Last Day of September

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Last Day of September

Postby Colliemom » Mon Sep 30, 2024 8:21 am

Morning all. Another beautiful day on tap, but the end of the above normal temps is coming. Cold front arriving tomorrow along with some showers. Then highs in 60’s.

So today I’m going to finish up a couple little chores while the weather is warm. I got the shutters on back garage painted yesterday and and also did some minor scraping and priming of a few spots on my house foundation where the paint was peeling. Want to finish that today and reinstall the shutters, but first need to go get some paint as I discovered I was out of the color I used on the foundation. Thought I had some, but guess I used it up. Also need screws for the shutters.

Barbie, hope you get the hitch pin off. Irmi, hope you get through to your friends. Asheville is cut off from everything right now as every road into it is flooded or washed out. If there’s no power, they may not be able to charge their phones unless Thry have a battery pack or generator. But it is a worry when one has friends in dangerous situations. My friends who had to evacuate their campground were able to get back in or at least he was, later that evening to retrieve some things. At that time the water was beginning to recede. It had gone as high as the bottom of their camper, but looks like none got inside. They are going to wait a few days now until things dry out about so they can look underneath it and see if there is any damage or whatever. They disconnected propane and turned off the electricity before they’d left. But I am sure that the power boxes and other stuff may have been affected. She said so many people have lost everything. And loks like another storm may form in the Gulf later this week. Beth, good luck chomping up the food, Sharon, great job on the treadmill. Judy, enjoy your stay.

Guess I had better get moving here. Breakfast is in tummy, eggs and bacon Morning. Bought two pounds of my favorite bacon on sale the other day, so since I had to get it ready for freezer, had some for breakfast. I use same trick my dad did for freezing it. He used to divvy the package up into individual servings of three strips, wrap them in a piece of wax paper, then put them into double freezer bags. Then he just took out a serving and cooked it up when he wanted bacon.

So with breakfast done, dogs given theirs etc. I’m going to bid you a nice day and get off to town.

Good morning gals!

Still morning here at 11:45am. Been busy already today! I stopped at the Jeep place (they fixed my window) across the street from the U-Haul place at 8am this morning. The guy was able to break the lock off with a crow bar! So I got the U-Haul trailer hitched up and headed home. The gal who was supposed to help me, wasn't able to make it, but sent her sister over instead. She was a big help in loading the stuff that was in my porch. I paid her $20 since she did all the heavy lifting and it was already getting hot out. I then headed to the storage unit and took 4 loads with a flat cart out to the U-Haul. The trailer is definitely big enough, everything is packed 3 feet high from front to almost the back. There is room in the back for the last minute stuff and smaller things I still have here.

I am resting and cooling off now and having lunch. Will finish loading the smaller stuff in awhile and then finish cleaning the living room.

Tomorrow is supposed to get to 116* here! :o A record breaker for sure! And I will be leaving right in the middle of the hottest part of the day. I will let the car run with the AC on high for awhile before putting the cats in and heading out. If I am ready to leave before noon, I will call the Motel6 and see if they will have a room available before 3pm so I can get right in with the cats.

Yesterday, I made a little cardboard hood for my GPS since the original one broke. That way I can see the screen better.

So sad how many people lost so much from this hurricane. I think these major hurricanes will now be more the rule than the exception. They are even considering creating a Catagory 6, since the storms are getting stronger.

Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good afternoon. Electrician just left after installing my 2 ceiling fans. I love them. One in my bedroom (only had a light) and then took down the ugly brassy one with bulbs and replaced with modern LED fan and light in formal dining area. Looks great.
Going to have him install GFI switches in the bathrooms and kitchens. That is important. He does everything by code!!!! and I mean everything. Also going to replace the light in my kitchen dining with a more modern LED light instead of a globe light. Also changing out all my outdoor outlets to GFI's as that is the new code and since they have plastic boxes he wants metal boxes as they are safer. Sure glad I am not paying some electric company as I would be broke. He is very reasonable especially since he is studying for his Oregon license. He already has several referrals in our park. He is on time, cleans up after himself what more could I ask.

Barbie glad to hear you are all dialed in now with your Uhaul trailer. Hoping no issues on the road to home and it is smooth sailing. I think you have used up all your bad luck. Sue getting ready for winter. Sharon good for you fixing your treadmill. I am still harvesting in my garden so wont pull it up for a few weeks. I am not planning on restaining my deck this year, will have to wait until Spring to do that. I am planning on finishing my bathroom when the weather turns chillier. Altho it was only 42 when I got up this morning and now 77 with lots of sunshine. I must confess I turned my heat on for a bit to take the chill off. Only 61 in my house, that is way too cold for me. I still have a fairly long chore list. Need to clean my blinds and windows and will do that soon while the weather holds. I like to do the inside and outside at the same time so I can see anywhere I missed.

Garlic Butter shrimp over fetuccini was going to be for dinner with a small salad was my plan but think I will just have the salad tonite and that tomorrow as I had a good sandwich and Thai salad for lunch that I picked up at Fred Meyer (aka Kroger) So not very hungry.

Wimpy me has someone coming a week from Thursday to winterize my rv. I know where my low point connection is on my fresh water tank but it's really difficult to get to. I had to hold my bed up for the repair guy who fixed the tank a few years ago, so I'm happy to pay this time. A Tucson dealer has a good deal on doing it but iI got someone who was in the park today and so do it and I don't have to drive 45 plus miles each way. Sometimes I like to be self- sufficient and sometimes not.

Karen, you've got a great deal with the person doing!all the work. Yes, you want it done right so you're safe! I do not fool with electrical stuff like that.

Not doing much today. For the first time in a long time, my IBS kicked up in the middle of the night, so I was up for three hours, and finally fell asleep around 6 am, and then slept in very late. Went out for a walk and met a couple of my neighbors--just a handful of us today. When out walking, I noticed I am missing a hubcap on same wheel I replaced one about 3 months ago. Luckily, I have another one, but I want to make sure there is enough air in it before I put the hubcap on. I bought a set of 4 hubcaps in June because 4 is as cheap as 2, so just carrying around extra.

Going to be here for a while, so I put table cover on picnic table and then set up my portable weather station. It dropped to 41 last night, and I was a bit chilly, but had small heater on and used my down throw. I use a fairly thin cotton quilt for a blanket during the summer, but then toss on a small down throw when it is cold. But I really need to get my winter down comforter out and put it on tomorrow.

Going to post on my blog tonight about the New Mexico out-of-state camping pass. There have been several articles about NM raising prices after the first of the year, for daily rates and their annual camping passes. Their rates for state park electric sites are only $14 per night, which is about the cheapest anywhere, so I think they realized how under the normal rates theirs are. Daily rates are expected to more than double and camping passes will almost triple! I got my pass last month and started making reservations at some of my favorites before they raise rates.

Also chatted with a ranger as she drove by about problems with water. She said it had been fixed so I do not need the three gallons of bottled water I brought. I think I will tuck it away for a park with iffy water. We also talked about the campsites which were shut down because electric was broken, and she said electric setup was 57 years old!!! No wonder things don't work!!

Beth sometimes as we get older things get way more difficult and it really behooves us to just pay to get it done. Other things are just not in our wheelhouse. I dont mind paying for shall we say "value received". I do not do electricity either unless it is something really simple. Glad I did not try to tackle the 2 very loose outlets as they are conjoined with my outside outlets and apparently needed a metal box to be code AND a GFI. Not that I am worried about code but he says codes are for a reason. I have had him here for 7 days Not in a row he took Sunday off and Thursday Robin's son was in an accident so they left. This fellow is really reasonable and good to work with a "keeper" for sure. I have decided while I have him I am going to get a few more lights replaced. I dont care so much about the office and the guest room, those are fine. But kitchen, kitchen dining and entry are going to be replaced. I was going to wait a while and do it later BUT while I have him seems prudent. Hey it is only money and I cannot take it with me LOL LOL His girlfriend is a huge help to him and she knows every tool and screw to hand him and when. She does all the cleanup too. I really like her she is fun. Cute couple.

just before I got on tonight I thought is it the last day of the month think Sept has only 30 days but checked the calendar should have waited would have found out... need to remember RABBITS in less than an hour...
feel so bad for those in the hurricanes path.... it's just mind blogging the devastation and loss of life...
today was the nurse's visit... some days mom just really isn't with it and they have started asking questions like on a 0-10 10 being the worst... hate that type of question one was how is your well being?? or words close to that.... can't remember the rest of them... I'm sure it is to see how the patient's are doing emotionally but the phrasing is stilted and when it is a day when she is just not registering things.... not a good day for conversation
Karen it sounds like you got a gem of a electrician I would bet by now that mom's house is no longer under code... she had it brought in a year after dad died so 1974 and not much has been done to it since... kitchen redone fixtures replaced but doubt much more the rooms have wall paper not paint other than the "new room" it's painted don't know when it was built... want grandson to do a few things would like to have a motion light in the garage and on the outside of the garage along the path that the kid downstairs takes to get into the garage to get inside the house... if mom saw the light switch on she would turn it off which would turn off the motion light I hate coming in after dark and the lights from the door going up just don't stay on long enough... but getting him over here is like pulling what is that phrase?
Barbie sounds like it won't take you long tomorrow till you will be able to be on the road... do you have a fan to cool the back seat... I kept one on aimed at the back seat for shadow figured that even with A/C could never tell how it was in the backseat drive safe enjoy this new phase in your life...
sounds like a plan Judy for you son to fine tune the tv... enjoy your time where you are at and rest up from your IBS attack
Sue do you have your "kids" dressed for fall?
Beth I wouldn't say that you wimped out I never did find the plug to drain the water tank
you all have a great day

I went to my meetup tonight at Outback Steakhouse. I had the prime rib and a salad. It was good but something upset my stomach for a while. I brought half home.

Beth, I'm with you on the winterize. It could be bad if it's not done right. I have never had to really winterize so would want someone that knew what they were doing. Here I can run the heat in my motorhome for the few times we might have a freeze.

Karen, you can tell the difference in the work some people do. The last plumbing repair I had done was done by a master plumber. It was so much better than some of the ones that have showed up. He has a full time job at one of the plants in Lake Charles so can only get him sometimes. When we got this house I had ceiling fans put in two of the bedrooms and the living room. I wish I had put one in the bedroom I use for an office because I am in here more than anywhere else.

Barbie, glad you are ready to head out. Hope you and the cats make it without any problems.

I hope I can sleep tonight. I don't have much pain during the day but as soon as I lay down my shoulder and hip hurt and I have burning pain in my foot. I keep moving trying to fine a better position and sometimes change beds or get on the couch. I think the cortisone shot has worn off in my foot but I'm not signing up for another one of those.

Sheila, I bet your mother gets aggravated with the nurses asking her questions like that. I remembered Rabbits at 12:13 for a change.
