you got in to Boot Camp. Re mattresses; the most comfortable mattress I ever slept on was from Camping World. My ex and I had it when we had the motor home. He was a big guy and loved it too. I noticed they still have them but not sure if it comes in Kingsize. They are in a roll, you just unpack it and it slowly takes shape. I wish I had one again. I bought the best topper at WM and I'm not that crazy about it but sometime soon I'll probably give the topper and existing mattress to a friend and get the CW mattress.
Kathleen, are you not going to travel anymore? Is it your knees?
Soos should be nearing her destination or at least getting into warmer weather.
Irmi and Steve are working hard getting their home restored. It's evident in her posts that she and Steve are a real team...the task is daunting no doubt but the couple tackling it are awesome...
Wendy, you beat me to the punch...hope they get the countertop fixed soon, send a pic

Kath, you can use your gas stove (and oven if you have it). And you can turn on your genie to use your microwave. If you have enough batteries and solar you can even use your microwave with those - but you have to really know.

I have done this before on a long traveling day and I just put stuff in the crockpot. start the generator, plug in my crockpot, and put it in the sink so no spills on those curves and quick stops. Wonderful meal already to eat when I get set up.

I used to plug a small inverter into my dash and cook in the crockpot on the passenger floor! I made sure I had it so it couldn't fall over, but let me warn you - it's hard to drive with the smells right next to you all day!

Wondering if running the gen is very cost effective vs using an inverter?

Inverter would be most cost effective - as in NO cost other than the purchase of the inverter. Now I have a 12 volt outlet near my sink - could plug into that outlet while traveling for the crock pot. But was so used to using the one up front, probably still would. Habits :)

Hi ladies!

I tried posting earlier this morning, but we have a slow connection where we are staying, but we're grateful to be plugged into a 30 amp service while we're cleaning the house.

Dawn and for those of you going to the Boot Camp, have a great time, and let us know what you learned.

I hope everyone has a safe trip home from the Texas GTG

By turning on the genny and placing the crockpot in the sink, I have prepared many dinners so we would have a hot meal after a long day's drive. We burn maybe a gallon of gas an hour, using the generator, but it's a convenience not having to worry about preparing a meal after being on the road for hours on end.

We just returned to the motorhome after being at the house for a few more hours. Steve dry vac'd the rugs once again and we have a ceramic heater on the floor of the glassed in back porch, which is where we spend most of our time. Yesterday I took all the Corning Ware out of the drawer on the bottom of the stove and washed everything and put it back after cleaning the drawer, which was full of water. The freezer and refrigerator in the utility are still working and our stove is working. The refrigerator in the kitchen is running but not cooling. The insurance adjuster came by yesterday and is going to give us an estimate to replace the ceilings in the kitchen, glassed in porch and utility room. We apparently had water coming in from somewhere upstairs and the wallpaper is sagging, and it looks like that will be covered, too. Damage to the floors and appliances is on us since we don't have flood insurance, but we are grateful for whatever help we can get.

For those on the east coast being hit by the n'oreaster, please be careful. Liz, I'm so sorry about the cat. Soos, safe travels. Everyone else, my heart and thoughts are with all of you.

Has anyone used a 12v crock pot?? A trucker friend used one all the time. I used 12v appliances on the boat a lot. They work on the house batteries that are being charged while driving or when connected to shore power.

Here's one by Roadpro at Amazon

I thought about a.12 volt crockpot, but had other uses for the inverter from 12 volt, so was a much better deal to purchase that. And I only have so much room.
