TUESDAY WITH SNOW

GOOD TUESDAY MORNING TO ALL
It's about 24 degrees here, no wind, and we have about 3 inches of snow on the ground at last. I am so hoping it stays around now for the winter. I can then get my skis out and ready to roll, or slide, as it were. I know that large storm in the central part of the country is headed our way for tomorrow. A snow day off from school would be fun!
I'm not sure if I mentioned that the bull moose that had been hanging around here for this season was killed by a car the other day, or not......but it wandered out onto Route 3 and smashed into a car, overturned it, pretty much totalled the car, and definitely totalled itself. The car occupants made it through safely, thanks to seat belts. Everybody recognized him from his unique set of antlers which had a weird twist to them. This was the 4th moose to meet its demise in this area of about 2 miles of Route 3 in the past 4 years. Moose seem to have a definite circuit of travels, and, unfortunately for both them and people in cars, this particular circuit leads across the highway. There should still be a cow moose and calf around the property, but I haven't seen any tracks in a while now. Molly and I walk each day after I get home from school, and have seen only deer and rabbit and coyote tracks lately.
We made another 10 wreaths yesterday at school, and have pretty much now satisfied our orders for this year. Now it's time to make ourselves some to bring home. Then we begin to make birch bark signs to meet the orders of others for those items. I've never made those yet, so it should be interesting to learn what that entails.
I hope all of you on the road are safe and sound. We missed hearing from Kathleen last night in the chatroom, or yesterday on the post boards. I assume she just didn't have internet access, I am hoping. I hope we get some word from her today. Anyone else out there, keep your eyes on that storm heading east and northward.
Coffee is hot, wood fire is blazing, so stop in and tell us about your day.

We've got the wind here in Yuma, I cannot sleep when the motorhome is rocking from the wind!!
Another Moose bit the dust huh, Moose are weird animals, we saw what was left of a car after hitting a moose in Alaska, now I know why some trucks put the guard rails around the front!

Hey, long time no Seeya, Jenny! So good to see you post. I've been missing your great pictures. Are you all decorated up for Christmas? You always did a great job at that. Me, I hung a wreath on the door and got out my nativity set...all done. No kids coming here this Christmas and my cat had too much fun with the Christmas tree last year!
That's too bad about the bull moose, Soos. Cars are no match for them; it was fortunate the humans are ok. Sounds like it's time to wax the skis...do you still do that? A snow day off from school is just what the dr. ordered, don't you think? Wish I could ski the trails with you...that would be neat. It's been many many years since I did that, but mostly snowshoed.
Cleaning house today (translate vacuum up the cat hair again) and have a holiday pot luck to attend this evening. I'm bringing green bean casserole. Easy is what I do best.
Hope you all have a safe day, especially those on the roads today.

Good Morning All - from the beach at Huatabampito, Sonora, MX got here yesterday around noon. We are pulled up right to the beach front wall. Getting warmer as we get more south. Almost 80 yesterday. Ended up on a couple of bad roads yesterday. Took the truck route around the city of Navajoa and found out part of the road had been washed out last Sept. Oh well, Jennie took it in stride. Lots of wind on the road today though. The Driver's attitude is "if the trucks can go there so can we." So we did. Have been keeping my blog updated but not fooling with photobucket lately.
Safe travels for everyone.

GOOD MORNING SISTAHS!!!
Hey Jenny where the heck have ya been? Been wondering what had happened to ya as I haven't seen ya post in awhile! So good to see ya on here this morn.
It's a chilly, damp 38f here this morning. Feels colder tho cause it's so damp outside. Says it's suppose to rain today and tomorrow and then snow on Thursday. Got the wood stove cranking in the house this morning getting the place warmed back up. One thing I will be buying David for Christmas is tools to use to clean out the wood stove as the only thing he has right now is a poker. Last time I cleaned out the ashes I used a old small beat up cast iron fry pan and a big pot that had been out in the barn. Sheesh! Any other thought on gifts for anyone else are like smoke in the wind at this point.
Kelly and I are going into Kingsport today. I need to go to Hancock Fabric to get some fleece to use as edging on the blanket I'm making Conner and I will check Tractor Supply for the tools for David. Kelly wants to go to WalMart to pick up the gifts she's giving the kids. We are taking it really easy buying gifts for Christmas this year. Only gonna buy a few but make them smart. Not gonna waste money on stupid gifts or junk. Can't afford to and no sense in it either.
Later on after David gets out of work I will be helping him button up his hen house. He's got maybe 8 or 10 chickens and he is freaking out that they might get to cold or freeze. So we will be covering the 'windows' and putting some plastic around it. He also needs to make the ? nesting shelf deeper so that they can't kick all the hay out so easily. YUCK, chickens!! The only chicken(s) I like are fried or bbq'ed. Nasty ditry things.
Jenny has got beans and side pork cooking in the crockpot for supper tonight. Tomorrow night I will be making what we call Roman Pie. It's kinda like a calzone. Usually make it with broccoli and two of them will have broccoli but for the other two I am gonna try fresh spinach. We got broccoli'd out at the Lodge. Have no idea really? But Ellen one of the owners at the Lodge must have a love affair with broccoli and green beans.
Dang, Kelly is all dressed, has her coat on and is ready to go out the door. Crap! She's nagging me, got to go!!!
Hope everyone has a great day. Hope ya all stay warm, cool, dry or snowy whichever is needed!!! Ya'll stay safe too.
Love to all

Carol, I really appreciate your very detailed blogs. In preparing for Baja, it was great to find out information about the tourist cards and especially that some Pemex stations now take credit cards. I'm not counting on that, but would provide just a little more $$$ cushion, just in case.

Morning,
Yep, good to hear from you Jenny! I assume you are back at your Casita. The wind has been crazy these past few days, but I'm not hearing it at the moment. It is 14* out there this morning, though!!!
Won't warm up til the weekend and then we might get our first taste of snow here at sea level. They are saying rain/snow mixed. Yuck, I just know it'll be freezing rain and I hate ice with a passion!!
Anyway, just ate breakfast. Diced peaches and cottage cheese. Thought I'd shake up my rut of eating oatmeal these past 6 months!
My scale this morning groaned, so I know I need to get back to better eating. Those meatball sandwiches/chips were just too good. Then add the cookies!
Yep, that will do it!
Ok, bowling for me at 9:30 then need shope to figure out one more present for my almost 10 yr old GD and a $10-15 gift for our bowling party/potluck next week.
Good to hear from you Carol!
Blessings everyone!

This bed just feels too nice and warm after all the wind and rain last night. Not a lot to do today, but do need to get going in a while. Made an appointment at the RV place here in town to get my home lubed and the oil changed, tires filled, etc. The place was recommended by a couple of people here at the campground, so will check it out. The rest of this week should be interesting.
I'm not going to tow the pickup into Baja, so it's going to rest for a while up at the Desert View Tower. Today I need to clean it out, decide what needs to go into the RV for Baja, what needs to go into my mom's storage shed in San Diego, and what stays in the pickup. Tomorrow I'll leave here and tow the pickup as far as a campground in Brawley, unhook, and set up the RV with electricity to keep the fridge going while I drive the pickup into San Diego for a few days. I'm sure I could just park it in a boondock place and run the fridge on propane. But, I hesitate to do that. On the way into San Diego, I'll stop over the border at Mexicali to get my tourist card for Baja. My mom and I will do something to celebrate our birthdays and Christmas. Then either Friday or Saturday, I'll say adios to her and drive the pickup to its temporary home at the Tower and meet a friend. We''ll spend some time doing some 4X desert exploring on the way back to my RV.
Sunday I'll take off for Yuma to meet Beth and Sparkle at Jennie's. And then Baja!
Hopefully no more rain today, so a chance to dry things like mats and chairs off a little.
I'm getting excited!

It is dry and chilly here...about 19* out this am. We have this current blast coming form the north. NO moisture in it. We might be getting some possible snow this weekend when the next system comes through. Last year we had this same cold blast but with snow...ended up with over a foot. Snowbound for days. Had a wonderful white Christmas.
Things are going well here.
Still waiting on the referral/authorization from the insurance so Kodie can get her Brain MRI. It is the next step with the growth hormone deficiency. They want to make sure there is nothing physically wrong with the pituitary gland..ie did it develop correctly, cysts, tumors, etc. I think that is the last step we have to go through...as long as it comes back normal..we will then be starting Growth Hormone Therapy...once all the piles of paperwork are submitted to the insurance and they have to also approve it. I don't think we will have any issues getting it approved as she meets all the criteria so far. There is a lot of hoops to get through on this one. First she had to be at less then 5% on the growth curve..she is..actually she has never really been on the curve. He bone age scan had to have a deviation of -2 and it did. Her GH had to come back under a peak of 10 or less. It did she was 1-9-2. Then her IGH-1 level had to less then 125 and is 106.
You all have a great day and keep warm...for those of us that are in the cold regions.

It's 15 degrees here, and icycles have formed on my kitchen window. I have about three to four inches of snow here, but the depths south of here are measured in FEET. I can finally break out my new (to me) Honda snowblower ... if for no other reason than to clear the sidewalks.
Have a good day, ladies!

Whew, I'm ready for a nap. My DH went out this morning and when he came back in one of the cats came in with a mouse. I had to get up a 6:00 and catch the mouse. I think it was a juvenile field mouse, too big for a regular mouse but not as big as the field mice get.
Since I was up I decided to make a double batch of chicken and sausage gumbo so we could have some in the freezer. I was in the kitchen all morning browning and sauteing and making potato salad.
It started raining yesterday afternoon and it rained hard all night. We got between 7 and 8 inches of rain. Part of our field still looks like a lake. With all the rain we have been having it might wash the salt out of the fields that came in with Ike. We couldn't plant rice until 3 years after Rita. We might be able to plant in 2010.

I'm ready to put the checkbook/Visa card/debit card away for a while. Had the RV lubed, etc. this morning and they highly recommended I replace the front tires ASAP. Still lots of tread, but quite a few cracks. The guy was amazed I hadn't had a blowout yet. Remembered I'd replaced all four back tires last year in Portland but the fronts were still good. So, down the street to their recommended tire place, Alex's Tires, and a couple of new tires. While waiting I walked next door to ACE and got a few necessities.
So, all's well and good now and my little rig is very happy with me. BTW, I recommend Mead Automotive and RV Repair in Blythe, as well as Alex's Tires, almost as much as I recommended Gene's RV Repair in Mesa, AZ. After some experiences (mostly crummy) with La Mesa RV in San Diego, where I bought the RV, it's so nice to find very honest people and excellent work as well as reasonable prices.
