Rainy Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Rainy Wednesday

Postby Colliemom » Wed Oct 10, 2012 7:18 am

Good Morning everyone,

Guess I am joining the ranks of the "wet weather" people this week now that it has started. In fact, this area being high elevation, we might even see some white stuff mixed in as temps are only hitting low 40's

Maggie, I posted the pictures from the western U.P. under General Talk if you havne't already looked at them. Sounds like you really fired up the cousins about next summer. I don't know how long you will have in MI when youa are here, but I will be more than happy to GTG with you and show you some of the sights.

Red, yep you are an official RVer. Got those tanks dumped. Don't know why it makes us so nervous to do that as it's not really a big deal. Hook up hose, stick other end in the sewer hole, pull lever and stand around twiddling thmbs while waiting. Congrats on the new 5er and your "maidan voyage".

Carolb, you are heading to the midwest to see some fall color. If you have the time, come on into Mi as we are experiencing the best fall we have had in years, at least in the northern half of the state. Granted the weather is a bit wet, but not constant and even that helps as it makes the color stand out that much more. This are here is at peak, with some spots a bit past, but it is moving south slow but sure.

Carol and Bill are making preparations to head south to MX again. With talk of GTG's coming up and in January in FL, I guess winter is on it's way, like it or not.

Kathleen, sorry you can't head south for winter, but sometimes there are reasons for things happening as they do and we just don't know it at the time. The senior citizens places sounds neat. Those waiting lists do have a habit of being pared down quicker than they say though as unfortunately some residents pass away, or decide not to wait and find something else. So you never know.

Nothing much planned for today. Not doing a heck of a whole lot this week since the weather is kind of wet today and tomorrow. Did get grass cut on Monday as well as run some errands and of course took Ms. Tessa to the vet. Mulched up what leaves were out there as I cut grass. Yesterday i was up town doing some fun stuff like looking for some fall decorations for my Harvest Welcome signs I want to make just for fun. Ha, getting hard to find fall stuff as they are decorating for Christmas now  Jeez, we haven't even had Halloween yet. I can see putting out Christmas lilghts and outdoor decoration stuff, as in the north country many people, me included at one time, put them up early before the weather turns really cold and snowy. We don't turn them on, just have them ready.

So today, I am going on a dog food hunt to change the "girls" over to another type of food. Going to do some research from a list BJ pm'd me last night and see whats out there that might be available in this area. So it will be a puttery day.

Have a wonderful day all, and i will talk to you tomorrow.

Good morning to All - Bill is in the kitchen preparing a delicious breakfast. Today he is using a three cheese egg beater to mix with his veggies. We'll see how it tastes.
Guess he wants us to be fortified for a long days work. We brought Jennie home yesterday and she is sitting in the drive way behind the Alpha. Cleaned her up inside a little yesterday aft. We had the RV place remove the satellite dish for us (its now in the garage) and then Bill spent the better part of the afternoon removing all the wires, boxes and dodads from the HughesNet connection. Then rewiring everything else so it still works. Jennie has a dome for the TV so we didn't need the satellite dish anymore.
Today we start moving stuff into her. Ugh. Going to start at one end of the Alfa and work back.
At least its not going to rain here today but it won't be very warm only high 50s.
Well off to a busy day.

Sue I did see your pics and enjoyed them immensely. I'm now probably going to tack a second week on to family reunion to spend in the UP and exploring. Also, I may be driving from TX. There are things that we may want, such as camp chairs and bocce ball sets and possible some of my DO's that would be crazy to have to buy in MI when I own them in TX.

Warm here this morning. Fall isn't quite here yet.

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!

The kids left for home yesterday afternoon so Mandy can get back to her teaching duties, and it leaves an emptiness here now. It will be hard for me to leave in a couple of weeks for the sunny south, having to leave behind a little boy who changes daily! Just in the 6 months I have been back here he has gone from baby to little boy, and he gains new skills each and every day. But they will be coming south via car between Christmas and New Year's Day, and can stay for a couple of weeks! My best Christmas present!

Our beautifully colored maple leaves have now blown off the trees, and the only colors left at all are the muted yellows of the aspens and other scrag trees, and the yellowing needles of the larch that fall off for the winter.

I guess I slept through an earthquake centered in the Montreal area early this morning at about 12:30 am. Although, I do recall waking up and checking the clock at that hour for some reason unbeknownst to me----perhaps the ratttling and shaking was what had me awake for a brief period. We have had at least two earthquakes in this area that have been very memorable and frightening since 1977, but no damage done to this house, thank heavens. Those other two quakes did a lot of road and bridge damage, chimney topplers, and things of that nature, but no news of any damage with this latest shaker, as yet.

Today I am going to my credit union to transfer a loan from one little north country bank to them, hoping to get a much better interest rate and an easier way to pay my bill each month online rather than having to mail a check. I told the bank this morning that they need to get modernized to allow online bill-pay. Hopefully, my credit union will be amenable to this transfer.

Other than some last minute things to pack now, a propane tank to switch for a full one, a motorcycle battery to bring inside, some things needing to go to the dump, I am ready to haul out of here and head to Mandy's until I head south at the end of the month. I will return here to pick up my friend who will travel with me when she gets back from her cruise with her daughter on the 15th. Or, perhaps I will just stay here and wait for her to get back----depends on whether or not Joe needs to come back here and help his father when he gets out of the hospital, and I can stay with Orion while Mandy works.

I hope all of you preparing for the winter on the roads can find some fun in the preparations as well as the travel. I try to read your posts every day, even if I haven't the time to comment. I love hearing what's going on!

Off to the credit union I go now. Have a fun Wednesday all!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Good morning everyone. Weather here is cool, yet muggy still. It sounds like it is a very short fall up north. :( We made it home. however the hardest part of the trip was yet to come. When we were leaving Coushatta we drove over to this huge, empty parking lot to practice backing up and to see if the super slide and 90 degree turning design on the 5er worked. The sharp turning worked with just an inch, missing the cab and the walls of the truck bed and the tailgate. When we got home we were faced with getting the 5er into our drive way. It is a big driveway and a long drive way....however, there is a narrow bottle neck and gate opening. DH tried several times. He went around the block again and I went across the street and asked our neighbor to help. Neighbor is a fireman and I've watched him maneuver huge horse trailers on and off their property. He tried to direct DH and again it just wouldn't work. Exhausted and discouraged, DH was going to leave it in the street for the night. It's OK out in the country area!! Neighbor asked if he could try and DH tossed him the keys. On the 2nd try, with no inches to spare, our baby is now sitting in front of the house :P I really didn't want to put her in storage.

This morning I will be cleaning her out, organizing the volumes of manuals, and adding a few of my own touches

Everyone have a great day and stay safe. Aloha y'all

Good Morning, things are settling down here, breakfast is over and the little one is sleeping. Will wake him up soon for a walk and then a ride to get dog food. I contacted his owner this morning to tell her his personality is not exactly as described! He is not playing well with others and he barks and growls at strangers on the street and people who come in to visit. ACK I tried all the training tricks I know, he doesn't respond to the left shoulder, no eye contact method for aggressive dogs. Usually if a person does that to an aggressive dog it will stop and come to them and as long as they don't make eye contact until the dog has checked them out it works. As I suspected she said she was surprised at his behavior and thought, as I do, that he is still a bit unsure about his new surroundings. So, will look for a puppy class and start taking him to coffee with me, they have an outside deck where dogs are allowed.
Other than that I finally ordered new glasses as I broke the frame on mine while in TN. Wow, are they expensive even with our insurance! Thank goodness Liz had some tape so I was able to do a temporary fix. When I got home DH super glued them and so far so good but didn't want to press my luck much longer.
The sun is out and it is supposed to be nice the rest of the week with temp in mid seventies. Sounds perfect!

I highly recommend www.zennioptical.com - got my last 3 pairs of glasses there. And the prices are right. In fact, the only reason I have 3 different pairs is because I paid way less for all three than I would have for one previously. Ordered them at different times. The pair I wear most often I bought on a whim, thinking they'd be for fun - and like them so much I wear them daily. Go figure.

Starting work today - in a little bit. Am not sure about this place. The job itself will be easy. The manager is a sweetheart and why I took it - but never did I understand their very, very strange dog rules. My street is dog friendly - until the last couple houses. I can't walk past the non-dog friendly properties. That means I can't get from my rig to the entrance of the park even. I'm not happy. Six months of having to watch our every step - stupid. Then she told me about the gates to "outside". So I went there - they were locked. Was told they are unlocked early in the am to dusk. Well, dusk is no good, cuz our evening walk we could get locked out. But since I've tried all of them twice yesterday and now this morning and they were never unlocked. Well ... again, not happy. I've already talked to a couple other places and just might be moving - we shall see. Can't do anything until I get the car back from the repair shop. And how much that ends up costing will figure into what I do, also.

Hope all have a great day. Sun is shining and breezes blowing right now. Ava - I turn off my ac at night - it's cooling off enough. And is beautiful still now. When I leave for work, since I know it'll warm up while I'm there, I'll close up and turn the ac on for the day - don't want Peaches uncomfortable. Was great sleeping weather last night and can imagine it'll continue getting better. We're showing a couple day cool down also. Who knows tho :)

I finally got my cable and internet reconnected in the new apartment yesterday and have been trying to get caught up on the Forum! Finally finished the Morning Coffee posts for the past week.

Just got home from getting a much needed back and shoulder massage! Feel so much better now! Really did a number on it from moving last week!

It is a nice sunny day today but cold (40's) and breezy. Supposed to stay this way for awhile and then get heavy rains on Saturday. Last week they got 14 inches of snow in northern Minnesota! Yikes! We just got a couple of flurries here. But I did have to scrape frost off my windshield one morning. Now I have a garage to park in! :D

Angel (my new kitty) is doing well. She is so sweet and layed back. She licks my hand or arm while I am petting her. She does need to lose some weight tho so I need to go buy her some diet food and get her exersizing some. (Same goes for me as I've gained a few pounds since I left CA! )
Lola is still not happy with having another kitty here but she is getting better. She just growls and hisses when Angel gets too close to her.

The couple who used to live in this apartment must have had a bird feeder on the deck because there has been a sparrow hanging around on the deck this morning like he is looking for food. I will have to go pick some up tomorrow. Will be good entertainment for the kitties!

I have met a few other nice neighbors here this week, including another cute single guy who lives right next door!

Sorry to hear about health issues with the furbabies on here! That is always tough to deal with. Hope they are doing better soon. BJ, I still have to read about your new furkid. Sounds like a handful!

Beth, where are you staying now for the winter?

Carol, am wondering how you and Bill decide on which RV to take to Mexico each year? Isn't Jenny the smaller one of the two?

I have the next two days off from work (finally!) so will be able to start getting things unpacked and put away.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Afternoon all! Seems like I don't get online until later in the day anymore. Will be reading to catch up with everyone.

Just talked to my middle daughter. She got me caught up on all the family news since oldest daughter was threatening me and I have been keeping very low profile online. It has not been a good week for my family. Oldest granddaughter's fiance committed suicide on her birthday which was this past Sunday. They were having a fight on that day and she did not answer his calls. There were a lot of things going on in his life with his parents. From what I understand from my middle daughter, his parents are separated and really fighting. He had just gotten a DWI and was really upset about that and his parent's situation. Apparently the fight with my granddaughter was more than he could handle. I don't understand suicide. Tomorrow is always a new day and a new prospective. My granddaughter is Bi-polar and has her own issues. She is going to go into therapy and has asked if she can stay with my middle daughter for a while. She is avoiding her mother, my oldest. Her sister is going to have to have her thyroid removed as she has been having allergic reactions to the medications they have been trying. I have asked my middle daughter to let the granddaughters know that I love them and am here for them as much as I am able because of their mother. Told middle daughter not to get into what their mother is doing to me. They don't need that if they are not aware of it. Middle daughter is still not talking to oldest. She says she still cannot believe how cruel the oldest is being to me. A big part of why I am keeping such a low profile is so the middle daughter gets relief from oldest. I also told middle daughter to let granddaughter know she is welcome to travel with us if she needs to for a while. It is horrible that from now on, her birthday will be a link to this awful thing.

Dawn.....Walk with strength for your heart...it sounds as if there are others depending upon you just to be there. The ability to place one foot in front of the other....is no small thing and often takes great courage and a faith in hope....

Wow Dawn! You sure have your hands full right now. I feel so bad for your granddaughter. Suicide is never easy to understand. But to have that happen on her birthday had to be even more devastating to her. So sad for all involved. I hope your oldest daughter "wakes up" a little now and gets her priorities straight.

Take care of yourself right now. Then you will be better able to help the others in your life that need you.
