SNOWSTORM WEDNESDAY

Morning All,
Ye gads, is all I can say this morning. After rolling out of bed and looking out my window, all I see is a DEEP blanket of white. There is probably a foot of heavy wet snow out there. Hard to tell for sure cause the wind is blowing it all over. Actually had to shovel a path on my deck for the girls to get out and that was almost knee deep. I woke up around 1 a.m. and thought I would look out and see what was going on. A wall of white out there and I saw on the weather reports from out local TV station, that about 4 miles north of me here, snow was reported coming down at the rate of 4 inches an hour. I don't doubt it as similiar reports are coming in elsewhere. Where there isn't snow, its icing and bringing down power lines. And "thundersnow" is occuring south of me. Indeed winter's "last hurrah". 125 schools are closed as well as our County Busssing System. Everything is pretty well ground to a halt.
As for me, I'm not sure which way this day is going. I do have an appt. with my financial advisor this afternoon, but more snow is coming in and I will probably wind up cancelling out, as my drive is drifted and the storm warning continues into this evening. I can't even tell where my drive is except for the markers along each side. And Tessa just went out to go potty and poor dog wound up wallowing in snow up to her tummy. Definitely deep, no question about it.
My stove hunt is over. Found the one I wanted and will be here on Saturday. Just got one with the electrical elements. Decided against the flat top ones. Just liked the looks and features of the GE I bought. Had been eyeing it for a while so said that's it. Funny thing was, when I went to ABC Warehouse to look at it again, it was gone
. Aw nuts. But while I was standng there, the guy came wheeling anothre one out from in back. He checekd the model number I had and yep, same stove. I said SOLD
. So last night I made the last dinner in the oven of the old one. Lots of memories from that stove. All the meals fixed, the cakes, pizzas, cookies etc. we baked, the good times at the home on the lake etc.. Both my parents were still living then. I can still picture dad making his famous breakfasts for company and friends in the morning. And mom canning in the fall and the house smelling of tomato spices etc. Another chapter in my iife written and gone.
So am going to run the vacum around here and work on my camping sign. Need to attach my nameplate to it. Put one more coat of poly on my little remote control holder and then who knows from there. Probably go out and clear an area for the girls to do "business" as they are going to have a heck of a time out there. Oh well, it's March.
So have a wonderful day all. If you are on the road, travel safe. If you are in the path of this storm, be ready.

Windy, dry, and smoky. Almost sounds like the beginning of a joke, but it's just our weather today. A fire in the foothills is giving the air that special campfire smell.
I've been wanting to make a quilt for a couple of years and bought all the equipment, took a class, have tons of fabric, but never got started. I realized I was afraid of my sewing machine, so I started doing a few squares by hand. At this rate, I should have something completed by the time Bobby has finished college, but I suppose it's a start.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Good morning Sue, Amy & everyone that follows!
Sue, you certainly got another good snow. I hope you decide to stay home today rather than try to head out anywhere.
Amy, I have friends that quilt and admire what they do. I wish you well with your endeavor.
It's a cool, overcast day in MD. We're going to top off in the low 50's and have a chance of severe storms later in the day as a front moves through. The temperatures the rest of the week are going to fall with day time highs only in the 40's. I'm still hoping March will go out like a lamb.
Other than my usual chores at work and a workout after work, everything here is status quo. So I hope all of you have a peaceful day.

Good morning!
We are looking for a sunny day in the 50's today. Right now it's 21 and it feels soooo cold, though few weeks ago that would have been downright tropical. Funny how perspectives change. Rain again tomorrow, ugh.
Amy, I have always wanted to do a quilt too. My grandmother is still doing them. I tried to have her teach me once, but I was 20-something and toooo impatient. Perhaps this summer when I go visit.
We should see at least one, possibly two, firm offers on our health club by sometime tomorrow. Yay! So much better to sell vs close. If you have a moment, send us some good energy
We sure appreciate it!
Yay for new stoves and fond memories. Time to make some new memories!
Have a lovely day all!

Good Morning,
It is morning and I have internet access!
I am sorry I have not been on, but I have not decided if internet and TV satellite are necessary for me, and my budget.
I picked up a wifi boost, so hopefully that will help.
The first Habitat build was canceled so I stayed in GA longer at the fmca event; I had a terrific time! Left there and got the inverter fixed in Knoxville and now in nashville.
Attended the Opry last night,(loved it!) and plan to leave here Thursday, heading to Mississippi.
I need some writing time and some free parking, so I am going fishing at a friend's place where I can stay for a while. My next habitat build is in mid April, so I am hoping to get a lot of writing done and some money saved as well.
Supposed to rain about noon, so I need to get some errands run. Have a great day all....

Good Morning... cloudy to begin the day here in FL... I dumped the black water this morning and will dump it again before I leave next week...
I will take my time going home as it is not real good weather up there... My daughter Margie called and Scott from Japan is applying at ISU so he may be there for a while... my son Chuck called also... they have a new addition to their family a chocolate lab female about 6 months old I believe... my oh my that will be an interesting adjustment...
I will do laundry this afternoon... strange how I have to think about when I do it... at home I just put a load in and do not think about it... such is the life of camping...
Tomorrow there are 5 of us getting together for a lunch pot luck... should be fun... Angela our friend just got back from Switzerland... she should have some interesting stories...
What an opportunity when I camp to meet many people from different walks of life...
my fingers are much better just peeling now like a sunburn...
I trust you will all have a good day...

Good morning all --
Well, last night was my last one alone for the next 2ish weeks. My 13 year-old charge comes today after school, to stay with me until April 8.
Her brother's hearing was yesterday and he's was given a 3 month sentence and then will be deported back to Mexico. Don't know why they hold him for 3 months and then ship him off ... seems kind of wasteful to me. Frankly, I don't feel sorry for him a bit. But his little sister, on the other hand, bless her heart. She had a distressing conversation with her mom yesterday & is pretty upset. I don't blame her. Apparently her mom wasn't very nice to her. Don't know what that means yet, but please pray for her AND for CPS as we try to figure out how to best help her. Our hands are tied with what we can do, as none of us are legal guardians. She needs to see a therapist to begin working through what's going on, the school is reluctant to do anything without mom's consent ... it's a mess.
So, off I go to deal with my 30 fifth graders, and then home to deal with a 13 year-old without the family she once knew. I think I'm a little scared right now ...

Laura, you are certainly within your rights to be scared. I have faith in you. And If I can help in any way - I'm here. I'm sure that goes for all, but can't speak for everyone else. I raised two angst-ridden teenaged girls and they have survived. Wasn't so sure at times that we would all come out alive - but we made it! I'll be thinking of you tonight and sending warm thoughts.

GOOD MORNING ALL!
I see that it's only 10 degrees above zero back at home, and I suspect we might getting more snow up there, too, although I haven't checked the weather report. My truck won't be heading north for quite a while, if we keep getting below freezing temps and snow at home. I would love to be able to drive in my driveway without making horrendous ruts in it when I get back there. The memories of smelling of the spring smells from the evergreen woods, and hearing the birds return to the north country are motivating me to begin gathering stuff I will carry back there with me. I can't even remember which clothes I left there to wear for spring and summer, although I know I left plenty of winter clothes I will be staying there until after the birth of Mandy's baby, if all goes well.
Kath, glad to hear your fingers are getting better, and that you are having some fun times with friends before you head north.
Sue is still shoveling out, I am sure!
Laura, how did you get the job of taking care of the 13-year-old? I must have missed some info in one of the posts. You will certainly have your hands full, and will probably not want to let her go when the time comes, if things work out between the two of you. Does she speak English? What is CPS?
The swimming pool has cleared up a lot this morning, since we shocked and chemicaled it to neutralize and purify it last night. I wish I could stay here and swim,l but nobody should get in it for a full 24 to 48 hours after initial treatment.
So, I will go back to Orlando, work on taxes (figure out which credit card to use to pay the huge sum I owe) pay end-of-the-month bills, water my plants, and swim at the club pool. I also want to attend the meeting tonight about the state's plan to make my beautiful woods a bicycle trail. I suppose if it's that or a shopping mall, I will opt for the trail, of course, but I wanna know the facts.
All of those of you who are not feeling up to par, I wish you a speedy recovery, and may we all have a wonderful Wednesday.

Laura, the kind of loving care that young girl is going to get from you can do nothing but improve her perception of the world.
Good luck tonight. What's for dinner - PIZZA?
..

Not to hijack this thread, but thanks for your support everyone.
Soos, CPS is Child Protective Services. They're involved, but this kid hasn't become "officially" part of the system. She needs to be for many reasons.
Mitch, when I pick her up after school we're going grocery shopping. I'm not used to cooking dinner, as I usually eat my big meal at lunch. So that'll be another learning curve for me. I can cook, so that's not the issue. I'm just not used to taking time to make a meal after work.
Pizza sounds good. But we may go out for Mexican food so we can talk. Gotta set those guidelines.
Okay, the bell's going to ring. Off to the races!

Good morning all,
Laura, I'll be praying for you as you begin to forge a living relationship with the girl. I'm guessing there will be a 'honeymoon" period before you have to really start enforcing those guidelines. Keep us posted, we'll be thinking about you, and you will be fine. She's fortunate to have someone who really cares.
Talked to the neighbor today. Seems that
he, not Aunt B's lawyer, is going to draft a written (rent to own?) agreement to save legal fees. I'll see what he comes up with and if it'll work for me. He owns a property management co. and has been a realtor, so knows a little about it. I finished cleaning the stick house and have all my possessions out...so am ready to go at a moment's notice.
Meanwhile I'm doing a few maintenance chores around the RV. I finally sanitized my freshwater tanks (there are 2) so I can safely drink the water in them. Bought a little water purity tester from Walmart, and the water tested & tasted fine afterwards.
I bought a little Olympus digital camera that is waterproof to 10 feet (Birdie had one like it) to take on my sailing trip in April. I plan to do a lot of snorkeling and won't have to go through a bunch of disposables in order to get underwater pics. It'll also be handy when kayaking. So I'm charging and setting that up today too.
It's a beautiful day again here...hard to believe it's still snowing anywhere.

Good morning all! It is sunny here for now, but rain moving in shortly. I decided not to go to Laguna Beach today since it will be raining there all day and there really is nothing to do there indoors and it is a long drive just to meet this guy for coffee! So postponed our meeting until a nicer day.
May go to Palm Springs tomorrow if it is still rainy around here, to do some hiking.
Today I will finish my taxes and do laundry, clean house, job hunt, etc.
Minneapolis is socked in with ice, sleet and snow today too. March is their snowiest month of the year, so no surprise. I need to start working on flight arrangements for my trip back there the first of May. Using my dad's frequent flyer miles.
Laura, you will do fine. Teenage girls, especially, need their self-esteem and self-confidence boosted, and you will be a good role model for her, even if it is for just a short time. She will remember the positive things you tell her. Sounds like she doesn't get that from her mom. Very sad!
Have a good day!

Good morning all. It's raining here and was 65 in the house so I turned on the heater. The pups won't get their walk this AM unless the rain stops. Some times I take them to the outlet shopping center and walk there. Have a great day everyone.
Barbie the rain is probably heading your way. It's supposed to rain today and tomorrow here.

Got a call around noon from Vince saying the sun was shining in Laguna Beach, so I decided to head over there. Met him at a little cafe in Dana Point for lunch. We had a nice conversation (I kept it positive and light, no mention of my job situation, etc), and he seems like a really nice guy. I thought it went well, but when we were done eating and left the cafe, he shook my hand and said it was nice to meet me, said goodbye and left. Nothing was said about calling or getting together again, so I am not expecting to hear from him again. Oh well...
I went down to the beach for awhile until the clouds started rolling in and it was getting chilly out. Drove back home and got back just ahead of the rain. May still go to Palm Springs tomorrow...
