'HEAT WAVE' WEDNESDAY

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

'HEAT WAVE' WEDNESDAY

Postby Colliemom » Wed Dec 15, 2010 7:47 am

Good morning you all,

Here it is, 7:40 a.m., the sky is a bit cloudy but looks iike it will clear off and the temps are actually at 19 degrees! That's a "Heat Wave" for here. After having woke up to anywhere from zero to 6 degrees, and wind chills of -6 to -17, this feels balmy. The rest of this week and into the next, looks like temps in 20's and no snow other than some small lake effect snow showers possible. So will probably be seeing "ol sol" quite a bit here. If it were to really warm up, above freezing, say around 40, this snow would be really going down. But the winter sports businesses rely on this "white gold", so it has to stay. At least I don't have to bother with it.

So today.. Sassy to vet for vacination, Tessa for pedicure are first things on the agenda. Then might run an errand or two this morning. Come home and putter around here. Might get into my scrapebook again for awhile. Think I might take the girls over to the park and let them run around the parking lot a bit. Just to burn off some energy. Walking on leash gets boring after awhle, especially for Sassy, who's high energy. Probably won't be walking back through the campground as the snow is getting too deep unless my boss plowed, but I doubt he will. It's not somethng that has to be done. Last year we had little snow and a lot of melting, so he did. But this year is different. Snow, wind and drifts. Maybe today or tomorrow I might go in search of some winter pictures too. Shall see.

But just wanted to check in and say good morning. Hope all you in Fl kept warm last night and will be warming up, so you don't have to worry about frozen hoses etc. And can get out and enjoy being down there.

Good morning ladies, I know, I know, its odd for me to be on the puter
this early in the middle of the week but today is the day I go do my
training for the other job. Have to be there at 9. :D
Gracie is feeling a little better, but for breakfast she gets a dose of
mylanta as the diarrhea has turned bloody. I'm suspecting a case of
girardia as she was out in the back yard Sunday evening snooping
around and its nasty with bird debris from the two pine trees. My
vet has always recommended adding yogurt to replace the good
bacteria when they have diarrhea, just like in humans, its the
pro-biotic thing. Me, myself, I'm fine but I'm definately planning
on a good cleaning of the kitchen this weekend.
However, I'll be keeping on eye on Gracie and take her to the
vet if the bleeding continues.
Ok, I'm outta here, finishing up my coffee and jumping in the
shower in a bit.
Hope you all stay warm and have a good day.

ps..Colliemom posted before I did so I opened mine back up, copied/pasted
and deleted the other one. No sense in having 2 morning posts going. :D

I popped awake again at 2AM, same as yesterday. Once I'm awake my mind starts turning and then I know I have to get out of bed as sleep isn't going to happen.

Yesterday I went to my Xs lawyers and got the original copy of his Will. I was kinda surprised that all they wanted was a copy of my driver's license as proof as to who I was, but no proof that he had actually died. Then I went to see if I could get my hair cut, but they were full so that will happen this morning. After that my son/wife (DS/DIL), son in law (SIL), and I returned to my Xs storage unit and cleared out more "stuff". The guys hauled a load to the Goodwill, mostly clothes. The unit is paid up till Jan 31st, but I'd like to get it cleared out now and be done with it. Then starts the cleaning out of his boat and 5th wheel toy hauler. I also took over the fixings and make a big pot of beef stew. My DD has been dealing with her grief and then trying to cook for her family and her brother's family, too, so I gave her the day off.

Today at 4 I meet with my lawyer to start the ball rolling on executing the Will. I invited the kids to sit in on the meeting if they wanted to, after asking the lawyer if it was ok. He said he generally frowns on anyone other than the executor being there, but that it should be fine unless there is something sensitive that only he and I should discuss, then he'd ask them to leave the room, and to please relay that to the kids beforehand that that might happen.

I sure appreciate being able to share (which is in itself journaling) my feelings here as I've learned that journaling is an excellent venue for getting out your emotions/feelings. And by doing so here, I get feedback, encouragement, love and support. You are all so appreciated and important as I walk thru this season of my life. Thank you so very much. I am truly blessed.

We are having a heat wave here, it's 56 headed for 70. My DH decided on Monday that he had to put fertilizer on his rye grass. Nooooo, he couldn't wait until today for it to warm up and now he has a chest cold again from being out in the cold all day. He also bought some more calves so that means I get to doctor calves today. Anyone that likes to play Farmville can come play Farm with us. lol

I was up early yesterday to make sure my son made it to the dentist. He came back while we were going to the dentist so it was handy to get him in too. Guess what he is getting for Christmas, clean teeth. I get so aggravated with him about that. We spent so much on his mouth as a kid(braces twice because of an under bite) and taking care of his teeth is the last thing on his list.

I finished picking things up to send to my grandson. Have to get his package in the mail today. I have just about finished my Christmas shopping except for my sister. She likes to come and go Christmas shopping after Christmas when things are really on sale. Might wait until then to see what we can find.

Oh, Martha, I'd love to come and play with the calves. I grew up on a farm and in the winter we sometimes had several babies in the house to warm up and bottle feed until they could navigate on their own before returning them to their Moms. I loved when they finally got up and I'd try coaxing them into my bedroom! My Mom would get so mad at me! Of course I also broke the front porch steps when I tried bringing my horse in to the house! :o

Another great day here in Central Texas. Was sure warm last night as it never dropped below 56. However, it is a bit cloudy here with the wind. Hope it clears soon. It did hit 81 yesterday afternoon. We could, of course, do with another beautiful day. Didn't get the gifts boxed yesterday so that's only the list for today. Hope all you gals are able to enjoy whatever kind of weather you have today. If you are on the road, be safe and all of you must have fun.

Good Morning from sunny frozen Florida... I did unhook my water last night so no freeze happened to me... whew that is good... I wish I could lift the mattress so I could fill my fresh water tank but after several tries to put a 4 x 4 piece of wood under it I gave up... muscles are so wasted that I cannot do it... :(
There is hope though as I could not ride my trike in the cold yesterday and the day before it was only a short distance... I had muscle spasms most of the night... now that was not fun but it showed me I have stirred the muscles with my trike riding... ;)
Today will be a good one... I need to vacuum so will do that this morning... Shadow and I will take a walk/ride later when it warms up... :D
Lenora keep moving forward... glad you are getting so much done... when the lull comes expect more memories to crowd in... you are in my prayers daily...
Sue send the warm down to Florida please!!! Ava my vet usually says to use fresh chicken broth (no salt)... if that is tolerated add a few bites of the cooked chicken... that is very mild for their tummies... Martha I would love to come for maybe a few hours but no more... how many did he get for you? :P husbands never think they will get sick... Barbie we went to the Rose Parade I think it was 1972 and stayed on the street all night... we had a friend that knew another friend that had a mission church right on the route so we had hot chocolate and sandwiches and much more and a place to keep warm... that year it was sooooo cold... we were waiting for the sun to come over the mountain... ah ah ah it finally did... we got a movie of every one of the floats... good memories but I put the movie (super 8) camera in the back window of the car and the sun baked it so we did not get even one picture... so funny... but what a wonderful memory... 8-)
I changed the batteries around in the thermometer so maybe the outdoor sensor will register when it gets below 30...
Have a great day everyone...

Good Morning to All - finally we have a nice morning with sunshine. For the last couple of days we've had nothing but fog here on the beach. Nice in town but icky out here.
One of the other campers came over yesterday and help The Driver get the awning working right. Hadn't used it and it just needed a GOOD greasing and moving.
Got the problem with our ATM card cleared up yesterday - called them and of course on hold forever - and international roaming no less - oh well. At least it works now. And we told them we were going to MX!!! So they were concerned about the charges in Arizona -
We found churros in town yesterday - good and fresh and hot yummmmmm -
Have taken a bunch of pictures of "every day" life here that I will work on to put in a blog post. Much easier now that I have a new mouse.
Take care traveling all and enjoy the sunshine -

GOOD MORNING TO ALL!

It's so much fun to read what is going on in everyone's lives-----I love morning coffee!

It's 3 degrees at home, but, if Sue's weather is headed that way, there should be some warming up by the weekend. Records for coldness were set down here in Orlando last night, but it seems warmer to me because that horrible wind has died way back. It's nice and sunny, as usual, and warming up a lot. I will head over to St. Cloud after my laundry is done, and probably spend the night over there, making sure nothing froze in the trailer. Tomorrow we will all head back over here to have our night out at Disney World, taking in the sights.

I got some more bills paid today, as it's SS check day, and does it ever look good! Of course, it's nearly all gone now, but I have plenty of food to eat and should not have to go shopping for a long time----other than to get some gas, the price of which has skyrocketed this past week. ACK! At least I will get my real estate txes on this place in the mail today. I am also mailing my faulty tire pressure monitor sensor back to the company, who will send me a new one when they get this one. I will like to have those working when I make my haul to the GTG in January.

I need to think about exploring a route to that park without having to go onto toll roads between now and then, also. Google maps should give me some good options. This weather has not been conducive to exploring campgrounds lately! I would be using my truck cap and tent that attaches, and I think I would be mighty cold. Maybe the weather will moderate soon, I hope.

Here's hoping everyone is warming up down here in sunny FL, and that you northern people with snow to play in are able to get out and snowshoe, ski, snowmobile, whatever.

I bought my first (and only for my son) Christmas present last night----a Fushigi ball. He tries to do the stunts shown on TV with that with a softball, so I know he will love it! He told me the other day that he still loves to get toys for presents, so he will get one from Mummy Dearest! Now I have to think about Melissa-----she told me she would love to have a croquet set for the new house, so I will look for one of those. They just got a Bocce ball set, and now a croquet set would be really fun out there------cross-country croquet! (A game I made up over the years, using a regular croquet set but with different rules-----sort of a cross between golf and croquet!)

I have no idea what I will try to send Mandy and Joe back home, and Mema, too. I am thinking gift cards would be the best and easiest, and then they can all get what they would really like.

We need to think about making sugar cookies to give away, too----I have the makings, but am waiting for my recipe from home that Mandy is going to try to get to me before the holidays are all over.

Ava, I sure hope Gracie is much better today. Keep us posted, ok? Don't you have to use meds to kill those Giardia suckers?

Happy Wednesday to all!

Happy travels!

Morning to all from cold, clear Nashville, TN. We are finally back to school today for a half day schedule of exams. Tomorrow is also a half day of exams and then the semester is over. But while the temps are up to almost 30 there is another front heading our way. I had planned to stay at my desk to grade exams and put grades in the computer but we were told to head home as soon as the kids get gone. Guess they don't want teachers getting stuck at the school in bad weather. Should start to snow in about 3 hours and then turn to rain just as the temps begin to fall back into the 20s which conincides with the start of afternoon rush hour traffic. So I will take exams home and get my grading done there. I am tired of the cold and look forward to being in Arizona next week for the holidays. My big brother is in Casa Grande and he says it's in the 70s-80s during the day. I will be looking at making that area my homebase after I retire here in the spring. Will also check out the schools, not that I want to teach full time anymore, but I could supplement my retirement income by subbing in the classrooms. Anyway, a new adventure for me since I've been to Colorado and Wyoming but never the southwest. Wonder how Gus will like it?

Good Morning All
We are under our fifth consecutive day of "Winter Weather Advisory"; hopefully our last for a while. At least the winds have died down and the temps are a bit warmer. Todays forecast is a nasty one - freezing rain, sleet, ice. Some of the schools that reopened this morning are already closing as EMA officials are trying to get people to go home and stay there until tomorrow. Biggest concern is for bridges, roadways and threat of power outages as ice could bring down power lines and trees. Officials have announced that they will close bridges and overpasses as conditions worsen rather than use what little salt/sand they have as this event is not expected to last more than 24 hours. Tomorrows forecast is for rain and temperatures well above freezing; a welcome change.
I finished off my homemade chicken soup for dinner last night. Going to put more soup on for tonight - maybe hot and sour this time. I did get out for a few hours yesterday but will stay put today. There is nothing I need bad enough to risk getting caught out and not being able to get back up this steep hill to house.
Nicky is bored and in bad need of some "run/play time". Apparently I dropped a tube of toothpaste and failed to hear it hit floor (don't always wear hearing aids when here alone). Guess who found it and how much mess a dog can make chewing it open. At least his breath smells good this morning.
Better go put that soup on. Wishing all a safe and warm day.

Hello, Mornings gone here. Maggie and I went out for our morning tour of the yard and I started generator up in the r.v., let it run for couple of hrs, as it didn't want to start to easy, then ran vehicle for almost an hr. too, it always starts right up, but it also grunted a little bit this morning. We have possibility of power outage too, so it was time to make sure the gen was ok. It was a few days late this month to do this little chore and as its been so cold, think I might have been pushing my luck being late to charge those batteries up.
It was 9 degrees here this morning, so do you blame it? It was already set on the winter setting, so guess I didn't use it this past Sept. or if I did, I goofed, which sounds like me. I guess 'heat wave' might suit for here today, we might get to freezing, although sure doesn't seem so yet, needs to hurry, if its going to get here before the sleet and freezing rain comes this evening.

While different motors have been running worked on getting more cards ready for mail. I usually send out quite a few and enjoy doing it. Cozy in the house, but sure different when you walk out that door. Time for a break from this weather. Don't think its coming soon though.

Sarah, more soup sounds like good idea, I finished mine off last night too. Seems Nicky likes brushing his teeth huh?  My chuckle for the day.

Lenora, I agree, when something comes along we have to deal with, it is so good to have somewhere to vent and someone who cares what is going on with us. This sure is the right place for that. My prayers are with you, hopefully it all will be settled with not to much trouble. Let it all out here, so you can stay calm, cool and collected through it all. Any problem works out better if we stay cool :)

Hope everyone is staying warm, but also safe whatever you're doing, wherever you might be.
Take care
CArol :)

Almost forgot, Maggie and I didn't see this big cat that is around here, but we sure saw the tracks in the backyard the other morning. Huge prints, coming from my creek. I have a creek that is my property line down one side and he has been spotted in several spots on it. Thirsty I guess. As I said I have not seen it yet, but Maggie from time to time gets on a trail out there and won't give up. This time with new snow, the trail she wanted to follow was for sure this big cat. So I do know for a fact its here, not just heresy anymore. Scary!!!

I'm sitting here smiling about Nicky's toothpaste adventure. Peaches isn't thrilled when I brush her teeth, but likes her toothpaste (which is why she lets me do it!).

Let Nicky outside to run- it's not too cold for him. Peaches is loving running out here - problem being I have to go out with her. You have that wonderful fenced yard, can watch from the warmth of your house, Sarah :)

Back to work today - but the end is in sight! Woohooo - it's been an experience, and now I'm ready for that last night. Will be one happy camper on Saturday night!

We will be getting rain/freezing rain/snow overnight while working - so the roads will probably be pretty nasty driving back tonight. The good part? The temps really won't be going down overnight. We're working up to 31 from single digits overnight last night - and then only down to 28 overnight. My tanks should all be thawed tomorrow.

Carol - I didn't put antifreeze in - but they only are freezing for a day or two - only the grey tank froze on me last freeze - but this was was deeper freeze and longer. I expected it - and know that I'll be out of it tomorrow and into the next few days. Will have to remember that antifreeze idea just for those tanks, though. You did you the rv antifreeze, right? I wouldn't want to put anything else in the tanks.

HELLO SISTAHS!!!

Nasty gray clouds overhead here. Suppose to be getting rain and maybe some snow too in the next few days. Last night all night it was about 45f outside. We ended up shutting off my small heater and only running the bigger one on low. We were both roasting inside, finally opened the door just before I went to bed. Have no idea what time Kelly closed it? HA! But it's chilled down now, temp hasn't really changed much but the wind is sure blowing. My wind chimes are making mucho 'music' out there.

Would love to pick up a canopy for out front for us to sit under but that will have to wait of course! Kind of a bummer when we get crappy weather to go outside with Shade or to have a smoke. I even like to sit outside while it's raining just to listen to it, both of us do. And we both like to sit outside to read. Oh well like I said it will have to wait. Lots of good things have a wait to them! :D

OK, time to go check out the other postings and see what ya'll have been up to. Have a great day, get warmed up, stay warm, stay cool and be sure to be safe.

Love to all

Sarah, you need to be careful about the toothpaste. It can be toxic for pets. They say never to use people toothpaste to brush dogs teeth, only the special doggie toothpaste.

Here is what I found on the internet...

"Please do NOT use human toothpaste for your dog, for one thing fluoride causes cancer in them. For another, many things (i.e. the sweetener Xylitol) is deadly to dogs, but fine for humans."

"Xylitol (artificial sugar)
Xylitol is a sweetener used in many products including mouthwash, chewing gum, toothpaste, and various foods. Because it is toxic to pets, products containing xylitol should not be given to your dog or cat."
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)
