WARMER FRIDAY

GOOD MORNING ALL!

I am at home today, as I noticed during the mdidle of the day yesterday that my feet and lower legs were swelling up like a fastened-on wood tick on a dog! I have notice for the past few days that my feet looked puffy at night, but seemed fine in the mornings. Yesterday I checked on and off all morning, and decided to go to the school nurse when I saw them looking like someone else's feet! She told me to "call your doc right now and get in to see him." When I called the office from the school nurse's office, they told me no doctors were in there today! I guess they are all on vacation???? So our nurse got on the pnone and asked them what was I supposed to do? They said to go to the ER. Good grief! It wasn't a life or death emergency, so I took the phone back and asked the receptionist if I could have my latest blood tests faxed to the Saranac Lake branch of Urgicare. She about had a fit and said, "I don't know anything about Urgicare!"

So, of course, off I went to Urgicare, a walk-in health center with NO WAITING, usually, and no appointment needed. I was seen right away, the doc called the hospital and got my cholesterol blood results (still the same old high as ever----he will deal with that after this blood-pressure edema thing), took my blood pressure which was my usual sky high, called Kinney drugs to see what drugs I had tried over the years for both pressurized blood vessels and fatty-lined ones, and discovered the latest blood pressure one, Norvasc, had as its number one side effect, "peripheral edema!" Precisely what I was experiencing. Before my doc left for vacation, I had bought a new BP cuff, and was horrified at the nuimbers, had called him, and he had said to double up on the Norvasc and see him next week when he gets back. It was only in the past two weeks I had been noticing my swollen feet, so he has changed my BP meds, and we will try this new one today. It's one I have never taken, so worth a try. So, here I am, following his orders to keep my legs up (ahhhh....my recliner!) until all swelling goes down and montitor my BP I have an appointment with Urgicare's BP expert next Wed., and will cancel my appointment with my regular doc. So today is the beginning of accurate monitoring for me, and my new BP pill! (As a side note, I talked to my bro last night, and he said he had to stop Norvasc because his "hands and feet swelled up like bloated fish!")

It's warm as heck out today----up to 36 already, and rained most of the night. I am cozy here in the house in my recliner, so will look forward to hearing from you all as you stop in for coffee! I need to arrange for a recliner in my trailer later when it stops raining!

Happy Friday!

Wow, Soos. Hope the drs. can get you on the right meds to control that BP. Go ahead and use some of those sick days.....your work assignment this year isn't helping that hypertension, I'm sure!

Roe is still hobbling on 3 legs and looking pitiful in his plastic cone. But he'll have to keep it on, because the few times I tried to give him a break, he went right for his foot with his tongue. The vet only gave him 2 days of pain meds, so if he hasn't started bearing weight by tomorrow a.m., I'll call him again & see if he needs to look at it. (Vet is open Sat. a.m.) Maybe it's the metal staple that's bothering him. That doesn't come out until the 26th.

Nothing much planned for today....allergies are bothering me too much to do what's needed in the yard. So, I'm working on a puzzle with a picture of Glacier NP where we were last summer on our way to AK. Awaiting my week's worth of drs. & dentist appts next week, so I can make preparations to get back on the road.

Looking forward to hearing about everyone else's fun times/travels today.

Soos, hope everything gets under control soon. tGM's blood pressure took off this year after having it under control forever. His dr first tried just upping his prescription which didn't work so added another and also a beta blocker. Now it can be too low at times  -but seems to have done the trick. One of my friend's cardiologist also prescribed her a beta blocker which seemed to work for her also. I think it has to do with calcium??? Roe, hold up your paw and I'll give it a kiss-always seemed to work for my son and gks  Another beautiful day here in Asheville. Going to play tennis and then trying to talk tGM into visiting the gardens at Biltmore. He's out scouting some auto places to check our tires and our cab air. It's gone on the blink again like last year-maybe another hole in the hose?? We're supposed to fly out of Raleigh next Wednesday for our trip to Holland-hope that ash clears up or we're out $$$$. carold

Good-morning Soos , Liz and Everyone else.

Soos, I'm so sorry to hear you're having a problem with your BP meds. My Dad did several times, seems every new dr. wanted to change them and one time he even grew boobs! He was a character, so he had a lot of jokes about that. You stress out so much over your kids at school, that BP meds are going to have a hard time keeping it low for you. Might as well use some sick days and try to relax for a few days.

Liz, I'm sorry to hear that Roe is still in pain, but surgeries and pain on animals would last longer then two days I would think, it does for us. Seems the vet would have given a few more days worth, for you to have in case. Even after the staple is taken out, he is probably going to be licking it. Sure hope he feels better soon, worries with him are probably not helping your BP. Take care!

Except for the pollen, plugging me up, I seem to be ok here. The young man across the road brought their tractor over and really did a job on all of the briar bushes etc. around my yard. Now, I have to get out there and pick up limbs etc. and clean it up some, he did the best he could with the rake on back of the tractor, but still left me more then I want to do. I have this sickness, called LAZINESS,   I have to add we are talking an area of an acre or more, and I'm past the yrs of wanting to do this kind of work. Sometimes having a man around might be handy, (if he was the working kind). Must get out there at it, while its still cool, everythings got morning dew on it, and stuck to my feet when I took Maggie out, so not going to be a fun job!!! Well, thats enough whinning from here.

Have a great day everyone, Hope someone is having fun and will write about it, so Soos's, has something pleasant to read.

Safe and Happy travels
CArol
seems Carold and I posted about the same time, hope your travel plans work out, sounds like a fantastic trip, we will get pics, won't we?

Good Morning..all
It is been crazy couple of weeks. Easter and Spring Break were fun..wish the weather would have been nicer...we are finally having some nice days. I really hope they last..I am getting too old to put up with the cloudy, drizzle days...I mean if it's going to rain..it needs to rain..and get it over and done with.

I am happy to report my oldest has a temporary job..not what he was looking for..but better then nothing. He is working security at the oil refinery, during the "Turnaround"..it is when they do a shut down and maintenance of certain equipment. So several of the full time security personal get pulled over for safety watch and they have to hire extra part-timers to fill those other shifts. It has been frustrating for the young people to find work..so many places now want "work experience" even many of the fast food places have gone the way of wanting people to have work experience. My question has been...if no one ever gives them a chance then how in hades are their suppose to get work experience. The unemployment rate doesn't help in that area either. I will say that there are a couple positions that will be open for part-timers once the turnaround is done..and the security dept, actually uses the turnaround period to determine what part-timers to keep on...so hopefully he is one of those.

Kodie had her appt at Children's hospital yesterday for her sleep issues..should I say lack of sleep. She has a very hard time falling asleep and a few nights a week..she is up no later then 5-6 am. They agree that she will need a sleep study..talk about a appt scheduled out there...Oct 7th. In the meantime we have been given some things to try. She has been on melatonin but I said it stopped working for her...turns out we can give her more, you can take up to 6mg's. She has been on 2 mg dosage. So we will gradually add more until it starts to kick in and work again. Then there are a couple other things to try. One will wait til summer when I do not have to be up at 6:15am. It is reteaching her brain that bed means time to sleep. We should all fall asleep within 15-20 min. of going to bed. If we go to bed and lay there for an hour or two then our brain no longer associates bed with sleep. The idea is to then keep her up 2 hours past her go to sleep time..(not bedtime) but the time when she falls asleep..which for Kodie is usually the midnight to 1am time frame. So we would stay up til 3am. Then put her to bed and listen to make sure she is asleep within in 15-20 min. Then each night you back it up by 15 min..2:45.2:30, 2:15, etc....until you have the brain retrained.

I will admit with spring break/then the nice weather this week..we have gotten off track on the putting the postcards in our book..but we plan on getting back onto that here next week. We have them sitting here..and she loves getting them in the mail.

Soos, Hope they get the medication figured out that will work best for you.
Liz, I hope Roe gets to feeling better soon..it is so hard to see the animals injured, healing from something and they can tell you things.
Carol....if we lived closer I have a teenage boy wanting to earn $$ for these Nike shoes he wants. He has spent several hours this week cleaning up our yard/forest area..it gets so messing during the winter months, with the wind, and downed branches and we lost a couple small trees this year, so he has been sawing them by hand into smaller sections. That will eventually be cut even smaller and used for campfire wood.

Well I better be getting off here..it is a busy day, Kodie starts up horse riding today..they stop during the winter months as the place doesn't have a covered arena.
Then one of the boys is headed off with the youth group for the weekend...up to MT Baker..for one last tromp in the snow.

I hope Kodie can be trained to go to bed at another time. It only took me over 50 years. I never could sleep during "normal" sleeping hours - even as a baby. I am my best if I go to bed in the middle of the night and sleep till late morning. My body functions best then - and can be even better if later :) So, during all my school years including college, I never got enough sleep at night cuz I would be up most of the night, only get a couple hours sleep - then HAVE to get up cuz the rest of the world didn't believe in my hours. On weekends, I'd often sleep for 12 or more hours straight when I could. When I owned my first business, I worked 2nd shift - my partner took first - and for the first time in my life, I felt "normal" - well as normal as I can be. On the other hand, because I was so used to so little sleep and then a long sleep - I was able to work any shift. But I have never liked days. Would pick working 3rd shift over them - although I'm not sure about that anymore.

Living in the motorhome and boondocking - my body actually gets in the cycle of the sun - day and night. Course, that got screwed up in Alaska, but other than there - I get into more of a normal environment. When it's dark, my body starts relaxing and heading to sleep. I live in the daylight hours most of the time. That's worked for me.

I hope Kodie has it work out for her. Good luck.

And to the rest of you - have a great day. Soos, you be careful and I'm glad you saw what was happening and were proactive. That could have been very dangerous - especially if you'd waited and kept taking the meds that were causing it.

Liz, hugs to Roe - hope the pain goes away and things get more normal very, very soon.

Soos, Norvasc was the first one my Dr put me on and I also had swelling. He then added atacand to counteract that. I was on those two for years but after my first chest pain episode last year the cardiac Dr asked why I was still on Norvasc as that was an older used drug. He then took me off that. All was fine until a couple months ago when I started getting major dizziness after taking just the atacand. About that time is when my chest pains started again and I was in the hospital at the end of Feb. From there my regular Dr put me on another bp med called lisinopral (totally misspelled). I had my follow up visit with the cardiac Dr yesterday and my bp was 150 over something (never did hear what), and he then doubled my dosage I'm to take. I was on super low dosage anyway at 2.5 mg. I went back to taking my meds in the AM. Just easier for me to remember, and so far I feel no side effects. FIngers crossed. Hope your new meds work out and glad it was caught early. Take care.

Thanks for the update on Roe. Poor fella! Hope it's just that darn staple.

Kris, good to hear from you. I need a nap just reading your post. That is a long way out for Kodie's appt: Oct 7th?!!?

Everyone, have a great day!

YAHOOOOO!

Recorded my first EVER, since I have been checking my blood pressure with my cuff device and now my new upper arm cuff, NORMAL pressure!!!! I am shocked at how much it has dropped sinced yesterday at this time! I am down from 185/100 yesterday morning to 117/73 right now!!!! Now my question is, why on earth didn't my own long-time doc EVER try me on this new medicine SOONER???!!! (YES, Lenora----it's Lisinopril, like you are taking now.) I have been taking readings every 4 hours today, and for three times each time. In all cases, the last readings of the sets are the best/lowest. I truly cannot remember ever having any normal BP readings in the past 20-30 years.

I have moved back to the trailer, and moved a loungechair out to the aisle in here for tonight, just to keep my legs up a while longer-----although there is absolutely NO sign of any edema today. My ankles and feet are my own again! After 24 hours with no Norvasc at all, the swelling went right down, even before I began the new stuff this morning.

Glad to hear Kodie will be getting some sleep help, and that your son has a job, Jemek----- jobs are like geting gold today!

Now for some supper with my new way lessed-stressed blood vessels!

Yes that was not a typo..Oct 7th. I think it has to due with the lack of sleep centers that will see and treat children. As far as I know the center in Bellevue (part of Children's Hospital) is the only one in the State. We are on the cancellation list...not sure how will that work out as we are 2 hours away.
