SUNNY WARM SUNDAY!!

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

SUNNY WARM SUNDAY!!

Postby Nasoosie » Sun May 16, 2010 8:19 am

GOOD MORNING TO ALL FROM MY FRONT PORCH!

The sun is SHINING! The sky is blue! The White-Throated sparrows are singing their "Old Sam Peabody, Peabody, Peabody" songs, along with Robins and warblers and thrushes and crows and others. It's not necessary to wear gloves to type! (Almost 47 degrees already!) All's perfect in my world for the moment!

Yesterday I hitched and hauled my trailer to the dealer's for the first time with this new truck. Once I got out onto the highway, (just one lane each way, but a highway for up here in the boonies) I felt some awful swaying and lack of control. I thought something horrendous must be wrong with the way I hitched up, or else this truck, that has some sort of new sway control built in, was going to take some getting used to. I also have a humungous Reese sway control hitch. The brakes seemed to be working fine, and the power on the hills (most of which is downhill from here to the city for me, however) was fine. I had pushed the button to take off overdrive, which said on my panel notices that I was in tow/haul mode. It felt as if I was driving a trailer full to the brim with water in all of its tanks, sloshing from side to side and forward and back, although it was completely empty! So, I slowed down a bit, took my time, allowed a few exhasperated souls to pass me when it was possible, and white-knuckled it to the dealers, keeping in mind that those tires could blow out any minute, anyway, as two of them were rotten to the core! (Brand spankin' new Duro tires, but rotten!) I looked at the trees along the way to see if they were blowing in the wind, but up here where I live, there aren' t anything but teensy little baby leaves out, so I didn't see evidence of wind.

However, when I got down into the valley where the leaves are out, I saw evidence of wild wind! So that was the end of my wondering----I had been driving in very windy conditions----something I had never experienced before! In fact, on the way home with the truck alone, I was still being blown to kingdom come! A few other customers who came into the dealers while I was there commented about the wind, too. So I guess my hitch and stabilizers and truck and all did a great job of keeping me on the road! What a relief! But I vowed, as others have said, to avoid windy conditions on the road whenever possible! I am wondering if Cedar had the same condiitons on her route to the city?

Then I went to the mall and visited Gander Mountain with my 20.00 discount coupon I had downloaded from the net! I must have spent about 2 hours in that neat store, looking at everything imaginable, putting things in my cart, taking them out of the cart and putting them back, getting other stuff, on and on I went! I ended up getting a combination grill and burner stove with piezo lighting by Coleman that was on sale to begin with, and a coffee mug to bring my total up to the 100 dollar mark so the coupon would kick in. I have been watching prices for one of those, and yesterday was a deal. I will use it in my truck camper, my trailer on its outside table while boondocking, and in my house when I am home, as I don't have a stove in here. (It burned up one Thanksgiving in the 80s and I have never replaced it! You can see how much I love cooking!) And OH the things I passed up, including some wonderful tents!!

Then onto Best Buy I went and bought photo paper and a couple of thumb (flash) drives to store my pictures on so I can get rid of all the diskettes and CDs I have amassed over the years. I will scan ancient tintypes from my great grandparents, and old black and white photos my father took over the years, and put those on the drives, also. I will label as best I can as I go, so my kids will be able to take a look at their ancestors. Just one of the many jobs for me in my retirement hours on rainy days!

I looked at wireless printers I could take in the trailer, but didn't see the 'perfect' one yet. Any suggestions for printers on the road?

I finished up with a grocery shopping trip to Hannaford's---a place I have never shopped in, to see if I liked it. One is being built up here near me in Lake Placid for next year. I prefer Price Chopper or Grand Union still----I get used to certain brands of foods and goods and when I can't find them, BAH! Prices at Price Chopper are better, also. And your purchases earn gasoline discounts.

Coffee is hot, and I am loving being out here in the sunshine! I will take apart my lawnmower today to see if I can find something to tweek to make it run better, and I will dump out all the gas in it now....where I will store that is a problem.

Stop in and tell us about your day!

Happy travels!

good morning
its nice outside right now but its gonna be hot again later on. Have been trying
to get back to normal, feeling like I don't know what that is anymore. Cleaning
and packing stuff away that is making me grieve too much, better off to put it
away and get it out next winter. Had an invite to go over to a friends and watch
whatever cable movie will be on, am hoping for a good sci fi flik. The girls
will enjoy the outing as well. If I'm lucky, someone will order pizza.
Enjoy your day and I certainly hope you have great weather where you are today.

I woke up to a nice cool breeze coming in off the porch, with the birds singing, the sun shining and the smell of summer! Can't wait to get outside today! I was suppose to get my car fixed today (new struts put on) but haven't heard from the mechanic yet, so I think I will find something fun to do outside instead! I haven't decided if I am going to take a bike ride on the trail, take a walk thru the Landscape Arboretum (woods, prairie, flower gardens, waterfalls, and wetland trails), or play golf! Tough decision! Maybe I could fit in all three! If I had a boat I would be on the lake today! I would imagine it will be very busy with boats out there today as it was yesterday!

Hope you all have a great day and the weather where you are is favorable!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Raining when I got up this morning - talked Peaches into snuggling in bed awhile longer till it lightened up so we could walk. Have gotten 3 loads of laundry done - and other chores - aren't you glad to know that?

Soos, my criteria was small. I got a cheap small printer - cuz I hardly use it. If you really feel you'll use one a lot, you might want a bigger one. I did not get an all-in-one printer - but have now purchased a scanner to work on my project of scanning in all my old pictures to thumb drives, etc. Neither are wireless - as I have to get it out to use it and hooking it up is no biggie. My scanner doesn't need electric, tho - just needs usb to the computer. You need to judge how often you'll use the printer. I probably could get rid of mine but do like the convenience on the rare occasions I need it. (Tax time, in particular :) )

Have a great day, all.

Got my morning work done in decent time today. My back is killing me, though. I think I hurt it while yanking my water hose around on Monday when hosing out the shelters. Think I'll let XDH do it this week ;) Feels like my discs again. I had to have an epidural a couple of times, but it has been a few years. I hate to do that, but it sure works! I'm trying to tough it out. Maybe a back brace would be good while I'm working.

I thought I would update my avatar, etc. on here...I'm trying, Barbie! I did get my photo changed on my signature, but having trouble with my avatar photo. For now, there is nothing, but I will work on it again later. I'm hoping DXH brings his laptop over when he brings Gizmo for me to babysit today. Then, I can try to transfer all of my photos from it onto Photobucket. I will have more choices of photos then. I looked online for trucks again today and found another I would like to go see tomorrow, if they still have it. It's at the place that does our mh maintenance, so maybe they will make me a good deal

Getting pretty cloudy. It's supposed to rain so it hasn't been too busy out here...mostly cyclists off of the bike trail to use the comfort station. Shouldn't be too messy tomorrow. They did open a loop that has been closed since the floods of '96, so that adds another comfort station for me to clean and lots of picnic pads w/grills. It's right next to the river, so mostly people going back there to fish. I talked DXH into closing one night on the weekends. I have been doing it 5 nights/wk so it would be nice to have a break and maybe get to bed early one night.

Well, better eat a bite of late lunch and get some projects done. DXH is bringing some chairs of mine that his daughter has been keeping for me. One is a massage chair and someone wants to see it tonight, from my Craigslist ad. The other I would like to use in Myrtle....maybe remove a chair or couch to make room for it. We'll see! Have a great day, girls!!!

Man, I wish acupuncture was covered under insurance! My back really hurts and I have my big cleaning day tomorrow :x I'm not good with a lot of pain killers and anti-inflamatories since my stomach is so sensitive. I may have to give in and go to the pain management doctor for an epidural. I hope I get relief soon, as the weather is supposed to be real nice this week and I want to wash Myrtle and bathe and groom Rags.

XDH picked up my two chairs today from his DD. I listed one on Craigslist and a guy wants to come see it tomorrow. I'm sitting in the other one :D I took out the side chair by my door and put it in my shed. This one I can move around to face my TV and it is ergonomic so it will help my back ;) If I had a place to keep my sofa, I would consider taking it out, too, and putting the massage chair in here. It is pretty heavy, but not sure how heavy the sofa is. If I do that, any guest would have to sleep on the dinette, converted to a bed. Makes for more work! Or they would have to sleep with me  Guess I better leave it for now. I would love for my brother to put hardwood or laminate floors in here 8-) Oh, I forgot to tell you I got a new coverlet and pillow shams for my bed. I'm going to use the floral quilt for guests. My new one is green and I love it! It goes better with the window treatments.

Tried to get my picture files off of XDH's computer today, but Photobucket was giving me fits :x I texted my son with some questions since he is the computer geek :geek: We decided it would be easiest to just put them on an external hard drive. I will get one and put them on it so I can transfer them to my laptop.

Almost time to make my rounds and lock 'er up! Have a great night, girls!!!
