FALL-LIKE SATURDAY

GOOD MORNING ALL!

No wonder I am cold in here today----my thermometer reads 45 degrees inside, and 40 outside! I see that it got down to 36 last night! ACK! Please don't let summer be over yet! I just turned on my furnace to allow my fingers to thaw out enough to be able to type!

I am sorry to not be getting ready to go to visit with three friends at a NY State bluegrass festival, but, as I posted in the general room last night, I need to get my blood pressure issues under control before I can do anything else. I will take a load of stuff to the dump today on my way to see the doc again, and I need to ask him about lessening the dosage of the latest meds he is trying on me to get my BP under control. I am in a situation where I am damned if I don't do something, and damned if I do, unless we can get the right dosage figured out. I kow that my circulatory system is not in good shape, and I need it to keep working for me for another 40 years, or so! I have too much to do and see yet to not do all I can to ensure I will be able to keep on trucking.

The sky is overcast after a crystal clear, bright moonlit night, but I think it should end up being a good day until later tonight when rain is predicted. We actually need some rain now, as it's been a long time without a good soaking. We have actually had one amazing summer....wonderful weather.

I did some scraping on my house yesterday, and found some buckets of stain to begin mixing up thoroughy to try on the siding. I will need to buy another can of decking stain to touch up places that my shovel scraped up last winter. I also replaced the door handle on my screen door and will need to paint that door to spruce it up.

Molly and I walked our loops around the property last night, and I can already smell some of the dead leaves that are falling off early from the hardwoods. I am nowhere near ready for fall yet, let alone killing frosts. I am looking forward to heading south this year, however, before the snow flies up here.

Here's hoping you all are having a good day wherever you may be, and that you can find the time to stop in and tell us what's up in your air space. I missed viewing the space station overhead this morning....was sound asleep at 4:30 am!

Happy Saturday!

Good Morning Soos and all other brave campers... it rained yea yea yea did not have to water... the ground was cracking so it was very dry... I had not watered my new planting for a week... so they soaked up the moisture... it has been HOT HOT HOT here...
This is the last day of the sale... yesterday there was not 10 minutes without someone or ones looking and buying something... we go from 8 to 12 today and then pack up the rest for the town of Normal (they will take all of the electronics and check them out to dispose of any that are bad properly)... I will take back a few very few treasures for another day... the rest will go to Good Will...
I have injured my shoulder again and the pain is almost unbearable... I will keep a stiff upper lip and rest after the day is finished...
You know Soos I think they have this retirement all backwards... we should have retirement when we are in top notch shape and work when we are broken down...
I must get on the road... have a good day everyone...
Kathleen

Kathleen, sorry to hear about your arm. Hopefully it will heal quickly. Glad the sale went well and today might do even better :D Soos, good luck on the BP fix. We landed in Niagara Falls, ON yesterday after having to call the highway patrol. Just as we were coming around the entrance ramp to the Thurman Highway, the bridge (over the highway) sign said 12 ft clearance :o :o . Bob managed to put on the breaks and there was, luckily, a side area that we could pull over. There was just enough time to stop before we would have hit the bridge. I called Fleetwood to check our height. He said 11"8" (didn't seem right to me). Just as we were pulling off the side area the phone rang and the guy yelled "stop". He had rechecked and we were really 12'8", which was more like I thought. (we couldn't find any mention of our height in any of the literature, which we had looked at before I called). So I called the Highway Patrol. The first guy who arrived said another car was coming, they would block traffic and we could turn around and go back up the road. The second guy came. He said that just before you made the turn, next to the speed limit was a sign that told about the height restriction  I didn't see it and even if I had, don't know if we would have had time or space to change direction. Anyway, to make a long story longer, it seems that they had raised the bridge to 13' and they escorted us under it. One of the HP said they could give us a ticket since there was a sign, but he didn't :D . Sure needed that glass of wine. So today, we're going to see the falls from the Canadian side and go to a small town called Niagara on the Lake. We're trying to decide whether to drive to Toronto (88 miles) in the car and stay in a hotel or drive the rig to a closer campground. carold

Just lost my post...will try to recreate.

Soos, sorry about your BP problems, and Kathleen... sorry about the continued pain. Hope you are both feeling better soon.

Carol and I are sitting in a church parking lot in the rain where we spent the night after Carol experienced brake problems coming out of the mtns. last evening. We have contacted a local mechanic who is on his way to check it out. I'll stay with her and see her safely home before continuing my journey to NE, but don't expect she'll be able to join me any longer, as she had planned. She'll want to make sure her RV is safe and ready for Arkansas in Sept.

We had a beautiful sunny day for adventure yesterday (before Carol boiled her brakes, that is). Check out my blog for pictures.

Carol, I can imagine the feeling when the brakes were applied - and knowing you best be able to stop. But after all that, it turns out you fit because their signs are wrong? Oh my. I still would be scared when you are that close to the height. Glad you are safely past there.

good morning ladies,
reading some great adventures you all are having here this week, some scary moments for some.!
Its been really hot still this past week but we did get a good monsoon come through here. Little
rain in my area but some areas had some real damage. Good news is that the escaped criminals
got caught here and are now back in prison. I'm so relieved as I had worried about all the ladies
I knew that were out and about and never knew where "Bonnie and Clyde" would show up.
My work schedule is going well and my bus aide is absolutely wonderful! She is a retired teacher
and really enjoys working with these special ed kids even though some of them are halfway
not functional. We have a few screamers and have found if we get them to sing songs on the
way home it is much better to hear than the dang screaming! Most of them are autistic with
ADD or ADHD. They don't really tell us but we do know we have a couple seizure kids, and one
CP girl with epilepsy from the high school. She has the magnetic implant for her seizure control
and also a cockler implant that is magnetic as well and if she lays her head on the wall by the
window the magnetic thing will stick to the wall and pull her hearing aid off. So, needless to
say, we have to check to make sure she leaves the bus with her hearing aide attached to her
and not the wall. She is also very sensitive to the heat and therefore its a must that our ac is
ALWAYS in good repair. Good thing her house is only 5 minutes away from the school.
Feel like I'm rambling so I'll just say thanks for the coffee and I'm going to go make some toast
for my breakfast and get started on some chores. Am meeting up with daughter later on today
as we need to put heads together to make some life changing decisions and come up with a
plan in case we need it. Hopefully we won't need it!
Enjoy your day be safe everyone.

Carold, been there done that. lol My son and I were on the side of a road trying to measure the height of my motorhome when we came to an old railroad underpass. Since then I measure my rv and write the height on a file label and stick it on the dash because I can't remember doodly squat anymore. I can see at a glance what my height is and I wouldn't take anyone's guess what it is. I'll tell you how we measure it. I take a straight pole and lay it on the top of the tallest thing on my roof(air conditioner, satellite dish, etc), put a level on the pole and have someone measure from the pole to the ground. This is a 2 man operation. I had to use a ladder because I can't get on top of this motorhome.

Carolyn, have a good trip to Mexico.

Nice tip Martha....I have heard about the card on the dash safety reminder. Being a shorter class C I watch but don't have to be quite as sensitive as you Class A and 5'ver folks. And Ava I understand all that you write because those details are what make a safe and happy bus ride for your students. Knowing the route and "just driving" ....is one thing...the stuff you and your aide watch out for and deal with and communicate back and forth with care givers....is what separates the bus drivers from the good "Special Ed bus drivers." Parents and educators will always know the difference! The bus ride into or from school can somethings make or break a child's day/afternoon. Sp. Ed/ Bus drivers and bus aides ROCK!

I agree with Tina, Ava.....your job can make or break the day for those kids with problems. Your group sounds very much like the classroom next to mine last year.....lots of serious medical problems, and emotional problems, and behavioral problems. The screaming was what really put my nerves right on the edge of insanity many days! Keep a huge list of songs so that their voices will be occupied with music rather than screaming! So glad you have a competent aide to help you so you can drive.

I like that method of measuring how high your RV is.....the next nice day I have some help, I will measure the height of mine, as nobody can tell me for sure with my AC on it. Thanks for that good method!
