Good morning gals!

Didn't do much yesterday other than watch YouTube videos on different painting techniques.

The winds were ferocious yesterday! :o Were supposed to continue all day again today but so far just a little breezy out. Will be cool today so I think I will go out and put the trim back on the edges of the deck and put the furniture back up there after hosing off the deck first. I am thinking the trim will be a challenge to put back on, especially the wood pieces since they are partially rotten. Will see how that goes. If the winds don't return, I can finally paint that one last area.

I was really tired last night and went to bed by 10:30. Woke up at 7:30 this morning so had a pretty good nights sleep, other than waking up once with night sweats. Been having those lately. Not sure what is causing that. Only experienced those once before when I was pregnant.

Need to do some brushing and claw clipping on the cats. They are both due for that. I don't look forward to that since they both fight me on it.

Anxious to see the planting photos from our gardeners! My poor hybiscus is struggling. I really need to get it repotted in the bigger pot soon! It has produced a few yellow flowers already but it dries out so fast, especially from the winds. I have it on my deck now to shield it from the winds last night and today, if we have more coming. I have a neighbor down the street that has a huge hybiscus tree in her yard! It is beautiful! I didn't know they grew that big!

Have a good day!

Good morning. Just finished our morning walk. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with the Merlin app. I had about 15 birds in the 1st recording this morning then poof. I'm thinking it times out. Sandi? I'm going to start saving it occasionally and then starting a new recording. I was so excited to review all those birds! I did do another short one which I saved. So that's better than none.

No real plans for today. I will vacuum shortly. Did laundry yesterday. Plan to fix something with the rest of the green chile pork stew remaining for either lunch or dinner. That's fitting for Cinco de Mayo.

Barbie, we're supposed to get those winds today. We have a red alert for several hours. I haven't been turning my humidifier on but think today might be a good day for it. I show 25% in here right now. If I turn the ceiling fan on it and it both it goes way down, quickly.

Martha, I keep getting reports on the flooding in Texas but only tidbits about Louisiana. I hope you're okay and not getting the worst of this!!!

Beth, I hope I can help. They just updated the app in the last day or so, so it looks different to me. You shouldn’t have to go out of the app and then back in again. Let it record as you’re walking. When you’re done with your walk, save it down at the bottom of the screen. Should be a red circle. Once it saves, click individually on the far right of each bird listing that looks sort of like a horn. Below it should say “This is my bird.” Click on that. That should save that bird to your life list. Do that for each bird. I’m not sure you can do them all at the same time so to be sure save them individually.

I hope this helps. I apologize not being sure about it all. Just our luck they have just updated and it looks new to me too. Let me know if this doesn’t work and we can figure it out.

Thanks Sandi. I haven't even tried saving life birds yet. It was not saving my recordings. Seemed to shut off on its own then I couldn't save. Today I simply saved every 10 or so minutes and that worked for me. It's hard when I'm outside in bright sunlight because I can't see the screen well enough but that seemed to be doable. I guess now I need to save lifers. Good idea. I've been surprised at some of the birds that are here. But I don't think I've seen any I've never seen before. Yet.

I got back from my camping trip this afternoon. Luna woke me up at 7:00 so I was able to get packed up and on the road before it started raining. The rain started just as we got on the road and it rained all the way to Lafayette. I’m glad I got home and mostly unloaded before the wind started. I never did hear an official head count but there must have been close to 40 women. Our host went overboard with the decorations. We were at a campground at a casino so some went swimming, some to the casino and there were games going on at the club house. Saturday we dressed up with hats to watch the derby at the casino. We couldn’t bet on the race because they said it is a different gambling license. This is the second derby campout we have had and if we have another one we will camp near a race track and go to the track for the derby. I think we were about the only ones at the casino that even cared the derby was going on.

As usually we had too much good food. Thursday we had a baked potato bar with shredded beef or chicken and other toppings. I took my leftovers to the RV and had two more meals. Friday we had a pot luck and Saturday at noon we had chips, dips and appetizers before the race.

If anyone plans a Mississippi Cruise that is something I might be interested in too.

Beth, where are you ordering food from?

My GPS in so old it can’t be updated. It works ok on the highway but looses it’s mind in a town. I have looked at a new one but they are expensive. I know the roads in Louisiana pretty well. If I planned on going out of state a lot I would probably order one.

Beth, Louisiana has been getting a lot of rain but nothing like Texas. People are having to evacuate places in East Texas. Livingston is flooded. That’s where one of the Escapees campgrounds is located. We had a big thunder storm at the campground. I had my door open when the first big lightening strike happened and I was afraid Luna was going to take off. Lightening must have hit close to one camper and her power was out. The guy at the campground had to replace the breaker on the pole. Her surge protector was burnt and one prong of her cord. She had to go get a new 30 amp cord but the surge protector saved her trailer.

Sharon, I have been disappointed in the Mexican food I have had recently. The last time I ask for a cheese sauce instead of that yucky red sauce they all seem to be using now.

Sheila, sorry to hear your mother is in the hospital. Hope she is feeling better.

mom didn't come home today probably tomorrow wanted to do another test she had about 14 bm's during the night so they wanted to see if she had a GI something going on...but while I was there only went to the bathroom 1 times and didn't poop I know too much information  she ate more than I've seen her eat in quite awhile... my sister in law has apologized saying she didn't realize she was that sick I don't think she was I think she has been backed up for awhile and has just been getting rid of such a small amount that when the dam finally broke she can't stop... but that is my thoughts ... so will need to be more careful with how much she is drinking the think she was somewhat dehydrated even though she had excess fluid in her body... they say it's a balancing act... we are talking about hospice not that she is dying but to get the support and extra help... depending upon the hospice team... I wasn't overly helped when Larry was in it... but perhaps it was just me I expected something that I wasn't getting...
need to go and get my glasses fixed the nose piece came off somewhere somewhat irritating

Sheila, I really recommend hospice. They will come to her house and even pay for any prescriptions once she is in hospice. (My aunt was under hospice, and it meant extra care from nurses who focused on her). If your mother goes on hospice, they can help you with things like getting her to eat and drink, plus diagnose any problems. This will be big help to you and the rest of her family to get advice without taking her to the doctor.

I got a three mosquito bites on my upper chest today. Remembered i had been wearing v-neck shirt. Might as well have sent invitations out to mosquitoes. Not too smart of me. So none of those for a while.. Need to stick to crew necks until I get to cooler places. I had sprayed my legs but did not think about my neck and chest. Duh.

Martha, you may remember how much trouble I had getting chili rellenos anywhere last summer. Drove me crazy. When I finally got them this winter I paid more than ever before and they just weren't good. So I found a place that sells Hatch Chile products online and to a chance. You have to buy quantities to get good prices so I took a big chance and got, I think, 3 boxes of their chile rellenos. Original ones, cheese inside, and love them. Now I've bought other products, too. By getting 3 boxes, don't have to be all the same, things work out to about $5/item. And in a side dish, salad, and I have a meal. So far I'm pleased with everything I've tried. I'm getting this from the Hatch Green Chile store, https://www.hatch-green-chile.com/

Sheila, I was very pleased with hospice with my mom. That said, it was totally different than the hospice program my mother-in-law had, which was also good. But in both cases they had to evaluate and believe the patient would not live 6 months longer. My mom survived almost 4 years and was reevaluated every 6 months. In your case, if you can get any extra help, I'd go for it. It's possible that a nurse would give your mom her showers. I know you wouldn't mind giving up that duty!!!

There was something else I was planning on replying about but it's left me, so to bed I go.

Just getting into bed...

I stayed pretty busy today. I went out and started figuring out which trim piece went where on the deck edges. There are the metal trim and the wood trim. Finally figured out the metal trim goes on first and then the wood trim goes on covering the front of the deck edges and the bottom part of the metal trim. The nails for the metal trim were all rusted so I needed to get new ones and the screws for the wood trim, I didn't have enough of. So had to make a run to Home Depot. While there, I picked up a bag of potting soil for my Hybiscus. Also got a cute little flowering plant while there.

Came home and had a heck of a time getting the trim pieces to go where they lined up with the nail and screw holes. I discovered that the nail holes are too big (or maybe the wood is just too rotten) and they just fell out. Got the wood trim where I needed to until I got to the long piece that had broken in 2 places. My fix to glue them back together didn't work. Also the screw holes in the wood didn't all line up with the metal holes. So I need to drill holes into the metal where the holes need to be. Once I get all 3 pieces screwed in place, I will patch the places where the wood broke apart and repaint it. What a complicated mess! I ordered some more wood glue to use to hold everything together. Hoping that works, at least for awhile. I can't afford to replace the trim right now, so just need to make it work for now. At least I got most of it done enough to look good from the street so no one complains about it. Just need to clean up the patio and driveway with a broom and hose them off so that looks better too.

Then I repotted the Hybiscus plant into a larger container, and also the tiny flowering plant into a larger pot as well. Hope I can keep them both alive for awhile  . They are both on my deck in the sunny corner but protected from the wind. The winds got really strong off and on all afternoon and evening, so no painting got done. Seem to have calmed down now a bit so I opened my bedroom windows to let in the cool air.

My SIL was looking for a small Buddha statue to put in her rock garden and I actually have 2 different ones and a little pagoda. So I took a photo of them and sent it to her asking if she wants them and I will send them to her. She said to hang on to them because she and David are thinking of taking a road trip out here to visit me, and then David's son and DIL in Burbank. She will check them out when they get here and see if they will work for her. So now I really need to get the house clean again! They have never been here before so I want it to look really nice.

Tomorrow I need to make a few phone calls in the morning and then work on some projects.

The wind is picking up again so I better close the windows so I don't get dust blowing in here.

Sheila, I hope your mom is OK and can get the help she needs.

Martha, I wish I could go with you to your campouts. Sounds like a lot of fun and great food! Livingston, TX is where the Escapees headquarters is located.

Good night...

I have spent a big part of the morning trying to install the Merlin bird app. I was ready to throw my phone in the trash and pull my hair out but I got it. Now to try and figure out how to use it but that is certainly going to wait for another day! Of course it was probably my fault as I haven't installed the updates on my phone so....it is updated now. Before that I was trying to respond to a summons to be a juror at the US district court about 35 miles from where I live. So in trying to fill out the form where it ask for your phone number it only lets you put in 9 numbers instead of 10 so of course I can't complete the questions. It does say if they don't hear from me in 10 days they will send a paper copy. I'm sure my age will be enough to be excused and if not does anyone still have our 'bail fund"?

Why would they only allow 9 digits for your phone number?? :? They are all 10 digits. That is so weird!
