Damp Saturday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Damp Saturday

Postby Colliemom » Sat Aug 17, 2024 10:45 am

Thought I’d start Coffee. Before Morning is done here in the east. Those in the west and in between are just starting Into their day.

Everything damp and wet from early Morning (3:30 ish) heavy rain. Very brief thunderstorm along with it, but was moving fast. Rather mild 67° right now. Just came in from picking a long section of a skinny birch tree that fell from the top yesterday. I think the tree is rotting out. Only about 6-8 inches in diameter but tall. Won’t hurt anything if it falls, otber than maybe the fence, but I gave it a shake and it’s solid yet. So am leaving it alone for now. Lots of limbs and branches coming down anymore it seems. So many tree diseases happening.

That was too bad about the accident in the pass. If it’s the one that comes out in Jackson, was over it a few times while I was out there and it does require careful driving. In fact I found downshifting much better. Don’t want to burn out the brakes. When I left though, I went the longer way around rather than take the trailer over. Didn’t want that weight pushing me on the downgrade.

Barbie, glad you finally closed and can now proceed with moving on. Banks don’t cash large checks like that right away as they need to make sure the funds clear. So does take a few days. Escroshould have sent it directly to begin with. Shelia, roof won’t get done till next month probably. They have to order materials and get it into the schedule.

So not much doing around here today. Gave house and good vacuming and dusting yesterday, cleaned bathroom and kitchen this morning, so good to go. Got some papers filed and other things put away. So now all that’s left is to wrap up info executors ned to know.. Looks like a good DP day. Maybe a walk later if it doesn’t rain. But I have no complaint over next weeks weather.

Good morning Cloudy and heard a bit of thunder this morning. One was really loud and the next few in the distance. Now some patches of blue sky. I tell people I live in the "banana belt" storms usually go around us either north and south. See the example below. I am in Roseburg

Yup they go right around us. I would like some rain but the other stuff they can keep. High today predicted at 75 we shall see. Good day to finish my housekeeping chores so will wash the floors, vacuum, and clean the bathroom and kitchen counters. Undecided what to make for dinner tonight. Will finish my chinese food for lunch. Well I better start dusting too as I kind of forget that for a while.

HOT and muggy again today but cooler weather starts tomorrow for a week!! I hope they aren't wrong. We need rain so anyone with extra send it this way.

I'm happy Barbies nightmare is finally over. Sounds as though the people handling the transactions were totally incompetent.

We have several new neighbors as for some reason there is a large turn over in homes on our street. When we wanted to buy a house here we had to watch the obituaries for a very long time. Two homes near us have been bought by people from Southern CA who are related. I'm sure they were very happy to see the prices here in comparison to CA. The one across from us is a 4 bedroom, three level home with a double garage and it was priced 'as is' for $250,000. It is in good shape but they were remodeling a couple of bathrooms that they didn't finish.

Martha i don't know how you stand to be outside, much less mow in your heat! Good to see Anne and Karen are getting a little relief.

Cool here, but very damp after heavy rain a couple of days ago. My washcloth and towels are just not drying, so I had to put small electric heater in bathroom doorway! Towels finally dried, but I just put in a clean washcloth. Good thing I always but extra washcloths!! Hopefully, will do a couple loads of laundry tomorrow, although it is going to be a busy day.

Walked over to the historic fort today and spent about 4 hours walking around and watching the local tribes perform drumming and dancing. One little girl was so cute. She was about 3 and her dad was one of the drummers, so she kept walking around next to them and jumping up and down to the music. Periodically, her dad gave her some attention and even danced with her for a while. Finally, I guess she got tired and walked over to the bleachers that had been set up and sat down in an empty seat between a stranger couple. Finally, her mother noticed and went over and got her! Very independent little thing.

My rear end is really sore from sitting on bleachers and various benches. Seems like the older I get, the less padding I have back there, in spite of a lot of padding other places. One older man said he was going to bring his personal cushion around to events in the future!! Me too, I told him.

BJ, I probably do things in this heat I shouldn't be doing. About 4:00 this afternoon I went down to the pond with 2 gallons of roundup to spray the weeds in the pond. I haven't been keeping up with that and the weeds try to take over. I tried to fish but they weren't bitting. It was about 98 degrees but there was a breeze which helps a lot. I could hear thunder off to the East but it never did make it over to here.

I have a list of things I need from Walmart but didn't feel like going to town. I don't have any leftovers in the refrigerator and didn't feel like cooking something. I had a package of tuna salad for lunch with crackers. Not very good. For supper I had some chicken gumbo out of the freezer. I forgot I had the crawfish pies or I would have had one of those.

Luna is giving one of her toys a bath. I was looking at them and they really need to be washed. The tags says not to wash them but I think if I take out the noise maker I could wash them. One smells like one of the cats peed on it. Cats are a$$holes.

All summer I have only seen one Hummingbird coming to the feeder until recently. Now I see 3 fighting over the feeder. They waste a lot of energy fighting when they could just share.

I actually had a hummer on one side of the feeder and another on the other side for a nanosec don't know why they can't share but it rarely happens... even when they go for the natural plants still very territorial ... I need to see what hummers we have here one I recognize it has a bright throat the other saw more yellow on it but keep forgetting to look it up. Just looked it up we have 4 that can be seen here but none of them sounded like the ones I saw tonight might need to look at pictures of hummers see if I spot it... I had my phone but even though I had just filled the feeder and it was flying around it didn't hang out while I was there...
went to the store spent a lot of money more so than normal need to look at the receipt more but think it was weird stuff that added up ...
we have a pot luck on Tues... so went with the plan of getting fruit to make this salad as well as the greens for it then I saw the grapes were .99 per pound so thought of Pat's salad so got the grapes now I will either make both or have lots of something to try to eat... and just in case the cream cheese had gone bad got cream cheese as well ...
did compare the pattern for the 3-6 month and the 6 month to 12 was the same with just one round being different so easily switched over... hopefully it will fit some day
it was sunny today a bit warmer than yesterday then this evening it clouded over and was windy but not rain not even that chance of rain at 9 happened
heard the door bell ring looked out and it was niece and her youngest so said give me a moment went and unlocked the door mom locked the door last night when she does she locks the screen door if she hadn't they could have come in but no key to the screen door or one that we know where it is it wasn't working well but it got fixed which is too bad... when I lock the door I don't lock the screen door see no need to
one of my plants didn't benefit from the rains we have been having it was pretty dry
wow BJ that house sounds inexpensive I can see why they are being grabbed up
you all have a great day
