Hope Improves

May 30, 2010 – 8:36 PM CDT

What a wonderful resource Lily’s fans are! Again, you all pulled together and came up with good help. Many people came up with great suggestions and your outpouring of concern and offers of help have been heartwarming.

Among the suggestions was a formula that simulates high-fat bear milk. Nearly all the ingredients were available in this small town. We were at the store this morning when it opened to buy canned goat’s milk (and we may be able to get fresh goat’s milk eventually) plus heavy cream, egg yolks, plain yogurt, fish oil, calcium carbonate, Vitamin B complex, and Vitamin C.

We were all worried that Hope was too weak to follow Lily after what we saw yesterday. When we saw on the computer this morning that Lily had moved nearly four tenths of a mile, we wondered if Hope was with her. You can imagine our relief when a perkier Hope bounced into view behind her. Could the cup and a half of sweetened condensed milk last evening have made such a difference?

Lily came over, with shy Hope came cautiously behind. She saw the same container she drank from last night and timidly came up beside Lily to check it out. She loved the new formula!

We were immensely relieved to see the difference in Hope’s zip today. Last evening, she could barely support her weight climbing a short way up a tree. Today, a sound startled Hope and Lily and they both shot up a tree about 15 feet.

Hope was more improved on our second visit this afternoon. After drinking as much formula as she wanted, Hope followed Lily 30 feet away where Lily sat down in the nursing position and Hope nursed. She couldn’t have gotten much milk. Lily’s breasts are now smaller and mostly empty except for the hard lumps inside, but the fact they were trying and the fact a small amount of milk was visible, makes us hopeful Lily will increase lactation. We are hoping the lumps in her breasts don’t turn into mastitis. A helpful lactation specialist today figured the lumps were the result of plugged milk ducts, and this can sometimes turn into mastitis.

We are so much more optimistic. Yesterday Hope was lethargic—lying around moaning and whining. Today she was playful—interested in objects to manipulate and initiating play with Lily once again. She has life in her eyes and seems almost her old self, although emaciated.

We will continue to bring Hope formula a couple times a day to the extent possible as long as she needs it. Hope has a strong appetite. She has teeth and is beginning to eat solid wild foods, which is normal for her age. This cub is going to make it.

Thank you for your good support. The anonymous donor has agreed to match 2 to 1 all your contributions from the time we announced it last night through the end of June, up to $100,000. So we’re off and running!

The above is he latest update by Sue Mansfield on the NABC website-----it made me be able to sleep way better last night! Poor little Hope has not been able to get enough of her mom's milk from Lily's caked breasts, and it has been many days of her wandering and stressing alone that has caused her to become so emaciated and weak. Yesterday, with supplements of a bear milk formula, she made leaps and bounds, literally and figuratively, and it made my heart leap and bound to read this!

GOOD MONDAY MORNING TO US ALL!

I need to secure stuff in here, pack up, hitch up, and be out of here by about 11:00 am this morning. I have had a super wonderful weekend, ending with a bunch of friends stopping by last night to wrap the whole thing up around a beautiful campfire. I'll be back in touch this evening, when I once again get reset and rehooked in my own nice little campground in my yard! I have some pictures to organize and post later today, also. In the meantime, stop by, have some coffee and tell us about your day!

Happy Memorial Day to us all. I will put flowers on both my father's grave and my father-in-law's grave in my own little family graveyard shared by our beloved animals when I get home today.
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

GOOD MORNING SISTAHS!!

Just a quickie morning "HI", to let ya'll know that we are still alive and kicking. Been busy up here doing our jobs. Kelly of course is housekeeping and I'm doing morning dishes. Whew the last 2 mornings we were slammed in the restaurant for breakfast. Took care of over 50 breakfasts by 9:30 am and almost all of them were between 6 and 8am day before yesterday. Yesterday we did something like 68 by 9:30am but they were stretched out a little more and it was just steady. New breakfast cook for this year did an awesome job and only asked for one hold on sitting people. Mardetta is a really nice woman and super to work with.

Still without a vehicle as the radiator for the Blazer hasn't come in. GADS! I hate being without a vehicle. Haven't been stranded like this since Kelly was about 4yrs old. Well the bright side is that a vehicle isn't needed to 'get' to work! :D

Even if I don't post very ofter I want ya'll to know that I think of you all and keep everyone in my prayers.

Ok, time to get my butt on the clock. Have already cleaned the bathrooms (off the clock) but I need to get my sinks set up for all the dirty breakfast dishes! Hope ya'll have a super great day and please remember to stay safe!!!

LOVE TO ALL

Least we forget, lets take a few moments to remember all the people, past (and present), that keep our nation free. May God bless them and their families.

Good Morning Ladies lazy day here... oh I found a wonderful card and if I had everyones e-addy I would send it to them... love to send cards to brighten everyone's day!!

The old sun will not let me be out in it for long... I think my infection has been sun poisoning... still on the nasty prednisone and antibiotic and ointment it is slowly getting better...

Gwen decided last night that she was so homesick that she needed to go home... poor girl... she misses her grand baby something awful... she will go now on the 8th... we changed reservations last night... she will feel better now... she got me through the rough days now she needs to take care of her family...

Margie and I are having a garage sale at her house sometime this summer... wow that will give me a chance to dump most of my over flowing rooms full of 'junk'...

Soos bummer to have to leave so early... That is one thing I like about the county park here we do not have to check out until 2-3pm... gives everyone a time for a lazy coffee morning and a brunch before packing up to go... to me that makes more sense....

Sorry Echo... being without transportation is ugly... glad you are working... keep Kelly under control!!! lol

Drive careful everyone and have a great holiday...

People have been pulling out fast and furious here this morning. Yah! LOL -- like it better with less of them. I can complain about the noisy kids, but actually like that they come and enjoy themselves outside without tv's, etc. I give kudos to all these families whose children come camping - no tv's especially. Even with all the rain here this weekend, they were mainly outside and finding things to do. That said, my neighbors were loud and obnoxious getting ready to leave this morning. I mean, we don't all have to get up at 7. Oh well. I guess they wanted an early start and banged away to get it.

Peaches and I just took another walk - still avoiding most of the trails. Too wet. But lots of territory we can cover even without them. Rain is still in the forecast here at least till next weekend on a daily basis. So glad that Eternabond is working so well. It's a wonderful product and I'll never (well, shouldn't say never) use caulk again around all the roof stuff.

Have a great day everyone.

It has been a rainy weekend but NOT a total washout. Most days have been at least half sunny. Actually we are trying to get the wet weather over before Tina arrives next week.
No big plans for the day. Quick trip to cemetery, pay some bills, those sort of things - maybe finish planting some flower pots for the porch. I usually have that done by Easter weekend but did not happen this year. Chipmunks are really bad to dig in them anyway. I did have 4 little basil plants; only one survived being dug up and replanted too many times.
Looking forward to pix of your holiday travels.
Coffee all gone, time to get to work.

Good afternoon all. I'm just back from 'trying' to get a tire fixed that went flat yesterday. They couldn't find the problem and didn't charge anything. :) Now I will hope that it doesn't go flat again!

Today we are having lunch with my DD ex-in-laws. One of the sons is in Afghanistan, so much worry for everyone. The other sons works on and off for a few weeks in Nigeria. What a combination for the Mom! On a happier note we are going to a local barbecue. I eat meat only rarely for something special. This will be my splurge for this quarter.

My DGD had a week of swimming lessons and she has become a little fish. Absolutely LOVES the water and swimming. Every day or so they come over to swim in my condo pool. It's more fun! I am going to miss them next week when they go to France and I head home to CA. :(

OK, hope you all are having a good day. Hugs to all on this holiday afternoon!
