TGIF

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

TGIF

Postby SoCalGalcas » Fri Oct 27, 2023 11:37 am

Good Morning, cool here this morning. Sun will be out about in about an hour, then it will warm up. Still feeling a little tired. Not as bad as a few days ago.
Watched the soccer game last night. United States missed a couple of kicks so score ended 0/0.
Just realized my daughter has Netflix, so paying attention to available movies. So far nothing I’ve seen sounds interesting/good.
I am surrounded by restaurants. I don’t eat out very often as they are expensive. Today though I’m wanting a good sandwich. Now to decide where to buy it.
I can get two meals from a sandwich so that cuts the cost.

Good morning! Lyn, so happy to have you posting! We visited my husband's grandmother in North Carolina one year and she had not been doing well. A few years later, she was dressed to the nines and we took her out to lunch! They had finally reevaluated her medications!

Sheila, you nailed it with 'frying pan into the fire'! I'm happy to be out of the last place, but this wasn't in the plan. I doubt there will be a move next year - nowhere to go! My mind is working on a solution which will include downsizing again! There have been some rentals advertised in the middle of orchards that sound nice.

Hoping to get my act together and get rid of the summer's worth of recycling and a trip to the grocery store today. Never did get the vacuum out yesterday. After posting on here, I decided to do a little genealogy research and that was that!

Good morning Lyn! Glad you are doing a little better now.

I rarely watch TV, so all those extra channels and streaming devices probably wouldn't do much for me either. I now have extended cable with the sports channels and the only new thing I have found to watch is golf.

I also get at least two meals from eating out at restaurants. So that does cut the cost down when I eat out, which isn't too often.

Still feeling a little off yet. My head is still congested and ears plugged up and ringing a lot. No pain so don't think I have an ear infection. I usually get a sinus infection when I get a cold but so far, no sign of that.

I do think I have a major panic attack about to happen soon! We have a new girl starting at work. She is fresh out of beauty school so she has very little actual experience cutting hair. I discovered I am working with her (just me and her) on Sunday! That is one of our busiest days! She also has no experience working on our computer system to check clients in and out. So that means I will be helping her with all her haircuts, training her on the computer all day and not being able to take care of my own customers as I keep having to leave them to help her with everything. Meanwhile we will have a 2 hour wait of customers in the lobby! So that is a great recipe for an emotional disaster for me!! I plan to call and talk to the old manager (or maybe the General Mngr) today about this and tell her we need another person there that day. The new manager is super nice but doesn't seem to get things taken care of. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper right now!

My agent stopped in at work yesterday and told me he has a Canadian couple coming down here from Canada next week looking for a place to buy and wants to see my place. So we will see...

Not sure what I will do today but will figure it out once I get up and dressed. Have a few small projects that need to get worked on around here. Also need to call the guy about my mini-split fix, since I haven't heard back from him yet.

85* and sunny today. Good day to get outside.

Lyn, I rarely eat out, but discovered the hot subs at Jersey Mike's this summer (I had a coupon for a free one) and while I'm not big on cold subs, I loved the hot one enough that I've gone back. And, yes, I get two meals from it.

Nothing exciting happening today. Anita, I'd love it in the orchard. Good luck with whatever you decide. I'm still going back and forth with my future plans. It's tough to find a place that I think will work without compromising myself too much

It is very cold here right now, Was only 27 when I got up. We are now a whopping 44 and it is 1:30 Guess I will go out later and turn off my outside faucets and put the insulated covers on them. I am dressed like Nanook of the North, I have my long underwear on, heavy sweatshirt, and heavy socks. Went to the store and it was very busy which is unusual for a morning to be that busy. Winco discount grocery store opens in about 10 days, so excited, one of my favorite old haunts from my old house. That will help with some competition. Dropped off a bag of stuff from my neighbor and myself to the donation center on my way. So that is done. Had a bowl of Tortellini chicken soup for lunch, hit the spot. Making vegetable stir fry for dinner, havent had that in a while. Sliced up the rest of my meatloaf and will freeze it for do ahead meals and sandwiches.
Got to watch the local news this morning for a half hour while I had some coffee and breakfast. So I am winning with the one tv. Havent even checked out the other one yet to see what is up with it. I really dont care, just had an extra antenna and thought I would use it. Oh well.
Lyn do you still have your pup??? So glad you are feeling better Always good to see you post. Even if it is just a little one. :D
Beth, I love Jersey Mikes. I like their hot and cold sandwiches. We dont have one here  but every time I go to Medford I either think about them or grab a sandwich. We have a Jimmy Johns and Subway. Not a real fan of Subway usually and I dont like Jimmy Johns so there ya have it. I make my own sandwiches.
Anita so sorry you are not living in tranquility. Nothing like Peace at home. Barbie that sounds like a recipe for disaster for sure. I know everyone needs to learn and be taught but she should be preceptored by an experienced person from the shop. What would they do if you called in sick LOL

I am now snuggled under my heated throw with a hot mocha.

I woke up at 3:30 with my knee and shoulder hurting so decided to take an Aleve PM. This time I only took one and didn't wake up until 9:30. I'm surprised the cats let me sleep that long. The outside cats that I'm making come in at night usually want out at the crack of dawn.

Last week I bought some buttermilk and couldn't remember what I wanted to make with it. This morning I decided to make a buttermilk pie and buttermilk biscuits. The buttermilk pie recipe was my aunt's. The biscuits turned out good. Usually my biscuits are not very good.

I can usually get two meals out of just about anything I buy. The plate lunches at the deli are sold by the pound and I can get two or three meals from one of them. They are usually around $10 and the seafood is a little more expensive. We have Subway and Jimmy Johns. I have never tried anything from Jimmy Johns and Subway is too much bread for me. We have a lot of restaurants that sell Poboy's. I like the hamburger I make better than most I can buy.

This morning It rained lightly for about 10 minutes and has been overcast all day. I can't get the radar to work on the weather channel to see if there is any more rain in the area. It's suppose to be in the 40's with possible rain Halloween Night. Almost no rain for a month and it rains for Halloween.. Peggy, did the hurricane hit near where you go in Mexico?

My knee is doing a lot better tonight, but it is still sore. I went to the nearby town of Fernandina Beach, walked around a while, and then went into a nice bayside restaurant and treated myself to a whitefish sandwich and fries. Expensive, but good view of the harbor and boats, and I hardly ever eat out these days. I walked slowly and carefully, making sure I did not fall again. But now my shoulders and neck are sore from falling. Tomorrow should be a lot better.

Anyway, while I was gone I missed out on a lot of excitement. First, there was another submarine that returned in the early morning and one that left in the afternoon. These always involve a lot of military helicopters and a serious Coast Guard escort, plus police patrolling the beach looking for terrorists. Cannot believe how BIG those nuclear subs are!!! And then, as I was leaving about 11:30 am, i noticed a fire truck and emergency services vehicle, so I thought it was someone who maybe had a heart attack. Instead, it was a boat that had caught on fire early in the morning. They got the people out and put the fire out, but after it floated to shore, the fire started up again. Apparently, fiberglass burns well, so they ended up having to dump a bunch of sand on it to get the fire out permanently! One lady is going to send me a video of the second fire.

I like Jimmy Johns, but I will have to try Jersey Mikes.

Well, I decided to go get my haircut from my old manager at her shop. Had to wait quite awhile since she had a lot of requests ahead of me. She always does a really good job on my hair but today she really didn't! It was a lot longer on one side than the other and not even. I just got done recutting it in my bathroom. It looks better but I might have my new manager go thru it next week and see if I got all the long stuff cut right. And she charged me $10 for it. GC's employees get free haircuts so I asked her if I get the employee "discount" and she just shrugged her shoulders and said "$10". After waiting an hour past my scheduled haircut time, that didn't make me too happy either.

My car is also not running right. It is doing the same thing it did last year with turning over but not catching. I turn it off and try again and it starts right up. I think last time it was a fuel pump or something like that. I would think those should last more than a year especially considering how expensive they are! :o I will check with the place that fixed it before and see if they have a warranty or something so I can get it replaced again.

I think I need a vacation! Just not a happy camper today. :( Still need to call someone about Sunday's work situation. (Now the dogs across the street are barking! Yikes!)

I quit going to Subway when one of the shops out here found maggots in their food! And then it turns out their "tuna" was not real tuna. In fact, the food inspectors couldn't figure out what it was but it wasn't even any kind of fish at all. And that was in all their shops, not just one out here. So no more going their for me!

Maybe tomorrow will be better...

Interesting reading about Subways. I have never cared for them too much - like Martha said, too much bread. But I thought it was just me, plus my local Subway is none to clean.

I can get a good sandwich at the local grocery store that has a deli counter. I do that sometimes, but not too often.

Barbie, when I had to have my starter motor replaced, it was a lot like that. It would refuse to start, but then later in the day it would start. One time. the road service guy got it to start by reaching up somehow from underneath while I was turning the key. I was told that sometimes the motor has a dead spot and it will depend on where it is when it is turned off as to how easy it is to start.

So, before you replace the fuel pump a second time, check on the warranty and see if it is the starter motor.

yes it is chilly here as well looked at the temp on the computer and it says 20 the phone said 23 I think... think I will close the drapes tonight it might feel warmer that way and then next week put the flannel sheets on...
Anita maybe you can find a place to put a tiny home on  they have from prices I've seen gotten really expensive as everything else has...
Barbie hopefully you got your Sunday work issues worked out some times I don't think they think things through.... an inexperienced person on a busy day with only one other person isn't fair to anyone....
maybe they tried Martha and didn't succeed :o I put snooze on and didn't hear it dd called just after 11 and woke me up... she just doesn't get it how can you sleep that late... well it actually wasn't hard...
I haven't had a sub in a long time sometimes they sound good but then I rethink it ...probably because I would want something different than mom would want or I would think of the money wasted if I give her part of one and she doesn't eat it...
today I went to the store... fixed BLT's for supper had avocado on mine mom ate hers separate... didn't do much else cause I over slept big time....
you all have a good day

OK, 2 more issues and then I am done complaining for today (one hour left til midnight :o )!

Yesterday I opened the fridge and found one shelf full of water (shelf has a small lip on the edges). Top shelf was dry, lower shelf was dry, so it was something on that shelf. I just bought a water filter container that has a spigot in the front, for the fridge. I filled it yesterday and the level was almost halfway down when I found the water on the shelf. I know the spigot wasn't leaking because it hangs over the edge of the shelf and there would have been water on the bottom of the fridge, not on that shelf. I took the container out and put it in the sink. Well, the water level hasn't changed at all since then. I haven't checked under it to see if there is a crack yet, but the water had to come from that container somehow. So odd!!!

Romeow likes to jump up on the counter and then on the top of the fridge to get to the top of the upper cabinets where he likes to hang out. Well, sometimes he accidentally knocks open the freezer door. Tonight I went out to the kitchen and found the door open again. Must have been open quite awhile because my ice cream was getting soupy. I need to find a way to keep the door from opening by Romeow stepping on it. I checked on Amazon for fridge door locks but they all use sticky stuff to stick them on there. I need something easily removable (like magnets) so I can take it off when showing the house. For now I just put some clear packing tape on the door but can't keep doing that all the time either. Any ideas?
Not sure how I can keep Romeow from getting up there either.

Judy, my car is a 2009. There are no warranties on anything on that car now.

I called my current manager and told her about my concerns. She said she will make sure to get someone else to work with us on Sunday.

Barbie, I meant check the warranty on the fuel pump you put on. I can’t remember how long ago it was but should at least be a year.

Judy I hope you and Martha are soon on the mend! Sheila, I think you have your days and nights mixed up :) I never eat at fast food places. I think anyone who has ever worked in a restaurant of any kind doesn't eat out much.

Barbie I Google your problem with your car :). and it said the problem could be a weak fuel pump, leaking fuel injectors, worn starter, weak battery, or faulty temperature sensor. Sorry you got a bad haircut and that they charged you. I've cut my hair for years but it's a little past collar length in the back so easier than if I had it short.

Yes, that is what I plan to do. It was replaced last November 30th, so just under a year ago. Will check with them next week.
The only problem with that idea is that I believe they told me it would be less expensive to put in a used, refurbished fuel pump and I said that was fine because I would be selling the car soon anyways so it didn't matter (thinking I would sell the house soon and sell my car before I moved  ). If that is the case, then there will be no warranty. Will check with them and see...
