Good Morning Ladies,

Trust you all had a good night last night and are ready to start another day.

Not much in the way of breakfast around here this morning, sorry. Just one egg left and some sausage. Guess we all wanted to start that diet today, don't we :lol: Trip to store coming up I think. I'm heading on out this morning over to Traverse City to pick up a few things I hope and also run to the compounding pharmacy that is making up Tessa's estrogen pills while I am over there. So it will be a nice day outing.

Thanks for all your concerns about the "gunman" back in the woods here. As the story is now, it was started with a domestic duspute. I live in a small subdivision inbetween two highways here and along the highway out front, there are are 4 homes. In one of those is where it all started. He apparently threatened a familly member with a gun and then fled into the woods. Police were called, he fired off some shots while he was out there and they decided to set up a perimeter and see if they could locate him. Guess he was "heavily armed". Although the woods back here aren't that big, they do run at little over a mile deep and a bit wide in one area, plus there has been some clear cutting done resulting in new growth that's very thick in one area. So it took them awhile to locate him. I think he was way back in the far area from us. I'm kind of wondering if he fired those shots perhaps in frustration over the whole thing, who knows. So that's probably why nobody was notified cause it wasn't one of those "escaped convict or really lunatic nuts" running around and a danger to everybody. Just a family thing.

But when it boils down to it. People and guns in the woods are a fact of life here. This time of year it's hunting season for small game, bear and turkeys (short season on that) and in a few weeks it will be fire arms deer season. So there are always people out with guns. I've hunted, my dad has hunted and friends have hunted. The fact that we are carrying guns even though we are licensed to carry them, can be considered "armed and dangerous" if you want to put a tag on it. Nobody ever knows what somebody is going to do. So you deal with it. Life goes on and in this case nobody was hurt.

Sounds likes there's going to be some "tamales" being picked up and delivered way down south in TX. Plans being made to have a mimi GTG too. Ah, the winter exodus has begun. Before you know it, it will be time for the FL GTG in January and then who knows what else. Have fun y'all.

Well, not much else new here, so am going to head on out myself. Still dark in these parts, so won't be hitting the road anytiime sooon, but have a few other things to do anyway. Hoping you all have a nice day and safe travels to those who are on the road.

Good morning, all....up early again today.... :roll: but still got 6 1/2 hrs. of snooze time...so will take it....lots of folks came in here after hours last night....last 2 rows filled in at dark....we have neighbors on both sides of us right now....but they didn't unhook from tow trucks or the cars in the back of MHs, so am assuming they are all leaving this morning....lots of dogs, so that's driving Spinner nuts as he feels he needs to greet every one of them..... :roll: :lol: It's quiet now, but when the "doggy potty parade" begins, he'll have something to say about that... :lol:

Nothing much going on today....so will work on some projects here...

Okay, off for some more coffee....Have a great day, all...

Good morning Sue, Lori and everyone else to follow. Glad to hear everything turned out ok with the guy with the gun in the woods. Yes, it is hunting season soon and there are areas that I will not be hiking or walking Tyler. Have to stick to the parks and local walks!! Still fighting off a cold, think I'm winning. Feeling much better today.

Starting to try and get everything together to make our first outing in the rig for the TX gtg. Not sure I know what I'm doing, but gotta start somewhere! We are thinking about going to FL in January. We were going to go at Xmas to see relatives, but that was before we got the 5er. Don't want to fight Xmas crowds in FL, so Jan makes sense. Maybe it'll work out that we can stop at the gtg for a few days. Who knows? Again, I started to look at maps, cgs, etc and have no idea how to start planning. DH likes to just drive until too tired and find a spot to overnight. But is that practical when towing the 5er?? I think our limit is about 4 hrs driving in one day for a couple days. Then stay put a couple days, etc. but having a hard time selecting destinations and which CG. I know this is part of the whole experience and I will learn as I go. That's part of the fun.

Off to walk Tyler and then relax with coffee as I make lists and look at maps. Everyone have a great day and stay safe if you are on the road. Aloha y'all

The TX GTG may be a good place for y'all to start, Red. There will be lots of advice ;) and if you forget something, you aren't that far from a Wal-Mart or even an RV store. As far as traveling distance and style, that's definitely an individual thing. I still do a lot of destination camping because of that dreaded working thing. So that means, I will drive longer distances per day to get where I'm going and then enjoy the destination. It helps that DBF is a professional truck driver and is used to driving for fairly long distances. And the way the truck drinks gas, we have to stop about every 170-180 miles for gas. You will figure it out.

And as far as places to stay, there are plenty of guides. I prefer parks over parking lots, so I stay in a lot of state or COE parks. There is www.rvparkreviews.com to help you figure out if a place is "your kind" of park. Read the comments as much as the ratings. You can find all kinds of lists and reservations online.

Today is my last day to work this week. It's going to be hot through Friday with a 40% chance of rain on Friday, then much colder this weekend - maybe 20 degrees colder. I just hope the rain is during the off hours. I don't want to be out working in it.

Morning to All - Well today is "go day" minus one. Need to check all our lists twice and make sure we're ready to head out tomorrow morning. Just the food and a few use every day things left to go into Jennie - and of course whatever we are going to forget.....Bill is at the mechanics getting the transmission serviced in Willie. Keep Willie happy.
Almost all the leaves have come off the trees, very little color left. Seemed like it happened over night. This morning it is warm and rainy out - tomorrow should be nice I hope. Don't like starting out in the rain. Only going to go about 190 miles tomorrow. The only kind of big town just west of us has major consttruction on every road so we'll get a later start - after all the work and college traffic is hopefully gone.
I had a reaction to the shingles pills - got really sick from them so am off them now. Fingers crossed I got enough benefit from them.

GOOD MORNING ALL!

It was zero visibility in the fog when I first woke up this morning, but it has now cleared, leaving it grey, cool (46) and overcast as so many days have been lately.

It is my day to stay in the house with Orion, and will be for the next several days, as his dad will head back to my place to stack wood, do some construction work on his grandma's house, and whatever. Mandy has full days at school as her advisor meetings begin and she likes to devote a lot of time to getting to know her students. Both Orion and I are feeling much better, so we should have some fun! If the sun comes out, we will walk around the yard and let the milkweed seeds fly!

Time for me to get going....hope you all have a wonderful day doing something fun. I will be on and off this computer as Orion's schedule allows today.

Here's one of my favorite poems that we had to memorize and write perfectly in the 4th grade to brighten your day:

Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885)
October's Bright Blue Weather

O SUNS and skies and clouds of June,
And flowers of June together,
Ye cannot rival for one hour
October's bright blue weather;

When loud the bumble-bee makes haste,
Belated, thriftless vagrant,
And Golden-Rod is dying fast,
And lanes with grapes are fragrant;

When Gentians roll their fringes tight
To save them for the morning,
And chestnuts fall from satin burrs
Without a sound of warning;

When on the ground red apples lie
In piles like jewels shining,
And redder still on old stone walls
Are leaves of woodbine twining;

When all the lovely wayside things
Their white-winged seeds are sowing,
And in the fields, still green and fair,
Late aftermaths are growing;

When springs run low, and on the brooks,
In idle golden freighting,
Bright leaves sink noiseless in the hush
Of woods, for winter waiting;

When comrades seek sweet country haunts,
By twos and twos together,
And count like misers, hour by hour,
October's bright blue weather.

O suns and skies and flowers of June,
Count all your boasts together,
Love loveth best of all the year
October's bright blue weather.

Ok. I admit to still being bundled in bed because my RV is still very cold this very early morning near Tucson.

I have been enjoying the nightly coyote serenades here. They vary from what sounds like a coyote disagreement to a song between old friends.

Heading to tour of Kartchner Caverns today and slowly working my way to Texas GTG!

Good Morning from Salome, Arizona - my winter home for the 3rd (and hopefully) final year. I hope to be back to traveling full time next year.

We brought the camper down Sunday from Cottonwood, got LeRoy's truck to go back and get my 5er from storage yesterday.

Today I begin packing up the 5er in preparation for putting it up for sale. LeRoy will be helping with various chores - some undoing things he put in for me!

Fun to read of those getting ready to head south and those heading to the Texas GTG!

Enjoy your day and safe travels.

Was woken early this morning by a wonderful thunderstorm! Love those! Also got some much needed rain! Supposed to stay cloudy today with more rain possible but warm near 70. By the weekend tho, highs will only be in the low to mid 40's :shock: . The grade school class will be at my dad's on Saturday to clean up the leaves in his yard. It will be cold for them but it only takes them about an hour to get it all done.

Looked at used cars yesterday. Not as fun as I thought and more frustrating. Was told that without a down payment or great credit, I need to look at cars that are 2005 or newer with less than 80,000 miles, in order to get financing. Those cars cost around $10,000 so that puts my payments at around $250 per month which is way more than I can afford. Now how does that make sense? Will keep checking different places tho. Meanwhile, my friend Steve is going to let me use his dad's SUV for awhile so that will buy me more time to look.

Better get ready for work here. Hope you all have a great day!

Evening all! Thanks for the poem Soos. Enjoyed it. Fits the season very well.

Today was really the first day of my new life to me. Everything leading up to today has been preparation. Today I drove roads I had never been on before and am at a CG in a town I have never been to before. It was an adventure. We got caught in construction trying to get onto Hwy 67. The ramps to get on the Hwy were closed but there were no signs to let us know. I had to turn down a very narrow country road because I could not back up towing the Jeep. Paul was able to turn around and he pulled over to wait on us. The side of my rig got scratched by a low hanging tree with branches out in the road. I am real unhappy about that. Hopefully they can be buffed out. I finally found a little business that I could go across some grass and come out on their driveway. Then had to make a really sharp left turn onto another narrow country road. Mom and I were really holding our breath because if I could not turn sharp enough, we would have ended up in the bar ditch on the right side of the road. I did it! We made our way back to where Paul was and then had to backtrack for several miles before we found a place we could get an open ramp onto the Hwy. The wind was really gusting every now and again. That was fun. Not!

I was pretty nervous about towing the Jeep until I had to take that awful little road. After that, I figured it couldn't get much worse and I got through it. I relaxed after that. Did tell Paul I was not going to follow him anymore. He drives too slow for me. I was doing 50 most of the way after I went around him. When I was following him, he would get down to 35 sometimes and the speed limit was 70. I think he was more nervous than me. He did speed up after our ramp adventure and was just a few minutes behind us when we got to the campground.

Now going to enjoy our week here. Got to go get some of those yummy tamales for Maggie and me. Going to explore and see lots of things and places everyone has been telling us about. Will do pics and post on my blog in a few days after our adventures.

Hope everyone had a great day.

You go girl. You are doing just fine. While you definitely want to keep speed down to a reasonable mph, doing 35 in a 70 will cause you just as many problems as going too fast. Paul may do better following you until he gets more comfortable.

Good job, Dawn. And, it really doesn't take long to unhitch and re-hitch if you have to. Pain in the butt, but sometimes better than the scratches, etc. Hope they buff out for you.

I hope he wasn't on the interstate doing 35 - minimum is 40, which can get you killed.

Good job, Dawn! When I first started out, I ended up on a closed, narrow two lane road towing a 30' 5er that I didn't know how to back up straight!! A small turnout eventually I could back into and managed to turn the whole thing around. After that I figured I could handle anything!

I have had to unhook my car before...mostly due to my own stupidity. Missed the turnout out of the campground and ended up in a small culdesac...no room to turn around for me so had to unhook and rehook.......THEN stopped in Fernley Nevada for gas and it was sooooo busy I just decided to move on. Followed a truck to what I thought was the exit...nooooooo I am now in the truck wash lane. No way to get out of here, big curbs on both sides, only way out is to go on thru. I had never been to a truck wash before so now I am really nervous. I got out and talked to a fellow and all he said was you want your toad washed too. HUH??? Well it ended up being a Blue Beacon truck wash and now I stop there every chance I get, BUT it was a bit nervewracking...all he told me was to make sure all my windows and vents are closed. You get out and when they are done you pay and get back in and drive off. So my mishap turned in to a very good thing.
