Cold Sunday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Cold Sunday

Postby Colliemom » Sun Jan 19, 2025 7:55 am

A good Sunday morning to you all. Cold over quite a bit of the country today. Currently it is 8° with a real feel of around 1° or so. Wind is light at 5 mph with gusts to 11 mph. Barely any snowfall here. Sone areas are getting more. NWS said with this type of cold, it’s hard to produce much snow. Air is too dry. I know some of you are experiencing unusual cold for your area. Keep warm and keep heat up. Avoid wearing cotton if you can. It doesn’t Wickham moisture away from your body, so you feel cold.

Martha, I agree with you on the Walmart carts. They just stop anyplace to load whatever they are picking up with no regard to other shoppers around them. At least at Meijer where I shop, they try to keep them to the side. Judy, sounds like you got quite a bit accomplished inside your MH as did Barbie yesterday. Beth is giving g her friend the Grand Tour. Sheila, I paid $5.09 for a dozen Jumbo eggs this past week. We have no restrictions on how many we can buy and I’m not seeing anybody buying up a bunch. Most just getting a dozen.

I didn’t as much done as I wanted to yesterday, thanks to a jammed up paper shredder. The blades got all clogged up. Must have been some glue on something and when that happens, it compacts a layer of fine, glued shredded paper in the blades and they stop working :evil This particular shredder is all one piece with screws set deep down in holes and next to impossible to get out. So I use a knife and s rew driver blade and go meticulously down and across the paper insert groove and dig it all out a bit at a time, the which of took all afternoon. I need to get some blade oil. It’s working now. I don’t know what They are thinking when they design this stuff, but they could be more accessible. So today I will do what I didn’t get done yesterday. But first will watch Mass on TV as I am not going out in this cold. Plus the little fine snow can create slippery roads. Better to stay home and be safe.

So, time to end this before Mass starts. Have a nice day all. Stay safe and warm wherever you are.

Morning. It is a chilly one here for us too. Right now 28° and freezing fog. I have my scanner on but so far no accidents. I am sure they will be coming. I am just keeping my butt home. I dont need anything at the store so I am good to just kind of take the day off.

I made chicken with mushroom gravy in my crockpot yesterday and it was super good. Emma liked it LOL she of course didnt get any of the gravy or the mushrooms but the chicken was so moist and tender. I usually am not real happy with chicken breasts but I sliced these in thirds first, plopped them in the crockpot with the mushrooms, soup, and seasonings. Turned out good. I have some left for tonights dinner. Also have some leftover vegetable stir fry and seafood salad for lunch. So no work involved today in the kitchen anyway. Also have some smoked beef sausage to plop in the Air Fryer and some cabbage I need to eat up so tomorrow is covered also. I am trying to eat out of my fridge and freezer too.

Eggs were almost $6 dozen with a limit of 2. I found someone here I can buy farm fresh eggs from so might do that when these are gone. Beth is having fun showing Tom the scenic tour of her area. Barbie is busy nesting in her new home and Judy is like me, cleaning out drawers and cupboards. How a person that moved here 4 years ago with NOTHING has accumulated so much stuff is beyond me LOL I need to make a run to the donation center to get rid of some clothes that no longer fit me, or I dont like them. I have trouble with things that are cute but I never wear them so time to get rid of them. Also been going thru my electronics and cords. Also have a couple of antennas I bought that dont work very well so I bought new good ones a couple years ago. So might as well get rid of these too. Then I need to go thru my pots and pans and donate the old, unused or unlikeable LOL Sometimes that is hard to do BUT if I never use them what is the point of just storing them taking up space.

I am making blueberry pancakes and bacon this morning. I have a craving ha ha I looked all over town for blueberry pancake syrup and absolutely not one store had it. So enter good ole Amazon and I now have some good syrup delivered to my door ha ha Bought some frozen blueberries so have a cup full thawing now.

Time for a second cup of coffe and finish watching the depressing news.

Cold here in south Texas also. Not like up north but we'll be in the low 30's tonight and probably below freezing the next 2 nights. Tuesday our high is predicted at 37. But come next weekend our temps should be back towards normal, 70 or so. Just looked and it shows 65 for Friday and 75 for Saturday.

I took Tom to the airport this morning. Yay! Lol. Did all my laundry with both sets of sheets, towels and all my clothes so shouldn't have to do any during the even colder temps. Major cleaned the bathroom especially. Right now I'm wishing I didn't have one more walk with TY and I know it'll be worse the next couple nights. I will survive. I'm going to kindly ask him to pee right away and not need to poop the last time out these nights. Hope I get lucky lol

Karen, why not make your own blueberry syrup? I make blackberry syrup for crepes with frozen blackberries. Just put them in pan with sugar and boil. Then i use my immersion blender and grind them up, then add some cornstarch mixed with a little water to thicken it. (Or add more sugar.) It tastes a lot better than the stuff you buy that has corn syrup in it. For blueberries, you should add some lemon juice to brighten up the flavor. If you don't have an immersion blender, you can use a potato masher or something similar.

My son says his Australian Puppy loves the cold in Ohio. She is 4 months, I think, and weighs 30 pounds but she still has her thick puppy fur so she is plenty warm outside. They are still having a bit of a problem with her having an occasional accident inside and not coming when they call her, but she is getting better. I said carrying a bit of chicken in his pocket would get her to come faster! (A long time ago, I used bits of chicken to make friends with my other son's feral cat. Worked great--a lot better than regular cat treats!)

Been lazy today. I was waiting for the noisy teenagers in one family to leave this morning, but then realized tomorrow was Martin Luther King's birthday, so they no doubt have the day off of school! Darn. Normally, Sunday is my favorite day because campsites empty out. Will drive down to dump my tanks tomorrow and then go to the visitor center and maybe drive up the mountain where the Bighorn ewes hang out with their lambs. The rams usually hang out around the campground, but I suspect with all the big groups this weekend, they are staying away. By the way, it is going down to 31 tonight and up to only 47 tomorrow, so I am pretty much staying in and working on projects.

It is very dry around here, and I always worry about the animals, but i found out when i checked in that this huge (8 miles by 10 miles) state park has 7 wildlife guzzlers. These are rain catchment devices that store water and release it slowly, and are usually hidden from park visitors. WHen there are severe droughts the state park service will fill them with fire fighting helicopters, and I found out one is actually attached to a water faucet. Check out https://www.google.com/search?client=fi ... cQzI,st:74

And here is a site from the state of Nevada showing a guzzler being fill by a helicopter: https://www.ndow.org/blog/water-for-wildlife/

Karen, chicken with mushroom gravy sounds good. I had a chuck roast that I wanted to get out of the freezer so I browned it this morning and put it in the crockpot for 7 hours. I decided to make biscuits too. Since the oven was hot I baked a pound of bacon that was in the refrigerator. Made mashed potatoes when the roast was finally done. I shouldn't have to cook for several days.

I bought a dozen jumbo eggs at Walmart last week for $5.66. A few times there have been very few eggs but they never have limited the amount you could buy.

It's 36 now and suppose to get down to 26 in Lafayette. Hope we don't get that cold. They are predicting 18 for Wednesday and probably back in the 70's by the weekend. They can't make up their mind where it might snow. One day it is along the coast and the next day it above I-10. Our freezes are usually in February so hope we don't have more.

Judy, I'm glad you reminded me that it will be a holiday tomorrow. I was thinking about going to the bank.

My phone dings when the outside camera takes a picture. I heard it early this morning so looked and there was a gray cat on my porch. Not one of my cats, mine were in the house. I went out to see it. He was kind of skittish but I petted him a couple of times. He was on the back porch a little while ago. Just what I need, another cat. At least it's a boy.
