BLACK FRIDAY

Well, here we are, the day after or the famed Black Friday for those of you who are going out into the masses to shop. This lady is staying home. No Christmas shopping to do and no extra money to spend right now.

Hope you all had a great day yesterday with family, friends or whoever you were with. I enjoyed my time at my cousin's. Lots of chattng, good food and fellowship. And WAY to much food. It's the BEFORE appietizers that kill you. And of course we all overindulged. I don't know about anybody else, but the older I get , I can't eat that much anymore. Drove home in a wet snow that was making the roads a little slushy and also hard to see cause the wind was blowing the snow around. Couldn't use brights, had to use low beams and fog lamps.
It snowed again last night and now the ground is white aalthough I can see grass poking up under my big pine tree. Lake effect snow is supposed to set in today on the weat winds. We can see around 3-6 inches if the winds are right. Right now it's quiet out there. But those lake effect bands can be heavy at times and with a strong wind blowing, can create white out conditions, so getting into the Black Friday madness can be a bit dangerous.

I shake my head at the Black Friday sales thing anyway. In many places, it starts at Midnight. Up here it's anywhere from 3:00 a.m. on. Most people have been up since morning on Thaksgiving, a lot preparing big meals, others visiting and eating elsewhere. All of us for the most part tend to over indulge. By evening, the cooks are tired, the eaters are stuffed and moaning they ate too much and everybody's trying to stay awake. Then those wanting to shop are going to take off and hit the stores at midnight or just grab a little sleep and head out for a 3 a.m. start. That's going to make for drowsy and not so attentive drivers out there. After a few hours of running around shopping, somebody is going to have an accident. And with the possible white out cnditions, it is not going to make for a pleasant day.

I'm going to stay home today and start back on my kitchen project. Taking off the wallpaper on the soffits. Will remove and perhaps prime them so I can paint tomorrow. Forgot to get another small roller. I'll use the one I have here for the primer and get another one for the paint. Tomorrow is another day.

So have a great day everyone, whatever your plans are.Sue and the "Furry Crew"

It's raining this morning in Pigeon Forge, and expected to turn very cold this afternoon. Some of our group plan to do the shopping thing today, but if it clears off, my dd and I plan to do some hiking, maybe on the Appalachian Trail, or one of the many other trails in the area.

Yesterday was beautiful. After the big meal, we took the kids to the Titanic Exhibit in Pigeon Forge. If you are ever in the area, it is well worth the time & fare. You become "one of the passengers" that fateful day, and learn your story as you go along. Parts of the ship are recreated in scale, including the "Grand Staircase" which you climb. In third class you get to witness what it was like to have ice cold water pouring down the staircase...your only exit. The water is behind a glass partition and comes right to your feet and starts to rise. You see the accommodations in each class, walk down the first class corridor which uses mirrors creatively to show the whole length of the corridor and the curve of the ship. You get into a lifeboat as well experience the tilt of the ship at different angles as it goes down. You go to the pilot house and can see what the pilot saw, get the radio message, and try to steer the vessel away from the berg in under 37 sec., an impossible task. You go on deck and can plunge your hand over the side into 28 degree water. There are many artifacts on display from the actual event. Unfortunately, no photos allowed inside.

Stay safe today if you venture out in the crowds.

GOOD MORNING ALL!

It's very warm here again this morning, but we have a wonderful breeze. It's even warmer at home today at 37 degrees.

Yesterday we all pigged out pretty much all day long! Melissa made a big name for herself with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner which was perfect in every way. We were still eating, the pumpkin pie dessert, well after dark last night!

There is nothing scheduled for today, which is a nice breather. I plan to go to the auction again tonight (yes, they are holding it in spite of the holiday) to put a bid on those pretty padded bar stools with wrought iron backs in a leaf pattern. I have a dividing bar between the kitchen and the table dining area in my house in Orlando, and those stools would be perfect there! Sigh----I wish I were a seasoned auction person and not a wimpy novice! There are two stools. If it will be anything like last Friday, the place will be packed with merchandise from estates, sales, and who-knows-where. I will also look for a living room furniture set.

The pictures on the morning news of the Black Friday madness are shocking. What happens to people in these times of bargains, I am wondering. I would have loved to have gotten a 42 inch flat screen TV for under 300 dollars, but not in that out-of-control mob behavior!

I don't think I will be swimming today with this strong breeze that seems to be prevailing. But it was exciting to swim yesterday in the pond here----on Thanksgiving Day! (No gators in this pond, and it's very cold and deep once you step off the sandy shore.)

I hope you all have a wonderful day recovering from gorging, and that those of you, like Kathy, who are on the road, will have a safe travel day.

Soos, as an auction veteran - even worked for one once. Decide the most you will pay for an item BEFORE you begin to bid and DON'T go over that amount. I usually wait for the bidding to start - never start the bidding. I'll hang back and let others bid to see who's interested. I try and figure out if any of the bidders are dealers = they can afford to pay more for an item than you can sometimes BUT they also need to be able to mark an item up so if you can get an item for less than a dealer is willing to pay you've probably gotten a good deal on it. MAKE SURE YOU SEE WHO'S BIDDING. Less than honest auctioneers will sometimes pretend to have a bid from someone behind you to jack the price up when he sees you're interested. Bid slowly - don't jump in with your bid immediately - you don't want to seem too interested but do remember that auctions go fast. I always stand in the back of the room so I can see everyone who's bidding.

Good luck. Auctions can be really fun.

Well, I'm still in my robe, coffee at my side. It was bitter cold here last night and I cannot imagine standing outside waiting for some store to open -- deals or no deals.

Had a wonderful time last night with my son's family ... what a hoot. I had to tell my ex-BF-now BFF Frank that the three-minute rule was in effect. He was to limit his comments to three minutes ... and then let someone else talk.  He's one of those who will fill all available space and make others sit in silence whilst he waxes eloquent. He pouted for about an hour, then finally joined in.

I'm surprised he pouted ... I told him he could only come to last year's Christmas day dinner if he followed the three-minute rule. The previous Christmas he and another guy had consumed all the oxygen in the room.

The food was great, the kids were fun and the grownups had great conversations. That's what holidays are about.

So, here's one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving - the Leftover Sandwich - Italian roll, turkey, mashed potatoes (or stuffing), cranberry sauce, and a slice of American cheese, all grilled to perfection in the panini grill! YUMMO.

HELLO SISTAHS!!!

Yeah I know it's not morning anymore but oh well! I woke up at 6am, sat up, said the heck with it and laid back down. Went out like a light. hehehe Only thing is? I forgot I needed to get my turkey cooking in the crockpot. ~sigh~ Well it's in there and cooking now. ;) I am crossing my fingers that it comes out YUMMY. If not? Well we will eat it anyway.

It is beautiful outside today. Sun is shining it's very best and the temps ain't to bad at all. Going out with a t-shirt and sweatshirt, no coat! YAY After yesterday I am also hoping for a nice quiet day with no 'little jobs' to do! Sheesh!!

I see at least some of ya made it thru the big turkey day feast. But a whole lot of ya haven't posted yet. Hmmmm? What's a matter? Can't get up? Can't move yet? Ate so much your fingers no longer fit the keyboard?  That's OK, I'll be doing that tonight! :o

OK, I'm off to read a few other posts! Hope everyone has a nice quiet, comfortable day. Be safe.

NO BLACK FRIDAY here. No money!  But then again I have never done that black Friday thing anyway. Ya just ain't gonna get my butt to stand in any line at 3am in the cold to buy anything. ??? Well maybe if it was a brand new TT for $100? Yeah right!

Love to all

Got off work at 3:30 am - went outside to a car covered in snow. Wasn't bad - good thing as I don't have a snow brush/scraper :) Had less snow here at the campground - I expected more being on the water. Just goes to show - don't ever assume anything! Today is our coldest day so far. HIghs in the mid-30's. Tomorrow will get back to the 40's, day afer the 50's. Luckily the lows tonight aren't too much less than the highs - around 29 or 30. Will be a chilly walk at 4 am. Peaches will love it. These dogs with their fur coats. Prance in this weather.

I remember working years ago on Black Friday. I loved it. Believe it or not, the customers were usually so friendly on that day - at least from my perspective. For years now 99% of my shopping has been on line - so no, wouldn't go in the stores then.

Some are suggesting things will be busier for me now at Amazon. Won't change much for me - other than hopefully the pickers will be picking so fast that it'll be easier to find places to stow. Stowing has been difficult because every shelf in the massive warehouse has been stocked to the gills to be ready for the higher sales volume. What will be different are the massive amount of pickers who will be running around - and trying to avoid them :)

Happy Friday all.

Well, it's late afternoon, but thought I'd chime in....Nope, no Black Friday shopping here.... Too many years of working the other side of the sales counter for me to go out and fight the crowds... Besides, today is our 34th wedding anniversary, so am spending time with the Sultan, watching some football, and both of us on our laptops....now that the e-mail hacking mess is over, we're catching up with our own surfing...has finally rained here in GA....and the dust in now just plain sandy dirt...suppose to be cooler tomorrow....back to the jeans and sweatshirts.. :( Hope everyone is having a great day....

I just got back from shopping with a friend. The weather is so messy to be out but didn't want her to go alone. Not that she would have been alone. lol She found some things for Christmas but I wasn't really looking for anything. Tomorrow another craft show is in town so we will probably go to that too. I don't know why I like to go to craft shows because the only thing I ever buy is something to eat.

The Wizard of Oz is on TV. I can't remember how many times I have watched that movie and also Gone With the Wind. Happy Feet is on ABC. I have never seen it but my grandson loves penguins. For the longest time he had to bring his stuffed penguins everywhere he went. What a choice, The Wizard of Oz or Happy Feet.
