GOOD MORNING ALL!
Nine miners up and safe, with number ten on the way as I type! I have been fascinated to intermittently watch the rescue of the miners all night long, as I stayed up to see the first guy step out of that rescue cage. What an exciting time for all those families to finally hug their men! The guys who have been involved in the engineering and design of the rescue equipment need a medal and recognition forever in the annals of mining rescue. What a joyously happy morning this is! The equipment is simple, almost primitive, but has to be exact for it to do the job and fit up and down that shaft they drilled. Many things they had to think about as the miners come up a half mile from the bowels of the earth into the daylight.
It's only 25 degrees F. in my yard this morning, and was 50 in the trailer....didn't feel cold in my sleeping bag with Molly curled up against me, but nippy when I got up! The wood fire had died down in here, so my Monitor heater was cranking when I got inside. I am building up the wood fire again now, and it's feeling mighty good!
I think today I will try to stow all my stuff in the trailer for traveling, keeping the cooking stuff we might need accessible, and some clothes and shoes. I will try putting the canoe inside and my bicycle, to see if it's possible to travel with those two items and still have room enough to get to the beds to sleep and the kitchen area to cook some meals. I took out all my canned goods (I had already eliminated most of them anyway) this morning to lighten my load. I plan to travel with just jugs of water and none in the tanks to make driving easier and lighter. We can use rest rooms along the way whenever possible, and perhaps some campground showers when we get further south. I have a portable toilet in there, too, which can be taken apart and dumped in any restroom along the way....easier than looking for a dumping area and driving with a tankful of 'stuff.!'
I also need to learn a method for running my generator without unhitching, if possible. My generator is too heavy for me to lift out of the truck bed, and the tailgate door doesn't open all the way when I am hitched. I may have to change to my smaller generator and leave this larger one here, although, the larger one will run my AC if it gets unbearably hot somewhere and the smaller Honda will not run it. Just another puzzle to solve, and I am usually good at puzzles. (Other than acronyms!)
Wood fire is putting out some good heat now, cofffee is hot, so stop in and tell us what is on your list for today. Miner number ten is almost up now, so I will go watch this reunion! Three cheers for the rescue!
