G'morning! Altho it's not the day after Sandy for so many--wow, is she still raging!
Thankfally, I awoke to all electrical working--didn't need to escape to my HarBor! According to the news, Sandy stayed a bit farther soth of here, so we didn't get qwite the damage as expected. Soos? How abot yew??? The higher elevations of Central NY seemed to have been hit worse???? Glad to hear y'all checked on yore loved ones & that they are safe....Good news for me, I don't have any more leaves to rake
We had some strong wind blasts, so there's no telling who will be raking MY leaves this fall! TX GTG this weekend, I gather? I haven't checked that topic, yet so many of ya preparing to go. Y'all travel safely & enjoy! I'm heading off to school shortly--several school closings; not where I'm going tho. Y'all have a great day!

Glad to see your post, Carol & know that you're ok. Hope we hear from the others as the day goes on. Always love your take on things - 'not sure who'll be raking your leaves'
I finally took Sierra out for her first camping trip last weekend - will post pics when I can. She did really well - it was chilly taking her out several times during the night & she isn't used to being on a leash to do her business but I think she enjoyed the adventure smelling all the interesting smells. And being older she's so mellow on our walks & not easily distracted by anything not in her immediate area. (other dogs, critters, etc). Hope to do it a few more times before I take the van to storage for the winter.
Wishing safe travels for everyone today & an easy cleanup in Sandy's wake...

Good Morning Carolb and everybody,
Yep, poeer on here too. There are areas around me that have scattered outages, but nothing significant. Some should have their power back this morning according to the power companies. Course they say, they are expecting more outages as the day wears on. We have sustained winds between 25-35 mph, with higher winds being reported along the lake shores on both side of the state. Lake Michigan is expected to have 24 ft. waves. Unbelieveable as that is not a common thing out there. Lake Superior is more into that type of thing than are thel lower lakes. I hope those who are sailing on the lake carriers are all tucked away in safe harbors. We have a mix of rain/sleet/snow here today. Just enough to dust the ground at the moment.
Also hope all our forum sisters and their loved ones who are in the hardest hit areas have not suffered a tremendous amount of damage. It's incredible the way the water surged into NYC last night. I'm sure that as the day wears on and the full extent of the damage becomes more evident, it's going to cost billions to repair not to mention time. Wonder how all this is going to affect election day in the Northeast. Do we suspend election day for a bit perhaps or just hold the final results till all can vote? Be interestng to see how it plays out. Like I've always said, man things he is so mighty till Mom Nature comes along.
Ah yes, the TX GTG. Things are coming together for that and it will be nice to hear about some laughs and fun going on for a change.
Nothing much going on here today. Heading into town in a little while to talk to an audiologist about new kinds of hearing aids on the market now days and so forth. Am going to be testing new ones out down the line here. I have not had any luck with the new digital ones I have tried so far, analog ones work way better for me and I know of others having the same problem, but this is a different place and different types of aids, so will give them a whirl again.
Also out looking for a slow cooker. Was wondering what makes seem to be the better ones. Anhy advice from all you slow cooker users out there? Don't need a real biggie for just one person. Was thinking maybe 4-5 quart. I'm hearing pros and cons on rubber seals around the lids etc.
Well, I'm gonna go watch some more Weather Channel for awhile. Wishing everyone a safe day.

Morning Carolb, Sandy and everyone to follow.
Will be watching to see everyone check in today. Sure hoping everyone in the path of Sandy last night is still OK. The surge at lower Manhattan looked awful. I would imagine it will be days at least before everything in Manhattan is back up and running.
For right now, it is a quiet morning here. Finishing up cup of coffee then going to get dressed and do something with my hair before getting us ready to head down the road to the TX GTG. Figure we will be leaving here somewhere around 11. Mom getting ready to get in the shower. I figure I will start putting up and stowing everything starting around 9:00. Have a few coffee cups to wash real quick and then put up. Glad we don't have far to go today to get there so we should be pulling into CG early this afternoon depending on what time we actually get going from here. Hoping to find someplace along the way to refill my propane. Have been using the furnace at night. If not, I will get out the little electric heaters and just use the propane for cooking. Want to fill up with gas too on the way. I don't like to leave without a full tank of gas for anywhere. You never know what you might run into.
Everyone have a great day and if you are traveling, stay safe.

Morning! I haven't seen anything on the surge this morning but they are saying they are due for another high tide this morning. I have friends in NJ who have a son going to Hofstra on Long Island. Both are ok although power is out.
And Sue, if they delay the election in the NE, I'm assuming it will be delayed nationwide so as not to skew the results.
I'm jealous of those arriving at Potter's Creek today. I still have 2 days to go before I get there. That reminds me, I need to text DBF and see what his schedule is for the weekend. I don't think he will be able to go with me but stranger things have happened.

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!
Glad to see so many up and about this morning. After a night of roaring winds, thankfully broken from hitting my trailer directly by a large, wooded hill behind me, and pounding rains from some outer bands of Sandy, I assume, the day has dawned bright, warm and sunny! I could hear trees snapping off with loud thunderous cannon-shot cracks in the woods in between the rains pounding on my roof. Sandy is still south and somewhat west of us now, and I am so hoping she stays westerly as she travels to Canada. If not, we will get heavy winds and rain or snow in the next few days. I sure hope Sunday, my new take-off date, will at least be sunny if not cold. I also hope that route 95 will be travelable from Richmond on down to sunny FL. I will be on 81 until Winchester, and I am hoping Sandy lets that road stay in good shape, too.
I hope I can post this message, as I had to try loggin in about a dozen times to even be able to type it. I will read as the day goes on, after I get back from the bank where I need to deposit some checks, and hope that all of you can find the time and wherewithall to check in and let us know how you are. I know tons will be without power. Take care and stay safe, everybody.

Carol B and Soos, so glad to hear you are both okay and not much damage...Soos,I can imagine what those woods must look like..someone will have tons of firewood to use and sell. I have my fingers crossed that you can leave on Sunday as planned. The trip down will certainly be slow with all the damage..be very careful.
Sue, I also wondered about the election. On the news they said the candidates have suspended their campaigns. So many have their lives disrupted, can't blame them for not putting voting high on their priority list. I rarely vote early but this has reminded me of the importance of doing this. We never know what changes might occur in our lives.
As happens with Mother Nature in control, the terrible circumstances of an Arctic front colliding with the hurricane brought AR beautiful days. The first day we got some rain and a little wind then bright blue skies, cold nights but warmer perfect days. We get our share of devastation by being one of the 'tornado' states and we have no months of relaxing...they can occur anytime. Of course nothing compares with such widespread suffering Sandy brought to millions. My prayers for all who will be trying to restore some normalcy in the coming weeks and months. In another post, Irmi said they got the bad news of their home flooding.

morning to all. Was up most the night watching the news. I certainly can tell you. A stress test was in the happening...I haven't heard from hubby since he lost power and my family in NYC plus in the Hampton's. But I'm praying that they did evacuate. Sure looks a mess and the city will work double time to get things up and running.
As for Philly, I'm still waiting to hear...but glad to hear from Paulette and Soos and others. Sure been twirling them rosary beads..it helped me and I know others as well.
I fell asleep at 7am and woke up a little after 9:30am. Had to give meds and feed critters so I'm still groggy. Just happy to read all those posting
For those getting to the Texas GTG. Have a blast and make sure them pictures come cause we is darn nosy
God bless everyone
Zeee and critters 3

So glad to see people checking in and doing ok this morning. My folks in NYC are fine; they weren't in the flood zone, so they didn't have to evacuate. I hope everybody has news of their people and all is well.

Hi everyone!
Sorry I didn't post here earlier. I've been in a daze after hearing that we flooded again. We are still in NC and now will stay until this weekend, waiting for the water to recede in our yard. We've been through this before, so we sort of have a feeling what we'll need to do once we get home. I hope our appliances survived the flood, which a lot didn't last year. I hope everyone else in the path of the storm is ok. There is a picture of our house in the General forum under Sandy.

Sue, here is a slow cooker I just bought thru Walmart. It has great reviews but I haven't tried it yet so can't say how I like it but it looks nice! It is a 5 quart. I got it mostly for potlucks and I like the band that goes over the top to keep the lid from coming off (had a nasty sloppy joe incident once on the front seat of my car with the regular kind of lid).
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hamilton-Beac ... r/15229926Haven't turned on the news yet this morning to see what has happened out east but can imagine it is not good.
Stopped at my brother's house last night to show him my new Jeep. Apparently, my dad had told my brothers that I bought a volkswagon! My brother said he just rolled his eyes when he heard that! He was very relieved to see a Jeep in his driveway instead! (my brothers don't care for little foreign cars).
Sorry to hear about Irmi's house. Hope the rest of you are staying hi and dry!
>>forgot to post this this morning and just found it sitting here, so am posting late tonight...
