Cold Thursday Morning

Good Morning everyone,

A cold morning to start the day off here. At the moment, my temp is 32 degrees. I live down in a valley, so it's always a few degrees colderthan up where I work at the park. But nevertheless it's chilly all over up here. Going into the mid to upper 20's tonight, so the growing season is over here. Our normal first freeze date is usually around October 1st or so, so it's a bit early, but not unusual. What's normal these days anyway?

I just got back from a couple of days camping at Burt Lake State Park, the park where I have a job offer if I want it next summer. It's about 38 miles north of here and 20 miles southeast of Aloha State Park, where I love to go. Had a nice time exploring the park, not that I haven't been there before, but not camping. We had glorious weather on Sunday night and into Monday night. Sunny, gentle breeze and around 80 degrees. But I knew the weather forecast was calling for a cold front to come through and I could see the clouds off to the Northwest at sunset. So rolled in my awning and put stuff away (usually do the night before I leave anyway), backed my truck up to the hitch in case it was raining in the morning etc.

Sure enough, around midnight we had a lightening storm. Had Tessa not gotten her usual storm panic going, I would have slept through it. It was pretty vivid once in a while though. When we got up in the morning to let them out. The wind was really blowing and the air smelled like smoke. That as I found out later was from a 60,000 acres wildfire burning east of Ely, MN in the Boundary Waters Canoe area up there. The wind was just right to bring in the smoke. Pretty acrid stuff. We had it again yesterday morning for awhile. I feel sorry for those who are closer and have to breathe that stuff all day.

So the dogs and I packed up, did a doggie walk for a bit and then headed for home. I stopped for breakfast at a restaurant by the park first though. Once we got home, I put stuff away and headed for town to do some shopping and then came home, did my laundry and just relaxed for what was left of the day. Another successful trip done. Will post the pics soon as I get a chance to load them in. Am hoping to be able to go again before I have to call it quits and winterize. Am watching the long range predictions to see if I will be able to camp or have to stay at the resort when I head out in a couple of weeks.

Needless to say, with the cold weather, things have dropped off at work too. Only 8 camps at the park right now. Pretty normal for this time of year anyway. My two co-workers and I were busy yesterday, staining all of our picnic tables in the campground. Was a bit on the chilly side working close to the lake, but not too bad away from it. We have the entire campgrounds tables done, except for those on the occupied sites. Will get them later. Ran out of paint though and have to get more before we finish up what's left. Have a number of other projects left to do before we are done working on the 30th.

right now it's time to get ready to head out the door and get into today's projects, whatever that might be. Going to be really chilly as it's only going into the low 50's today. If the wind would die down that would help greatly. So will haul out my heavier jacket, my hat and a pair of gloves too. Have a wonderful day all.

good Morning All - it is COLD here in Elkhart too - heater ran all night. And I swear I can see frost on the grass and ice crystals on the top of the car.
Had rain yesterday aft and evening. So it was nice to have TV, Internet and be able to download my book on to my Nook.
The satellite is all fixed - one mission accomplished, now we wait for washer/waxer guy - he came by last night and said he would start today - last year it took him 4 days to do Jennie so we might be here for awhile - I don't mind but The Driver hates, hates, hates the cold. He says his leg is really hurting where they took the vein out for the bypass. Also many many years ago when he was a young man and still in Argentina in the army he got shot in several places and they ended up leaving one bullet in his leg - coated with something so the lead doesn't hurt him. Now that he lost weight and muscle tone it bothers him too. Same leg of course.
A lot of the people here in the campground take their RVs to repair and reconditioning places every day. Lots of manufacturers and salvage and reconditioning places in town.
If it warms up and his leg feels better hopefully we can go out and explore some. Last year we were here later in the year and a lot of things were closed.
Have some delicious banana nut muffins from Perkins and a fresh pot of coffee and the fireplace on if anyone drops by.

GOOD MORNING SUE, CAROL, AND ALL!~

It's not as cold here in Pierrepont as where Sue is, or where Carol is, but I turned on my furnace to take the chill off in here----it was 50 deg. F. inside. You two are busy despite the weather conditions. It's good to see some posts from Asir again!

I looked at a truck camper last night that Mandy had spotted on her way to the doc's yesterday----it will fit my truck, I am pretty sure, and, although the roof will need some repairs due to getting dented by the snowfall last year, and having its vent cover broken, the inside looks wonderful. It has a 3-burner gas stove, an electric/propane refrigerator, a converter, a water pump, a flushable toilet and black tank, fresh water tank, large cab-over bed, smaller dinette bed, quite a bit of storage, radio antenna (no TV antenna----maybe a use for my satellite dish I have never used), a propane heater, and no mildew smells. And the price is certainly right as listed as "400.00 OBO"! The poor guy is desperate for money and said he would be willing to come down to 300 dollars. For that price, I could afford to spend another few hundred dollars to get it spiffied up, the roof repaired, and whatever. It weighs 1025 pounds, and I wonder if my truck could handle that----how do I find out if it can? I would expect to take all the paneling off the inside ceiling, repalce any insulation with rigid foam stuff, poke out the dented roof, replace the broken ven cover, and then coat the roof with rubber. For an initial investment of 300 bucks, that sure does seem doable. Just another decision to make. I wish it were summer coming and not winter so I would have time to work on it.....but I can store it in my shelter until next summer. It has 3 jacks with it, too----it's a Sun Line. Sigh!

Today Mandy and I will paint the nursery. Joe will finish it off when he comes back with a friend on Friday.

Hope everyone is having a good day wherever you may be. Let us hear from you!

Cool day here in Clayton with lots of rain last night. Yesterday was beautiful and we spent most of it sitting (reading and lunch) at a cottage on The River (which is how they refer to the St. Lawrence) after a round of tennis. The owner is a former classmate of my BIL whom we met and he extended an invitation to use their place while we were here. Hopefully, our replacement jack ($$$$) and windshield wiper will arrive on Friday and we can get them installed. We've decided to stay here and park the mh while we drive to Quebec City on the 24th. It's only about a 4-5 hr drive and cheaper to drive the car. Then when we return, we can hop on I81 and head to FL. Soos, wouldn't it be great if you could find a way to get the camper to FL along with your trailer and then you can work on it there. But guess it protrudes to much for it and the trailer and maybe the weight wouldn't work. tGM is working on getting our old small computer up to par, so we can take it on our trip and also-SO HE DOESN'T HAVE TO SHARE THIS COMPUTER when I want to use it  He's actually been wonderful about that, but having my own would be nice. Ok, getting off now. carold

Brrr it's cold here this morning too 48 degrees with a pretty brisk wind. It sure feels a lot better than the 100 degree weather we just about a a week ago!! My friends invitation to come stay with her for awhile this winter in Ft Myers, FL is sounding better and better as I start to think about snow and ice.

I'm anxious for news from the cruise! I think it ends tomorrow so maybe we'll start to hear unless they decided to stay at some exciting port along the way.

The sun is out so I think it's warmed up enough for my morning walk. Better get it over so I can get on with the day.

She checked with her doc and he told her what brands of paint she could get that are non-toxic. (Much more expensive, of course!) We will also use shelac on the bare wood trim that Joe is putting in....shelac is made from all natural, non-toxic, no-fumey stuff, unlike poly things. But I appreciate your concern, Kath! She is very careful what she exposes herself to.

Sunny and 68 right now with a high of 78 later. No complaints here in SoCal! They had a small earthquake yesterday in East Los Angeles. Wonder if Laura felt it? Evie might have too. Sharon's place might have gotten some rolling too, but she is rolling on the high seas right now!

Had a bad dream last night that I woke up back in Minnesota! I was very upset and I kept hoping I was dreaming yet and that I would wake up in California. And sure as heck (thank God!) I woke up right here in sunny California!!! Yay!!! Nightmare with a happy ending! :D

Was fairly busy at work yesterday but tips are definately smaller down here than where I was before. :( Heading back to work later this afternoon. They keep switching me from one shop to the other every day or so, so I have to keep checking my schedule to see where I am supposed to be that day! Next week I will be at just one shop most of the week tho.

Hope Echo is doing better (no updates for awhile tho), and that George is recovering well, too. Keeping them in my thoughts and prayers. Hope everyone else is doing well!

So sorry you are all freezing up there. I expect it will be a hundred degrees here again today. We are supposed to have a cold front coming through that will bring the temps down to 93 or 94. Anyway, I'd rather have the heat than the cold you are already having in September. I grew up in Minnesota and had more than enough of that cold to last a lifetime. The AC is working just fine.

Colleen, where did you live in MN? I was just 30 miles west of Minneapolis. I had it with the winters too, so I moved out to SoCal just a year ago (October 1st).

Good morning all.
Soos: if you got a manual with that truck it should tell how much it can haul. Or you might check that model on Google for info on it.

I was born and raised in Duluth. Left there after I got married and moved to Japan with DH who was in the Air Force and 6 month son. Haven't lived up north since then. I spent a month in Michigan last summer in the RV. Didn't have AC and didn't need it. A fan was more than enough and even had to close windows and use blankets some nights.

just plain forgot.

Well, Tom says he'll be by at 4pm. Lord willin' n' the creek don't rise, I should be mobile again by the end of the day.

I learned to crochet recently. My first project was a little amigurumi erlenmeyer flask (like in chemistry labs) named Earl. Earl's usually lived at the head of my bed. Bizarrely, he's disappeared in the last 48 or so hours. So I'm kind of wondering what's happened.
