Happy Halloween I mean the good old fashion one, when it was safe to dress as scare crows or black cats & walk the streets to "scare" yore neighbors, simply to get a sweet treat! Those were the days. For those who don't "believe," Happy All Saints Day? Isn't that what it is??? Well, it was good to hear that y'all stayed safe while Sandy raged.
Sorry abowt yore home, Irmi Be safe trying to get back to MD. Soos will need a "road" report so she can get back to FL. All that snow in VA! Anybody down that way??? I'm off to school today--first graders! That'll be a blast with all the excited kids Will get a bag of candy on the way home. In the past years, I've had not more than 15-20 kids come by, since not many people keep their lights on as a sign they welcome the little ghosts & goblins at their door. Thot of not doing it this year, yet so many memories of my childhood, that I gotta keep the tradition going! I do admit that home or "mall" parties are safer these days. TX GTG! Good morning all. My good news: lab results are negative. I can cross that cancer of my list Getting ready to leave tomorrow for TX gtg. First trip in our RV. Excited? Yep. Watching all the devastation that Sandy left behind. I think this one is a record breaker. It seems like there is a "storm of the century" every other year these days.


Today is Halloween. Have a fun, safe and happy Halloween. All the kids running around on a sugar high!! Just a little info re: Halloween and All Saints Day.

All Saints' Day (in the Roman Catholic Church officially the Solemnity of All Saints and also called All Hallows or Hallowmas), often shortened to All Saints, is a solemnity celebrated on 1 November by parts of Western Christianity in honour of all the saints, known and unknown. In the Western calendar it is the day after Halloween and the day before All Souls' Day.

Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of "All Hallows' Evening") also known as All Hallows' Eve, is a yearly celebration observed in a number of countries on October 31, the eve of the Western Christian feast of All Hallows (or All Saints). According to many scholars, it was originally influenced by western European harvest festivals and festivals of the dead with possible pagan roots, particularly the Celtic Samhain. Others maintain that it originated independently of Samhain and has Christian roots.

Good Morning Carolb and all,

Not much happening at the 45th here this morning. Had a little sprtiz of snow last night but was gone when I got up this morning. Sassy has her medication and I have my breakfast, so all's well with the world here.

So heartwretching to watch the devestation from Sandy. Especially along the Jersey coast and in the Queens area of New York. All those homes burned to the ground, the boardwalk gone, homes buried in sand, many feet deep etc. Loved the picture of the big tanker that floated up in Manhatten though and is now sitting on dry land while they figure out how to get it back to water!

Irmi and Steve, I'm so sorry about your lovely home being flooded again. I know you are facing cleaning up another mess when you get home after all the work you did cleaning up from Irene. Hopefully maybe it will go easier this year. Please know that the prayers of all of us on this forum are with you as you journey home from NC. How did your parents fare? They live near you don't they?

I too remember the nights running from door to door on Halloween, watching the neighbors trying to figure out who you were and passing out whatever goodies they had to give. Then as I got older, I took the neighbors kids out so the parents could stay home and pass out candy themselves. Up here in northern Michigan, we don't do much of that out here in the country. The roads are dark and homes spread out. Most chidren and their parents head to the towns to go up and down the streets and many like Carolb said, will go to parties such as my neighbors church is having tonight. They usually have 6-700 people there every year.

Red, you posted just before I did and I'm so glad to hear your test results came back negative. Yea! Now you can pack that rig and head for the GTG. Have loads of fun. And you described All Hallow's Even and All Saint's Day beautifully. That's exactly the scope of it.

We arrived at Canyon Lake yesterday afternoon. I sure need more practice on backing my MH into a site. I kept turning the wheel the wrong way. With Paul's help finally got it backed in and parked. My list of thing for the dealership to fix got a little longer. When we got here, the wind caught the door as I opened it and the little rod at the top of the door came loose. Could not close the door to the rig until Paul reconnected it. It is not staying connected unless you open the door very carefully. I did find out I can stand on the top stair of the rig inside and reach it so I just reconnect it every time it pops off again. Also had one of the plastic catches on one of my bedroom drawers break before we left Burnet, so just used the tie from my bathrobe. So classy looking. When we got here and I was getting us set up again, my hard drive tower won't turn back on. Hoping Paul can fix it today. I've tried doing hard start, unplugging and plugging back in. Nothing.

Colleen and Birdie made hamburgers for everyone last night. It was great getting to meet them, Judy and Martha. Also met a lady named Gloria. There were several other ladies there, but did not catch their names. Hope to today. We had a great time last night. Cannot wait to see who comes in today.

For everyone dealing with the after effects of Sandy, my prayers are with you. For anyone traveling today, stay safe.

Dawn - you want a show in backing in, just be by my site tomorrow afternoon. It always takes me a little while to get it right. It's slowly getting better and once I remember to put my hands on the bottom of the steering wheel, it gets a lot better. I will be glad when it truly is second nature.

I'm looking forward to the trip to Canyon Lake tomorrow. That's one of my favorite areas in TX. I have such good memories of being on the lake and tubing the Guadalupe downstream of the lake.

I don't know if I'm going to stop and get candy tonight. I really need to be packing the trailer and truck and won't get home until dark-thirty anyway. Of course, packing the trailer and truck, I will be interrupted by the little darlin's anyway.

We seldom get any trick or treaters any more, I think there are so many other sponsored things it's not done much. I'm just as glad, drives the dogs crazy! Everyone will be dressed up in town today so will look forward to that, of course living in a university town you see 'costumes' just about every day!

Tina took a detour and stopped to see me, no recorded moments but I really enjoyed her visit!!

Beautiful day here so best get with it, company coming for lunch and to see Toby he isn't doing much better with his manners but we are trying hard.

Great news, Red - now go enjoy the GTG!

Dawn, I am used to backing 5er with hand on bottom of steering wheel, but I think with MH if you put hand on top of steering wheel and turn in the direction you want the back of the MH to go. Should be just like backing car or truck. Those with MH can give better advice I'm sure.

My Kansas grands live in the country, but they still have a lot of Halloween fun - before it is even Halloween! My 14 yo gs volunteered, in costume, at the Zoo Halloween Party. Manhattan has a trick or treat day followed by the Kansas State Homecoming parade this year. Wish I could post photos of his costume as the KSU mascot pulled him out of the crowd for some fun in the parade. DD does not allow photo posting.

Irmi, I dread what you and Steve have to go through.

I think my first load or two of 'stuff' will go to storage today. Tomorrow we will go to Avondale/Goodyear for shopping - which we do every two weeks usually.

Morning all...lot of talk about halloween. I have lived where I had to buy a hundred dollars worth of candy but now live kind of rural so don't have any. They have lots of activities for the kids in town and in this day it is so much better. I grew up in a little country town and my girlfriend and I were both told not to go downtown. Well, of course we had to go downtown. This had been a railroad town until the year I was born. As is common this meant there were some undesirables who landed there. We were walking the sidewalk and our little bags were bulging. As we started back up the hill to our homes, she told me that somewhere behind us someone had grabbed her bag. She was so scared she just kept walking and didn't tell me. I shared with her and we learned our lesson.
Red, great news...life is good. Did you get into the Boot Camp?
Sounds like GTG is getting off to a fun start...wish I was there.
I'm watching the news and all the aftermath of Sandy...I suspect those of us watching this can't imagine the reality of the devastation..May God give comfort to the homeless...so many will be out of work...many prayers are being sent eastward.

I had trouble getting to sleep last night and then slept in this morning. It is a quiet day at the GTG in Texas, but I am enjoying watching people come in--at least 4-5 in the last couple of hours. Fun trying to guess who they are. Almost everyone here is from our group.

I am trying to catch up on work. Had no internet on Monday and poor internet a couple of days last week, so I got behind. Nice to be able to sit in my recliner here and keep an eye on all the going's on!

Everyone has been friendly and helpful. It is no nice to have potlucks this week so I do not not to have to eat my own cooking. I am getting VERY bored at what I cook and eat!

TRICK OR TREAT!
Weather forecast? Liquid sunshine! Might be a small window early in the evening which will be perfect. After growing up out in the country in Illinois and then living outside the city limits in Alaska, I have never had the fun of going trick or treating nor having trick or treaters. Since living here I get quite a few so I "treat" really well as it's so much fun. And I buy the good stuff; snickers, milky way, kit kats, M&Ms (peanut, plain and peanut butter), Twix bars, York peppermint patties...well, you get the gist. Been hard keeping out of the loot as chocolate is wonderful! My two GDs and their friends will be here also. Funtimes!

Irmi, so sorry for the flooding, yet again, on your home. So sad and heartbreaking.

Also continued prayers for the folks left with all the mess of Sandy. Such a widespread area of our country involved. Will be interesting to see how they figure out voting issues.
