Memorial Day May 27

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Memorial Day May 27

We were really lucky last night and did not receive any damage from the severe storms that went through. Also our power stayed on but those on the west side of town weren’t so lucky. A tornado did do quite a bit of damage in a small town about 25 miles away. So far I have not heard of any deaths. On May 29, 1982 there was a tornado in a town about 20 miles away and my cousins daughter and her boyfriend were both killed. They had gone over for a brief visit to see his grandmother when the storm hit. They had just graduated from high school and my cousin had taken a picture of them in her living room. Later when she had the film developed one of the pictures had the perfect reflection of a tornado funnel right over their heads. I saw the picture and it was chilling.

Barbie have you thought that your mattress could be the cause of your sciatica or making it worse? This is one of the many answers I got when I googled, 'Could my mattress be causing my sciatica?"
"Much of the time it is caused by an irregularity of the spine. If you're sleeping on an old mattress or a mattress that doesn't work for your sleeping position and gives you the right pressure relief, this could further irritate or in a few cases cause sciatica.May 9, 2024". So a good mattress might be worth the $$.

We had an impromptu party yesterday afternoon for DH's birthday. Two of our friends came over and arrived around the same time. One had brought a cheese cake she had just baked and the other had a very good bottle of gin along with tonic water and limes. A good time was had by all adults. Dogs not so much especially Pippa.

BJ I'm glad you were lucky last night. I can't imagine seeing that picture after the fact. Yikes.

I should be at a lunch potluck starting a few minutes ago. I even have something to take. But I have quite a headache today so just ate something here and am relaxing.

Sheila, I watched and enjoyed the first couple episodes of White Collar yesterday and will be continuing. Thanks for mentioning it.

Good afternoon gals!

BJ, I only have issues with my sciatica if I am standing on my feet for 15 minutes or more. But I get lower back muscular pain on both sides that I think is caused by my saggy mattress. If I can find something like long cardboard pieces to put along the sides and end of an airbed, I will get one of those. I can control the firmness of an airbed. I sit up in bed a lot too, so that probably doesn't help much either. I do use a few pillows to prop me up but probably not enough support.

My computer crashed this morning and then I couldn't get back into anything because I couldn't remember any of my passwords so I had to reset all those (again! ). Then all my setting on my laptop had to be set back to where I wanted them.

I got a rejection letter from Unemployment :( but it is just for the time I was scheduled to be on my LOA (March 17th thru May 31st). So I need to find out if I will be able to get on it for after that time (June 1st, on). I guess I need to get up early tomorrow morning to be at the unemployment office to find out. I have been getting reminders to fill out my bi-weekly unemployment forms on-line which I have done.

BJ, glad you got missed by those storms! Those are so scary because you just don't know when and where they will hit and how much damage they will cause. The midwest and south are really getting slammed with those awful storms lately! They say the hurricane season will be worse this year too. I won't complain about the heat and dust here...

I am procrastinating today...I just need to get started on something here...
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good afternoon, been busy this morning. Changed my bed linen, had Henry vacuum the bedroom then went outside. Worked on my drip system I think it will be good to go tomorrow just a couple more things to do to it. Need to add a few more feet so I will be watering all my potted plants. Reorganized all my drip supplies now I think I can actually find something. Had the F-15's flyover go right over my house, dang those suckers are loud and fast Very cool tho. They actually made 2 passes here. Was a nice morning to work outside but by the time I was finished the sun was getting really hot and I had already taken a shower so didnt want to have to take another.
Not much else going on in my end of the world. Quiet Memorial Day as usual. I like quiet tho. Lots of traffic accidents today, guess people are anxious to get home. Just made my bed so think I am done for today. Shrimp kabobs on the agenda for tonight.

I have been reading posts but went with my son and family to Cedar Pointe yesterday. They have season passes because their weekend condo is only a mile or so from it. They also often cruise by the park and buy gas for their boat. Son bought the bought used about four years ago, and he is having same problem I have had with motorhome--just get one thing fixed and another breaks! Granddaughter went on a couple of roller coasters, but the rest of us just walked around. It was not very busy, considering this was a big weekend, and weather was perfect--about 74 with a wonderful cool breeze blowing off Lake Erie, so we had a good time.

My news is that the water heater that was leaking and I had fixed in Decatur at the factory service place, is now leaking again. The mechanic said it was OK, and only replaced a hose, but obviously, there is something else wrong. It only leaks when I have the water pump on and only when I drive or park on an angle. It is not a huge leak, but I have been using only my tanks and trying to remember to turn pump off unless I am using the water. Night before last, I forgot to turn it off and had a small puddle in my kitchen by morning. Was also parked with back higher than front that night, so water ran forward and got my rug slightly wet. So, I am calling the factory service place early in the morning. I was originally going to stay on the turnpike and head back east to the campground where i have reservations for tomorrow for two weeks. Instead, I drove west this morning and am staying one night at a different state park that is more on the way to Indiana. I am hoping they will say to come in on Wednesday when I call them tomorrow, so I did not want to drive back east 120 miles and then have to drive back west same distance plus another 110 miles to Decatur, IN!!

Oh, and did I mention a couple of days ago that my side steps are not deploying??? Cannot find the fuse and don't know if it is that or the motor has gone bad. Luckily, with a Class C, I can get in and out through the driver's door. Plus, last night, we had a big rain storm and when I went to heat up some leftovers, my microwave would not turn off unless I closed the door. When I opened door after closing it, microwave would turn on again. :? It seems to have fixed itself overnight, thankfully, and is only turning on when I hit one of the buttons!! :)

I need some chocolate!!

Yesterday I went to the hospice dinner and there were about 35 of us. The restaurant put us on a side screened room. It was a little warm to be outside. I was ok but some were complaining. They had some fans but should have had the big water coolers.

Sue, I don't think I know how to use all the new stuff on my new to me car. I really like the backup camera and warning someone is coming. I don't like when someone stops and the dash lights up with red lights and warning like I didn't see the car stop.

BJ, I'm glad the tornado missed you. I have a cousin that lives about 10 miles North of Valley View, TX where they keep showing the gas station that was hit by a tornado. They have a ranch about 3 miles West of Valley View but I don't know who is living at the ranch now if anyone.

Judy, sorry you have to go back to the shop. I had to replace my step motor last year. The last time the step wouldn't work was because I bent it. I think I hit a speed bump in a parking lot. I try to remember to turn the water off at the faucet if I'm going to be away from my motorhome for a long time at a campground. I have known people that had something break and flood their RV.

I was going to go put a flag at my son's grave but the people that take care of the cemetery had already put one. Harold's kids never put a head stone on their mother's grave. She is eligible for one from the military, all they have to do is apply for one. The people that take care of the cemetery probably don't know to put a flag on her grave. I don't know why that bothers me so much because it's none of my business.

I went and mowed this afternoon. It was 95 degrees but was partly cloudy. Part of the yard is in the shade so when it was too hot I would mow in the shade a while. The truck doesn't seem like it's running right again. I had it in the shop about a week ago and they change some oxygen sensor something or others. The service engine light had been on for years and they couldn't fix it. The light was off when I picked it up but when I started it this afternoon to come home the light was on again. I'll have to ask my neighbor to let me know when she is going to town so she can give me a ride home.

BJ glad all is well in your area... that would have been an eerie photo... I'm sure that when tornado's come close it brings a lot of memories...
Glad you are enjoying the series Beth.. you will have to tell me if he survives the gungho FBI agent with a gun on him... Hallmark Mysteries had a marathon of a show that usually is on the Hallmark channel... the Way Home... it's a series that shows for a few weeks during the winter some time traveler I've often wondered about it one of those that is very confusing if you don't see the whole thing... well I've not seen the whole thing ever... just ads for it tonight I saw 1 episode I'm going to have to text my sister and see what happens next... the mother and daughter jump into the pond (to time travel) they show the daughter coming up calling for mom no idea where she is then shows the mother getting out of the pond and shows a gun and the person holding the gun shoots it and she falls back into the pond.... then Murder She Wrote is on
that is to bad Judy that you have more issues or old ones repopping up... and Martha truck I'm sure both of you think again????
not done much today which is nothing new.... mom has been hearing the fan again but at least she didn't turn of my machine... been more awake this evening which is unusual
did sit here and write a couple of checks need to get them mailed tomorrow...
you all have a great day
